If the signing of Rio goes through, would you say we have improved our team?

Surely you can't discount the Arse?
They were excellent last season

What do you mean. "If we get Rio I can see it being a fight for the title". Even without Rio we are up there fighting for the title with Arsenal, with Rio it will be a little bit easier. Seriously, Arsenal are the team to beat I do think Liverpool will do as well as last season, was a freak result for them and I expect them to be some 10 - 15 points behind us and Arse.

Don't be daft, Liverpool will be up there with both us and the Arse

Think so?
Look at their game plan, like a midtable team. Derby goes there and they have to brake liverpool down because they back down and not the other way around. We had our worst season for ages and they were ahead with one point, I don't expect them to do as well this season. It was more of the case that we took one step back than them progressing anything last year.

Yeah injuries could take their toll early on..but I don't think you can discount them at all..in fact I'd say they were favs..

Although their style is not very pleasing for the eye, it does give them consistency + I reckon we'll see a more adventerous Liverpool this season. The test will be for them to be able to cope defensively if they attack more though.

im not discounting them its just they will be without 2 of there best players for 2-3months at the start of the season but yeah they will be up there but i think it will be between us and you
whos going to replace pires?
someone like kanu or wiltord, see what i mean?

Yet we managed to get more points than the season before...
That must be due to your decline

Correct, one of the reasons H & H have been shining is because they've had the 5 th defender hamann there to stop anything from happening with pace. When they had to attack they let in quite a few. As GH has stated it's a 5 year plan and if they are to progress they have to attack, so this transition will also help us.

Edu on the left? Wiltord was far better on the right than I expected him to be last season..
I'm surprised they haven't moved more in the transfer market..which could be a blessing

Or it could be that this fact will make them very competitive from the start of the season as they don't have any new players and are a team that knows how to play together. Bringing in 5 new players every season doesn't necessarily make the team better instantly.

No shit sherlock..
But improving your weaker areas of the team can be useful..

Hmmm, needless to say that I find it likely that it doesn't work. You haven't got the players. This Diouf who I have seen in 4 games could be the man to help this cause but he still has to adapt to a new team, country, culture, language etc. so it will take a while before you get max out of him.

And the shite area in arsenal last year was?
They played excellent total football and didn't have any weak areas. Even without Pires they managed to win the league.

Yes but you don't seem to rate any of our players despite the fact that we are clearly top three material and were better than you last season..
So I'm not convinced you're the best judge to be honest...

Like you then
ten years domination despite only having a couple of good players

You have big squad, you can basically field 2 teams that are equally as good which I don't think any other team can at the moment. That is you have 20 internationals in your squad but you have not got any top class players (except Hyypia) and to some would say Owen, alot of this has to do with GH conservative shopping strategy. So when you win it's a case of the team doing the job, therefore it might seem like I don't rate any of your players when we discuss them as individuals as they clearly are inferior to the top club sides.

They haven't got any "shite" areas....
But they could have done with some decent "cover" for their wide midfielders..someone like Duff/Dunn, a striker and a RB

So our only top class players are Hyypia, and maybe Owen?

Henry's fantastic, Bergkamp is class but getting on, Wiltord looked better on the right to me, Jeffers is ok when not injured, Kanu is crap....

Nah, add Dudek and Gerrard to that list

Hmmm, I'd say so. Anyone else here of another opinion? Some would say Hamann, but he's basically alone in his destructive and defensive role without a license to go passed the half way line so he can hardly be classed as world class.
You're like the korean team, they won some games but I'll be damned if I remembered the name of a single korean player after their games.

Any team in the world would want Hypia and Owen. Dudek was class last season as well - a very astute purchase. Liverpool is built around a defensive team ethic and while it has not set the world alight it has reaped dividends. I honestly think the issue this season will be that teams will work out a strategy to combat their counter attacking style. It happened to us (with our gung ho, 100 mile an hour approach) after the exhilarating season of 99, hence Fergie's attempts to change the system (non too successfully imo).
Some of the smaller teams frustrated Liverpool last season by refusing to attack and forcing them to set the pace, which they were less comfortable with. I expect others will have seen and learnt from that. It will be interesting to see how they handle that - especially at home.
That said Liverpool have developed a tough resolve and only a fool would discount them challenging.
