Wait... Inter sold him to Galatasaray for €7.5 million in Jan 2013.

6-months later at £15 million we are supposed to be interested?

"I don't usually struggle to settle wherever I go but I really feel welcome here. [Didier] Drogba also feels the same. We are a big family here at Galatasaray," the 28-year-old told Sabah.

"I was speaking about this with my wife the other day, I haven't experienced this kind of love at either [Real] Madrid or [Inter] Milan and I could really see myself living the rest of my life in Istanbul.

"I have always aimed to play for the best clubs in the world - Galatasaray are one of them. I have lots of Turkish friends in football and they introduced me to Turkish football so I knew all about Galatasaray.

"I had no question marks over Galatasaray. The only thing I was unsure about was the Turkish league - whether it was strong or competitive enough.

"However, after my first game I found out just how tough the league is. Every team raise their game against us and always put up a challenge."

The Netherlands international also praised Galatasaray's fans as being among the best he has ever played in front of.

"First of all I want to say that I will always have the utmost respect for Inter fans," Sneijder added.

"But words can't explain what it's like to play in front of Galatasaray fans. It's not something that can be described but something you can only experience.

"I've never seen anything like it and I don't think there is anything that comes close. The supporters really are incredible, the chants, the banners, the choreography is just amazing.

"I want to invite everyone I know to experience the atmosphere here."

That went well

Not only that, he knew United were after him but his choice was Galatasaray.

He should stay there and stop generating another wave of absolute bullshit.

We were interested in Summer '11. The ship had well and truly sailed by the time he chose Galatasary.

No. Wesley had his chance to make a deal work but chose not to. We've since picked up Kagawa. And Powell isn't that far away from making his mark in the English prem.

If we're going to go Dutch, let's do Strootman. And perhaps steal Van Ginkel from Chelsea before he puts pen to paper.

My impression is that he did not join us because of the money. So he can feck off as far as I m concerned. In Summer 11 he was one year into a new contract and the new contract stipulated that if Inter try to transfer him without Sneijder formally requesting a transfer, Inter will have to give Sneijder & co 7 million euros. Apparently the Sneijder entourage did not want to lose those 7 million, which Inter clearly did not want to fork out. (Sneijder knew that Inter desperately wanted to offload him in order to reduce their wages bill but they did not move one inch)
The interested clubs (us included) did not want to fork out more money either, and everything stopped there.
Then a year after, with Sneijder unsettled, they allowed him to move for a smaller fee to Galatasaray in what became imo a lose-lose situation for both parties.

The problem with him coming to United has always been about wages. He was on ridiculous money at Inter and I wouldn't think he took a much of wage cut to go to Galatasaray , so I doubt we are interested in him any more at the type of money he would ask for.

That summer was terrible. All those preseason Inter matches watched to see how Sneijder could play in a 2 man midfield for us...

If we can get City to go for him by bidding 12 million, I say "have at it!"

If I had a quid every time someone posted 'that ship has sailed', I'd have enough money to buy Sneijder. But I wouldn't because that ship has sailed.

I don't know why on earth I'm saying this, but would he be a bad option if Rooney left? I know that 'the ship has sailed' and all that, but I don't think that it's crazy to think that we'd at least make a bid.

If it makes a difference the quoted price is "in the region of €15million" - that's £12.75m. And the phrase "in the region of" suggests they'd accept less.

He's shot, rather like Kaka - do not want, needs to join a team which plays at a slower tempo.

We might have like a dutch quartet next season if we sign Strootman and Sneijder.

If we lose Rooney, I'd like to see Lewandowski brought in to pick up the slack (which isn't going to happen, but that's what I'd like to see). Robert is, today, is better pure finisher than Wayne. However, we'd still need to deal with the midfield situation, even after we procure Ronaldo. Do Strootman and take our chances on Cleverley progressing from last season and Fletcher making his triumphant return. And if Fletcher does not make a triumphant return, then use Jones as a spot defensive midfielder until he's needed full time at center-back.

Best case scenario, we bring in Ronaldo, keep Rooney and Nani, sell Ando and bring in Strootman (I'm assuming there's no chance in hell we're going to snag either Fabregas or Alcantara). Adding Ronaldo and Strootman would be a sufficient net upgrade to allow us to compete for the CL title, and sock away the prem title fairly easily. I do see huge upside in Cleverley and Powell to get us through those dreary days at the Brittania Stadium, the Stadium of Light and others places where we wouldn't necessarily want to waste Ronaldo's talent.

This rumour needs to be killed. With fire. And then buried. At sea. In a cement filled coffin.

I've just been Ruud'ed...

What the feck dude?

Obviously, you're a one dimensional thinker.

To explain the obvious, we don't need nor do want to go in for Sneijder, even on a free transfer. I hope you'll agree this is a Sniejder thread. You don't go in for Sneijder not because he's no longer a quality player. I haven't seen him much lately but it's safe to assume he can still put in a decent performance here and there. You don't go in for him because he doesn't fit into any reasonable plan for United going forward. Everyone has their own ideas on how to move forward, but I think we would all agree that Sneijder's proverbial ship has sailed and I think we would all agree there are interesting options available to us in midfield. We've discussed several of those options -- whether they are "real" or not I have no idea -- on other threads. While I have no objections to a new Sneijder thread I really do hope we don't get caught up in the kind of frenzy we were wound up in a few summers ago.

With respect to the point re Lewandowski, I was responding to the point another poster made regarding the prospect of losing Rooney. Although I don't see it happening, there is a chance we could sell Rooney. If so, we have one more thing to think about. Whether we sell Rooney or not, I would advise against procuring Sniejder. My two cents...that's all.

A problem with your CM in the past few years is that it's aging. He'd add to that at 29. Aye, you can bring up RVP being that age but with him you had a player coming off one of his best, if not his best season ever. With Sneijder you have a player who hasn't been the same really since the Treble year.

It'd make zero sense signing him now.
