Solskjaer target 5 signings; 6 players could leave [BBC, Telegraph, Guardian]

That is correct, i just watch United, and a few big CL matches, his reputation and that he seemingly wanted to come back, did it for me.

The fact that you lot focus on the Pogba bit from my post, instead of the main point of it, just to argue and be dicks, is why myself and many others prefer general instead of the football forum these days.
I'm only focusing on that as you were clearly expecting some sort of Messi like performances, which was just never going to happen.

People get upset and disappointed when he isn't acting like Roy of the Rovers. I'm not being a dick.. yet :D

Nah, i never expected that, but i thought his performances would be more stable than they have been.

We will not be the only ones competing for those players and even if we were, other clubs will be spending as much if not more then we will. The difference is they have experts while we,'ve got the Cardiff boy and the scouts of 3 failed administrations
At this point I don't trust anyone running the club so all I've got is hope that somehow they'll make bad decisions that somehow will end up working.

We at Redcafe are such an entitled bunch. Keep faith in your manager, allow him to build his team, and then give him some time to show results. As we did with Ferguson. Changing players every year and the Manager every alternate year isn't going to solve our problems. Building a team is the key - a team that will never give up, and fight for every inch. Chasing after the flavour of the month is no solution at all.

You say that. Then next season ole will lose to much and want him sacked, repeat again, again. It's all well and good if your fighting and keeping the faith, Liverpool are also doing that and yet they've won nothing(fingers cross). Yet they are getting impatient. Buying the right players just isn't possible. Look at our own squad. It's NOT bad, there's plenty of players at united that can put on a great performance, but they stay and have no idea what to do. It's too unpredictable these days to tell who's good and united own strikers are getting too greedy because it's been too long since they've scored. I'm not entitled but what matters is winning trophies. That's the only thing in football that really matters.

Actually our player's turnover borders to the ridiculous. Jones, Smalling, Young, Shaw, Darmian, lingard, Rojo and Co are clear examples of players who stayed here despite barely ever showing any reason to do so. Bailly is heading in his 3rd year despite giving us a handful of decent games. Valencia and young haven't been decent for years now. We keep players that are not good enough for years and that's because we are shit on the transfer market. That encourages and attracts complacency as players know that they can come at United, not do their job and still get away with it. 4 signings a year might be good to keep a top squad fresh not under such circumstances

We keep mumbling about the United way. Well in 1988 and 1989 Sir Alex brought 11 players at a time when squads were made of 16 players. That is how you ta kle a squad with poor attitude. Transfers aren't just about players bought. It also keeps the current players on their toes as 1 game might be enough for them to lose their job What sort of message do you think we are giving to our players when someone like Jones get a new 4+1 contract??

I think having Ole at the helms will give a clear indication how much the Glazers are willing to invest in success. For once, the fans are completely on the manager's side and anything but minimum 5 top quality signings regardless of departures could potentially turn the fans against Woodward and the owners. This would be the best summer in recent memory, i feel.

I think we are way past that point, mate. I have completely lost trust in Woodward and the owners since last summer. And I feel many share the same feeling as me. We have already made up our minds about them.

Let’s say 200m only is provided. And I assume 5 signings if we still keep DDG & Pogba.
6 players + Valencia (already been confirmed before so I exclude him in the 6 list) leaving: Herrera, Mata, Pereira contract expired, Lukaku sold, Darmian sold & Rojo sold.

This is what I can see,

Rabiot to replace Herrera for free.
Bissaka for 40m.
De Ligt or a centre back for 90m I assume.
We will sign 2 attackers with the rest of 70m, Lukaku, Darmian & Rojo money.
And another season with Matic as our DM, Ole seems to favourites him.

I think it’s very possible. And if we are lucky enough, I hope we can increase that 6 players leaving which include Jones & Sanchez as well. Getting rid an injury prone plus a player with ridiculous wages will be a good sign of the club’s structure in the future.

Top quality signings are hard enough to make when everything is perfect, but with no change to who is negotiating the transfers, a unproven manager, and probably no CL , then it's going to be close to impossible to get 'top quality' this summer, let alone five of them, sad fact is we've slipped down the pecking order atm.

Personally I've no issue with Ole going for driven/hungry players, either on the way up, or with a point to prove, if we start to sign players like Icaradi, Kroos, Bale, etc, or waste months chasing shadows for fashionable players we are never likely to get, then we're just not learning.

Except for David Moyes first summer when did we chase fashionable players? Just incase I missed the other summers.

I think top quality players are available in abundance, especially with the wages we are offering. Just look at the signings made by Liverpool, Leceister, City, Spurs, A.Madrid post SAF era. No more excuses this summer. 3 shit managers and finally one of our own.

Not quite what I said now is it, there's a lot of talk about Felix, Sancho, De Ligt, or Varane, Icaradi, Bale, etc, all players that are unlikely to join us atm, or ones we should be avoiding.

My point was that I want to see us go for 'driven' realistic targets, and ones that we can get in quickly, plus other than Lukaku makes sure all our would be top players stay put, it's just where we are at the moment.

I'd be interested to know who? Especially when you consider Madrid & Bayern need a full on rebuild this summer aswell, and like it or not have more of a pull than us just now.

We'll do well to keep our supposed top players, whilst adding a couple of potentially decent players, and a couple of solid, but uninspiring type players.

Hang on a minute.
Wasn't a similar thing said last season. I think there were supposed to be 4 ins and 4 outs.
In the end, what we got was Fred, 3rd choice GK and a youth player, which ultimately sent Jose into a downward spiral.

The truth is that we are going to spend as little money as possible, in order to fight for 4th place.

This thinking needs to stop. The reason we didn’t get players last summer is because Mourinho wanted to pay crazy money for average players. 50m for Maguire, 40m for Willian/Perisic. Are people actually upset we didn’t get those players? Would have been more deadwood to clear this summer.

