So, after two games, what should be our team? Or three now.

Onana
Yoro - De Ligt - Licha
Maz - Ugarte - Mainoo - Garnacho
Dalot - Bruno
Hojlund
Imo that would be our strongest 11, Garnacho works really hard off the ball and is best used out wide in space, I really think the LWB role suits him. Amad needs to be closer to goal and in that position can score or pick out players in the box (Garnacho making wide and late runs). The rest don't really need any explanation.

Dalot no.10 needs no explanation?

Not necessarily the team I want it to be in all positions but I think it's starting to take shape in terms of what Amorim wants. I think the team for Everton will be something like below, he seems to like Fernandes in the deeper position and in the absence of other suitable options, Amad and Dalot will probably be the wing backs.

Onana
Mazraoui De Ligt Martinez
Amad Ugarte Fernandes Dalot
Mount Hojlund Garnacho
It might evolve a bit over time, I see Shaw becoming a starter if he can build up and stay fit - maybe only as the LCB because the jump in intensity to play LWB is quite a big one. I'd like to think Amad could move into the 10 role on the right if we end up signing one or two wing backs, but that could take a while. I'd also like to see Yoro occupying the CCB role in place of De Ligt once he's fit, I'm not entirely convinced by the latter.

I think Dalot as a number 10 requires an explanation

Next season we should buy RWB and LWB, move Amad forward and Shaw to LCB.

Also, I purposefully put Mazraoui, Amad, Ugarte, and Mainoo on the same side. That right side would be tasty.
Awful place for mainoo

Which ever players you choose, yoro has to be in the back 3, we lack pace otherwise.

All we can do at this stage is note how different players have fared in the positions they've been tried, and try to judge what seems reasonable to expect on that basis.

Goal - Onana great against Ipswich, okay against Glimt. He'll start again.

Back line: Not impressive in either game, which might mean further options to be tried. De Ligt perhaps okayish in both games, Mazraoui struggled a bit against Ipswich I thought but was pretty good against Glimt. Martinez, nothing special. Evans did not play well against Ipswich. Shaw had pretty decent cameos at LCB in both games, but the question is if he's fully match fit to start. Obviously like everyone I'd like to see Yoro play soon, but I suspect Mazraoui has the upper hand for the RCB spot for now. All in all, my guess is we'll see the same back 3 against Everton.

LWB: Dalot and Malacia both performed badly in starts. Malacia looks to me a good way off game time. Obviously his lengthy absence plays a part in that, but his primary weakness - a lack of quality on the ball - was also pretty evident already before he got injured. I think the best we've seen is the early second half against Bodø/Glimt, when it looked like Dalot moved in to join the 10s while Garnacho operated on the flank, at least when we were in possession. It seems fairly logical to me that the next step would be to start Garnacho in this position. Shaw is also an option, but again, match fitness.

RWB: Antony was very poor, Amad pretty good. And it seems evident to me that we need Amad up front, he's really the only attacker we have apart from Mainoo who has the technical quality to thrive in confined conditions, which we'll see a lot of. Mazraoui might be an option, but I question if he has the dynamism required in attack, and in any case he seems ensconced for now at RCB. Dalot too, of course. He should have better qualifications for performing in an attacking wide role on the right than he does on the left. But he obviously offers a good deal less attacking-wise than Amad does, and he seems to be lacking in confidence, reverting to old sins of overly passive defending.

CMs: Casemiro and Eriksen obviously were not confidence-inspiring, Ugarte and Bruno has looked much better. I don't think we got a lot out of Bruno yesterday, which might reflect B/Gs narrow and deep defensive shape as soon as they abandoned the press, which led to our CMs not being that much involved on the ball. All the time, it was the CBs passing it between themselves and mostly finding an outlet on the flanks. He was much more influential on the ball against Ipswich, with several beautiful incisive forward passes. I have a feeling Amorim will stick with these two here for the time being, and I've not seen something to contradict that he should.

10s: Bruno so-so up there against Ipswich, Garnacho likewise (and looked a good deal more effective when he moved wide). Mount tame in the first half, but had a good 15 minutes before being substituted in the second half. The thing is I don't see how we can avoid bringing in Mainoo, who has the technical quality and ability to play in confined spaces that almost everyone else lacks. And I suspect he'd be put to better use as one of the 10s than further back. If Garnacho moves to LWB, the space is there for him to share with Mount.

