So women tennis players getting equal pay at Wimbledon

I would point out (and this is not in any way sexual) that women's Gymnastics is more of a spectacle than the male version. It's the only sport I can think of where that is the case.

I've always found women's swimming to be equal to the men's. Whilst in many sports and athletic disciplines the women are considered inferior to the men, swimming is an exception in my opinion. That may be clouded, though, by the fact that Great Britain and Northern Ireland actually won a gold in women's swimming and not the men's, though.

I know we a slight row about this earlier.

But the women's game of tennis is much more open than the men's game, there are a good few women who could win the women's title, whereas the men's is generally seen to between two or maybe three different players.

Sometimes women's matches are better than men's and sometimes it's the other way around. I don't enjoy the men's game when it is simply about who can serve the best/fastest, and would take a women's match that would have more play and rallies in it over that any day. It's just about personal preference.

That all said, they shouldn't get paid the same until they compete under the same rules, though not necessarily against each other. It would be interested to know why the women still only play three sets in grand slams. Is that imposed on them or is that how they prefer it?

Nah

A few years back, there was a good argument that the womens game was the most entertaining to watch. In the mens, you had Federer, brilliant arguably the best player to play the game, but that meant he swept up, and there wasn't a whole lot of depth at the top. The womens game had Henin, Clijsters, Davenport, peak Williams sisters... and plenty more. A lot of top class players, any of whom could win any given tournament

Now it's swung. The mens game has the personalities and the interest. The womens game isn't what it was

By the way, how wrong was Plech!

Oh I completely agree, the women's game has suffered from the loss of these players.

I never said, or even meant to imply, that the women's game > men's game. Just that it is unfair to completely write it off.
It is difficult to pick a winner, or even finalists from the women's side of the draw at Wimbledon, which gives the second week some excitement. That said, the men's final will almost undoubtedly be more interesting to watch. I actually think some of that comes down to it being the best of five sets to be honest, it's adds an extra dimension and I, for one, would welcome it at least being tried in the women's game.

They are very different games, we are unlikely to ever see a woman hitting 46 aces in one game, and frankly, I'm pleased about that. Whilst it is a very impressive achievement, there is little pleasure in watching a game were this occurs (I believe it happened at Wimbledon the other day).

Last years mens final was about as good as you could get and was a 5 setter, it is a damn shame that the women made as much as them
