Solskjaer target 5 signings; 6 players could leave [BBC, Telegraph, Guardian]

Never a better time to get a british core in the team; the current crop coming through look quality

We need more than 5 imo especially if we ship out 6 unless he believes in Mason, Chong etc.

I agree that the squad as a whole needs more, but it seems like the targeted players will be slotting straight into the first team. It would be dangerous to try to fit more than that in one go I think. Most important thing is improving the quality of the first team, and then improve the squad players from there.

It's very predictable now. After every defeat we see briefings about transfers or DoF. Seems like it's our club's strategy to weather the storm.

As Liverpool and City and all the big boys in Europe find and develop fullbacks who can play in attack and put a mean cross in, you mean to tell me we're going to go the opposite way and throw out two defensive fullbacks?
City fullbacks doesn't cross. Apart from Mendy who doesn't play. In the top teams it's only Liverpool that's dependant on fullbacks end product in attack.

Surely nobody falls for it though. He does this every summer.
I think we all fall for it even though we know better.

'maybe this year he means it'

If we can agree to sign just not register players before window I hope they are already basically done..not all of course but maybe one or two. Unless we have to wait until they know if we are top 4 or not before wanting to join us.

My inner muppet has been burned too many times in transfer windows so I hope we see some quick movement come end of May.

Shout from the rooftop Eddy, it's going to help you gain leverage in negotiations.

You are already setting yourself up for dissapointment. May? Never! Maybe one by July at best.

Just curious as to why the likes of Bayern and Real have already announced future signings. Is it just that they are simply better run than us!?

Ole in presser saying agents have been in contact already about their clients wanting to join us. Obviously clubs have final say but that to me is clear players want to sign so we should have no excuse not to get some of them if Ole feels the same.

on top of £150m transfer budget we get each season, we spent only 50 last season. So we better be spending £250m + player sales money. We need a total reset.

I can guarantee there are tons of fans out there with less understanding of Ed and the Glazers who have brought their kleenex out of their cabins and pulled their shorts down already. Meanwhile we who are familiar with this charade have gotten sick of it long ago. Although these recent briefings have been outright idiotic. You have to be a very special creature to name your targets out in public like this. And then on top of that boast about how much money there is available.:wenger:

Just look at who and where they play.

Guaranteed UCL football season after season, access to the best players in the league etc.

Of course so you'd think a struggling team like ours will be working even harder now to obtain targets and have fees agreed so new players join us at beginning of our pre season. Maybe we look at lesser players but that should still give us a shit load of options better than half our current squad.
Im trying to look for a positive in a negative so to speak.

I think we'll keep De Gea and Pogba and bring in three or four at a maximum. I think a CB, RB, a midfielder and perhaps Sancho at a huge price. Not sure we'll get Kouilably and certain it won't be Varane. I'm thinking more Alderweireld or even Maguire. RB Wan Bisakka sounds about right and for midfield I can see those Fernandes links being legit. I think we'll more than likely leave Rice for next summer.

Oh look, a positive story after we lose a game. Absolute nonsense. We'll sign 3-4 players at most. The only players leaving will be those running down the contract. I can't even be sure Darmian will leave.

I don't believe the leak for a second. Woodward has used the press to lie to fans plenty of times before.

If we don't get the players this summer, we'd be in serious danger of facing 5 years in Arsenal land, as our few good players like Pogba and De Gea run down their contracts with no prospect of us extracting any value out of them.

I will believe it when I see it. And there's the little matter of everything hinging on CL qualification as some of these rumored targets won't want to play in the Europa League. So let's talk about this once the season's over.

haven't we basically already been doing that since Fergie left.

Sancho, Felix and Wan Bissaka would add so much youth, dynamism and potential to our squad. We forget that Rashford, Martial and Shaw are still very young and regarded as some of the top young talents in football so having six or seven players in that bracket leaves us a lot of room to grow should they all stay together.

Might help season ticket renewals. Which is what this is probably intended for

Are things that bad there? All I heard of late was how people had to get on a waiting list now to become season ticket holders years later.

Smalling and Jones need to go. Young as well. Herrera and Mata is fair enough. Darmian, Valencia, Rojo, Sanchez are obvious.

The first 3 will end up remaining and we won’t buy the 5-6 players we need though. Haven’t got any trust in that utter baffoon Woodward.