Woodward was willing to spend which is evidenced by the fact that we bid 100m for Koulibaily. If it’s the right player we’ll pay and in my opinion it was smart to not overspend for Mou when we needed a long term rebuild not short term options

One of the most worrying aspects is that Man City, Liverpool and the rest will not rest on their laurels this summer (except, it seems, Chelsea will have no choice). There will be a long-term replacement for Kompany, probably a replacement for Mendy, a new David Silva-type figure, a Fernandinho long-term replacement. At Liverpool they will strengthen again, probably at centre half, quality centre forward/wing cover, and a Lallana replacement for playmaking attacking spark.

When things have become so competitive, to fall behind at this stage is worse than it would have been at any other time in the league's history. DeGea and Lindelof I can see as part of the spine of a team. In midfield and up front, however, no-one. Fullbacks, lacking, no wide players, no quality second centre back, no guaranteed goals in the team. Very worrying. 2 or 3 in won't turn this side into contenders.

There were a lot of rumours last year, from those saying that the board did not want to spend, to those saying that they didn't want to spend because of the type of players Jose wanted. Why would you believe one over the other ?

Well Mourinho said himself he had targets. Woodward also clarified why we didn’t spend to answer questions like yours. Listen the structure of the board needs improving but I’m tired of people making things up like we don’t spend money or we don’t have any to spend. We’ve had 4 proven summers this is not the case. The myth on buying players to sell shirts is always a myth too. Like where the hell are these shirt selling signings?

We spend pocket change in comparison to Manchester City's summer transfer windows under Pep. We want to see half a billion splashed in a single window.

We will see this summer how much we intend to invest and if the club owners really mean what they say about getting us back to the top.
We certainly need to bring in 5 players. CB, RB, 2 Midfielders, and a Forward/Winger. If others like Pogba, Lukaku, and Sanchez are moved on we will need more.

What we need is not only ability, but players with intelligence. One of the most major issues with our current crop is that they don’t even stick to the basics of the sport, absolutely brain dead decisions being made all over the pitch. Can we please sign players with an actual working brain.

We need at least 5 new players for this transfer window get them in early so they report for pre season and tour.
Everyone knows 2/3 Is not enough.

I'm going with:
RB
CB
2 x CM
CF

I think that anyone that expect us to completely overhaul our squad this summer will be disappointed. I think we will make a maximum of 4 signings, and I wouldn’t worry if we only make 2-3 signings. People seem to forget that we already have a solid squad with a lot of quantitiy, and our main focus should be to bring in a couple of quality players to improve our weakest positions. In my mind, we have the following players that are good enough:

De Gea
??? - Lindelöf - ??? - Shaw
McTominay - ??? - Pogba
??? - Lukaku - Rashford

My guess for filling in the empty positions this summer would be:
Wan-Bissaka (50 mill)
Alderweireld (25 mill)
Declan Rice (60 mill)
Jadon Sancho (150 mill)

We also have Dalot and Tuanzebe, young players that have impressed Mourinho. While Mourinho did a lot of mistakes in his period at United, I trust him when it comes to spotting defensive talent. If they are able to step into our starting 11 from the start of next season, we only need a new RW and a midfielder.

No right winger, are you crazy? We literally do not have a right winger, and haven't for about 4 years.

If we can only have 5 I'll say RB, CB, CM, RW, CF

Starting eleven quality in every signing. This season we wasted £70 million plus on Fred and Dalot, who have done nothing.

Who would you play as our RW?
Lingard and Mata to rotate obvz.

Ole said that we are not going to sign a lot of players and we have to work with the players we have. So I guess he will end up signing 3 or 4 players.

Which world-class players can sign without Champions League?

Not this again!
Pogba came in last time. In fact that was our best ever window in the last 5-6 years.

We don't need to go after world class players, but instead the players who will suit our team.
We've shown that by pursuing Di Maria, Falcao, Sanchez types. It's not about the name

So it's Europa League next season so who ever the club had in mind to bring in will now have to be reassessed probably, maybe instead of 1st and 2nd targets its now 3rd and fourth.

Question is will they be good enough. I'm struggling to pick any players I would keep. I think we need new team bar a few players.

My bad. I meant quality players like De Ligt, Sancho, etc. IMO if they fullfil their potential they could be world class players.

Without Champions League, I think talented players would prefer to go to Barcelona, Madrid, Bayern, Juventus, PSG, City, etc.

Players will prefer to go to half those teams whether we've blagged our way into it or not.

We have to hope our recruitment goes right. We've done dreadfully in recent years.

Pogba and Ibra were probably our last 2 good signings, and even then half the time people doubt Pogba, and Ibra despite 27 goals went missing for about 10 games, and we still came 6th in the league. And obviously was a one season guy!

We had Mourinho then though, still a hugely respected coach. If we have Ole still and after this late season horror show, our pulling power is going to be akin to that of an obese neckbeard.

Possibly, but we should be going after the young hungry players with massive potential anyway, not the big names who go off the coach's name.

Feeling like we need to list the players we can keep in this squad, and then start a massive purchasing spree! My list is:

- DDG, Romero
- Lindelof, Shaw (as second string) and Dalot (as second string)
- Pogba, Mctominnay (as second string)
- Rashford, Martial (as second string).

That's just 9 players. ONLY 4 starters. Sad state to be in for our club.

Would like us to sign:

Meunier
Ryan Sessegnon
Aldeirweld
A CM
And a forward

Promote Tuanzebe, Gomes, Greenwood

And ship about 8 players out

I'd say we went for the wrong stars over the year. Di Maria never wanted United, Falcao was coming back from an ACL and Sanchez was already washed up.
