So who realistically will be the new striker?

Gudjohnson must be in with a shout, though the situation with Chelsea seems to have cooled recently. But I keep having a feeling that it's gonna be Crespo.

Gudjohnsen "Flattered By Sunderland Interest" (August 8th, 2002)
Any chance of a Sunderland move for Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen seems to have been killed off, after the Icelandic striker decided to stay at Chelsea.
Sunderland had been linked for the £12m-rated former Bolton striker, but his agent, who had been trying to get Gudjohnsen a pay rise at Stamford Bridge, has said that Eidur is going nowhere.

Gudjohnsen's agent, Peter Harrison, said today: Obviously we're aware of Sunderland's interest and he's flattered by that. They are such a big club.

"Although they haven't had the best of times lately, they've done fairly well since they got back into the Premiership. But Eidur is happy at Chelsea."

Do you remember when girls used to say "I like you as a friend".

Poor Mackems now know how it felt. The 'kin tarts.

I think Crespo wud be the ideal buy, but as people have sed, he is worth 25-30 million. that means without the 10 million they owe us, we'll have to dig out 15-20 million, but we wont afta the purchase of ferdinand. isn't Rivaldo club-less. I no hes 20 but hes still got 5 years at the least

There'll be no striker. We've got Ruud, Ole, and Diego, and will probably use Giggsy if there's an injury crisis. Better start thinking about next summer when we might buy two strikers.

1. Cisse
2. Ronaldinhio
3. Gudjohnsen

are at the top of my list.

If we do not sign a new Striker, then here's my top three for 2003:

1. Gudjohnsen
2. Duff
3. Ronaldo

Don't expect we'll get any of these but Duff though TBH.

I think if United do qualify for the CL then they should waste no time in getting Crespo. A 10 mil fee for this kind of player is peanuts. He is a great player and if you can score goals in the Serie A you can score anywhere. I believe he cost Lazio 35 mil pounds when he moved from Parma so 10 mil is a steal. As it is United have already missed out on the deal of the summer, Cannavaro to Inter for just 10 mil pounds.

Doubt they'd let him go for 10m plus the Stam money they owe us. That would mean they'd part with him for whats tantamount to 21m, which is highly unlikely since they A: paid 37m for him, and B: are apparently negotiating to sell Nesta to Milan right now.

Larsson will probably be sold when Celtic goes out of the Champions League. It was reported in a Swedish newspaper today, and Larsson was quoted saying:

a) it's a possibility
b) that he'd accept it if they wanted to sell him cause of his age
c) that football is big buisness

The paper then come to the conclusion that Larsson would end up in Ajax or Auxerre, with Zlatan or Cisse going the other way.

Raoul, all recent reports say the Nesta-AC deal has fallen through, don't they ?

Yes, he may be leaving Celtic if they encounter financial problems, but I haven't heard anyone say anything that would contradict what Larsson said last week. Not even Agent Talk has been bandied about as per normal, i.e. discussions between the two clubs are at an advanced stage, a deal could be concluded within the next few days etc. Indeed, quite the contrary. He says he doesn’t fancy England and is happy in Scotland and that he will stay there forever unless they don’t want him. So I think it’s safe to say he is not coming, especially as he is around the 30 mark.

what about cheisa from fiorentina- hes on a free and quite a good goal scorer

It's more than a bit worrying that nothing is in the pipeline. But I'm still worried about the defence.

I hope that as far as goals go, we can return to the kind of form a couple of years ago, when midfield chipped in with almost as many goals as the strikers.

So Kenyon may have been genuine after all.

Oh, I don't think he'll ever play for United. Or actually I'm sure of that.

However, if he were to leave Celtic soon (i.e. while he's still a good player) I think him playing in England is as likely as him playing in Holland or France.

Its a bit worrying that we're no longer linked with any striker, will we go for a stop gap solution like PDC now?

I read Nuno Gomez is supposed to be free because of the current situation at Fiorentina.

I think you'll find it was Ballack, Deisler and Ze Roberto to Munich. All for around 15 million!!! Ballack was 6 million Euro, Ze Roberto 10 and 5 for Deisler (i think).

Yeah but we already have 6 World Class Midfielders, Cannavoro is one of the best defenders in the world.