We should be getting players in now to boost the club’s morale. Instead there’s more talk about people leaving than solid reports of any incoming ones. Surely there’s a whole load of players who could improve the squad...

We spend ~150m most summers I feel like. Last summer we only spent like 80m or so (but as Mourinho put it in January, Sanchez was effectively a planned summer signing on those massive wages just pulled to January) so it's basically the same thing. The thing we havent been doing is the big clear out of the mediocrity eating up wages for no reason or just being ruthless and cutting when we know we have to replace.

Every manager has been backed though, especially at the start. Van Gaal made loads of signings, they just didnt work. Mourinho signed Bailly, Ibrahimovic, Mkhitaryan and Pogba in his first summer which is a crazy window when you really look at it.

Not going to get excited yet. We always have grand plans but usually fall short. I think we'll make one big signing (possibly Sancho) and a couple other decent signings, and sell a few players. We'll struggle to get rid of Sanchez due to his wage.

How do we get in players 4 days into April? :wenger:

I don’t believe it until I see it, but it definitely sounds muppetlicious.

Bring Wan Bisaka, Varane, Saul Niguez and Sancho and it will be a great transfer windows.

I'm a fan of the British core stuff if it's about the current 18 year olds like Sancho and Hudson Odoi. It's a really talented generation. Probably the only time I'll say that tbh.

Sancho yes, but not yet, needs more time IMO, the rest I don't rate, especially any of the midfielders, where we've produced in recent times has been the forward line without question.

If we can sign Hudson-Odoi then I think that would be huge - he is destined to go to the very top IMO.

I think Rice and AWB are good players but not really what we need, especially Rice. Rice spent a lot of his youth days playing in defence and it seems clear to me like he's more of a defender playing in midfield, I think we need a bit more creativity/ability on the ball for a CM signing. AWB looks a great defender but isn't going to offer a great deal going forward which most top teams need - wouldn't be the worst signing for a reasonable fee mind you

Up to me, I'd clear half the squad or more.
I'd include Young, Jones Smalling, Matic, Bailly among others. Know it sounds daft but some of these players have been here for ages and at best have been proven to be okay players. We need a rejig, sink or swim.
Just look at a list of our five most experienced players, who have been here the longest. Apart from Dave, not one has been world class at any point in his career at this club. Time to be ruthless.

I have a feeling we already have deals in place for some of the players mentioned.

Thats the only thing that makes sense to me, why talk about specific targets unless they are pretty much signed?
This transfer window is make or break for Woodward, there are zero excuses for failure.

True that bedding in so many new players at once may create problems, but any new player changing clubs needs time to adjust so doing a wholesale kind of squad renewal might create problems right away, it does bear fruit down the road when those players have adjusted. Also, that bolded is relevant. Is it better to ship the deadwood out en masse or spread it out over 2-3 transfer windows?

Personally i would prefer the former, a cataclysmic summer where most, if not all the sub par wage thieves are shipped off and we bring in a lot of fresh faces.

I dont think man utd fans will like to hear this but there is lot man utd can learn from liverpool because man utd us facing the sane problem klopp was facing. Klopp was also hired mid season like ole. Had lot of dead wood left from previous three managers. Club was paying too much to the average players.

With 6 months or so at helm, klopp had good idea of his squad, i am sure ole know his players his well now. A mass exodus will help utd because utd wont fetch much in transfer fees from transfers of these players but the price of incoming players is surely going to be very high. An average player in today's market costs close to 50-60 millions. So even if you guys want to buy 4 players it will cost you 200-250 millions. Even with all the resources you guys have, thats a lot of money considering how much miney you paying to your top earners.

I don't always think Ed thinks these things through.

I don't care who we sign, if we don't go after Sancho then this transfer will be another waste. We've spent the last 5 years going after players like Bailly, Matic etc but we never actually sign any top attacking wide players, which is something that all other top teams have but we don't.

The problem with being the boy that cries wolf ed is eventually everybody stops falling for the bullshit.

You'd think so but I have 0 faith in Woodward and co.

Can he really be that stupid? You dont go screaming to the world if you are after someone, thats just silly and 7 year old child would even know it.

BBC reporting it too. There might be something to this or Eddyboy is really that stupid.
