So, how much dross could we flog off to QPR?

I think QPR may have learnt a lesson from the last time they went on a spending spree. But if they were to spend, hopefully they will take a look at Valencia, Young, Fellaini and Carrick.

Valencia and Carrick? Don't be silly.

I reckon we should give Bebe a six month loan in the Prem to see if he can springboard off his improvements in Portugal. The likes of Wilson and Lawrence should also be considered.

Possibly not much at all:

Why are QPR facing a hefty financial punishment?
Any Football League club that exceeds an £8m loss for the 2013-14 campaign when their accounts are submitted by 1 December this year is subject to a punishment.

As the 2012-13 accounts of QPR Holdings Limited posted losses of £65.4m, with a wage bill of £68m, it is not hard to envisage another hefty deficit this term given the Loftus Road outfit have lost out on about £50m in television money.

Personal preference really. I understand that most people will disagree, but i have never rated Carrick as highly as most people do. He is a huge part of the problem that we have in midfield. He is a "flat track bully", he does a decent job against poor opposition, but when the big boys come out to play, he is nowhere to been seen.

Valencia, apart from a purple patch from January to May of 2012, he has been utter shite since he returned from that injury he suffered. Offers nothing going forward, which is his primary job, and the only defense he plays is to give away a foul.

You have a fair argument. I think many would agree with you - I certainly do.

BUT...he's still our best central midfielder. Sure, he may be a flat track bully, but none of our other CMs even seem to be that. Carrick should be the last of our current bunch to go, because, quite frankly, we're not going to be buying 4 top class central midfielders.

They tried that 2 years ago and failed miserably with Park and Fabio.

The only players who might even agree to move to QPR would be those who are nearing the end of their careers - a move to QPR is a massive step down for a relegation fight and very few players are going to want to go there.

Depends on how Van Gaal wants to set up the formation. If he goes with 4-3-3, then we would need two box to box midfielders, and then Kagawa or Rooney can be the attacking midfielders. If he plays with 2 in the middle, then we need 3 midfielders, twos starters and a backup, as i don't think Rooney or Kagawa can play in a two man midfield. I would still like to keep Cleverley around and see if the new manager can get him back to his best.

There is plenty of drops in our squad. Doubt Arry is stupid enough to waste the clubs money on our deadwood

Lovely thread.
It would be fantatsic to offload Young, Cleverley, Fellaini and Buttner for around 40-50million but it sounds too good to be true.

We'd never get that much for them 4. Be lucky to get £30m

~£7m for Cleverley, ~£1m for Bebe, ~£5m for Young, ~£16m for Fellaini, ~£3m for Ando, ~£4m for Buttner

tbh even those fees are optimistic.

I couild see Young and Nani there for 8 and 12 million respectively. Cleverley to West Ham imo, hes their sort of buy.

I can imagine Ashley Young and Buttner at QPR.

As much as I would love for them to come shopping for our rejects, I'd say it would be the wrong thing to do for QPR. They need to invest in promising young, hungry talent, not the same type of overpaid mercenaries that took them down in the first place. Learn your lesson QPR, or you'll be back down next year.

To be fair, if they did get all the players they've been linked with (Lampard/Rio/A.Cole/Barry) they'd be pretty much guaranteed survival.

This deadline day is shaping up good again. More wheeler dealing from your car window please 'Arry!

Is it not Joe Cole they've been linked to rather than Ashley? Cashley's still got a couple of years in him at a higher level than QPR.

Pfff.

You'd have struggled to find a single person on here who wouldn't agree that he was at the very least our second best player 2012-13. Certainly nothing about him being a flat track bully. One bad season under a bad manager in a struggling team doesn't change that.

We should be looking to sell any other CM currently on our books before Carrick.

Both Cole's were mentioned in the article Infra-red posted at the top of the page. You're right though, he'd be far too good for them. Joe on the other hand...

Is that the only highlight you can find?

Players' Player of the Year that season, second place in fans' player of the year. What do you think?
Yea, Valencia got voted the same the year before. If he is as good as you claim, don't you think he should have been on the plane to Brazil?

No, because he's been poor this season under Moyes, and you have to pick national teams based on form. It's right that he's not there. But Valencia's been poor for two and a half seasons. Carrick's been a quality (if underrated) midfielder for years and years under Fergie, a regular in many, many trophy-winning seasons, and in 2012-13 he was truly exceptional. So one bad season in a year when the whole team had a really bad one looks anomalous.

Come back when he's had two bad seasons in a row under a competent manager.

Are you still claiming I can only find one highlight of that exceptional season, by the way, or are we writing that one off as a pointless jab?