Striker: Rashford generally not functional against Ipswich, Højlund excellent against B/G. The choice seems obvious.

Quenda won't be cheap and I'd rather play Mazraoui on his natural side. Train Garna to do the Quenda role on the left side. Kvaratskhelia would be the dream New No 10 signing, give Rashford his much awaited move to PSG to fund the move. Mount would be a good option on the bench too.

I long to see Kobbie again! Yoro will be really interesting, since he played in a back three on France. That will make it possible to play Maz at RWB as well.

Further, I love that Amorim subs players all over the place. Not risking injuries on players just coming back, players looking tired etc. That will also make players be on their toes.

Two games, zero injuries. Hope that continues!

On-Topic, I think he is looking for a group of 6-7 players to be regulars and then rotate the rest to match the opposition.
It is sad and almost funny the bar is so low for us. Just 45min without anyone of our players limping in pain makes you react.

Ruben will do the same here in the 1st summer of what he did at Sporting Lisbon.

Get rid of 7/8 players, bring in 4/5 quality players and add few from academy.

Question is, which players he is going to off load in the summer and hope Dan has already started chasing quality players

Didn't Amorim pretty much confirm Bruno as a #8 in his system during the post match interview?

I want to see:

----- Yoro -------------- De Ligt -------------- Martinez

Maz -------- Ugarte ----------- Mainoo ------- Shaw

-------- Amad ------- Hojlund --------- Buno ---------

Garnacho needs to remain a super sub.

The front 3 for me there is the issue. The rest of the team looks very good indeed (ignoring Onana but I don’t want to reopen that argument). I’d put Bruno elsewhere and Garnacho at LW for your best team but that leaves 3 players upfront who are there based on how you *hope* they’ll be in the future, rather than how they perform on a weekly basis. It’s not Amorim’s fault, clearly, but this feels like the kind of mess that SAF would never in a million years have let his sides get into. 3 players of a similar age, with flashes of brilliance but no real consistency, all in one area of the pitch.

Onana
Yoro De Ligt Martinez
Amad Ugarte Mainoo Garna/Maz
Mount Fernandes

Eventually we will transition to both wingbacks being actual wingers. Bruno should not be the 8, against better teams he will be found out defensively and he is one of our best goal scorers so get him closer to goal.

This way, you have almost the entire team being very comfortable on the ball and able to play one touch passes.

You can also set it up like you actually would on a tactics board, with the team attacking upwards/forwards instead of downwards/backwards:

Forward-Forward-Forward
Midfielder-Midfielder-Midfielder-Midfielder
Defender-Defender-Defender
Goalkeeper
It's a more intuitive way of setting up and viewing a formation, rather than doing it backwards like this:

You must be confident to only go with 9 players.

With kobbie and Ugarte that would be my first team in high profile games too. With the high intensity there will be enough rotation to keep everyone happy.

When everyone is fit, “legit” we will not be allowed play with 9 players

I think Amad is wasted as the RWB, he should be a right sided AM where he can drift right or cut inside. Amad is a clever player and a good dribbler. Garnacho, Dalot, Shaw, Malacia are not option for LWB. I think we will probably buy a new one. The another AM will rotate between Mount and Bruno, I don't want to Rashford on the pitch unless we have no option. Rashford has become the new Lingard, he score against Ipswich but was totally invisible in the whole game. He cannot play as a striker as he doesn't likes to play with his back to goal and is consistently bully by CB. He really has any football IQ to play as a striker therefore he prefers as LW.

Where is the fun in that

From what we currently have available:

Onana
Mazraoui — De Ligt — Shaw
Amad — Ugarte — Mainoo — Dalot
Mount — Fernandes/Garnacho
Hojlund
When Yoro returns I’d like to see him in CB, Mazraoui wing back, and Amad no.10
I agree with this I think, don’t like dalot there but not sure who else anyway. other than that yeah

I don’t think I’ll be surprised to see mainoo further forward and Bruno deeper. So has you have it there in your line up but Bruno and mainoo switched and possibly Garnacho left of the 4.

I can’t see Bruno working as a CM. We saw on Thursday his lack of defensive work leading to one of their goals. Surely he’s gotta be one of the 10s.
