Got some some time off for being under 18 when he committed the offences, plus some more for his guilty plea.
Well, he'll be (theoretically) 70 before he can be considered for parole, and I doubt he'll make it to 70.
I think most of them never really do. I’m convinced i would be one of those parents who could never get past or through it.

There's not a chance he will be paroled even if he makes it to 70. He will die in prison one way or another.

For U18's the usual life sentence length starts at is 12 years so this is a lot more than usual
In reality he's unlikely to ever get out, even if no one does for him inside the chances of him getting released is in the hands of a politician and I don't see any politician who wishes to remain one ever signing off on it

Yes it is in the Sentencing Act. It does depend on when you plead guilty, and it can be offset by aggravating factors. I'll have a read of the sentencing remarks to see what impact it had.

The thing is, nothing that's around that we know of is enough of a punishment for him.
I was quite surprised by how long the minimum was. I don't think I've ever seen one that's over 50 years. I guess that's got more to do with anyone who would be eligible for such a sentence would be given a whole life term instead and he can't be because of his age. There probably aren't many under 18s who have committed a crime that would usually have merited a whole life sentence .
It would be a real shame if something happened to him in prison.
