Chelsea and former Manchester United target Wesley Sneijder is available this summer for just £15 million.
Chelsea have been offered huge incentive to go after Wesley Sneijder after Galatasaray president Unal Aysal admitted the midfielder is available this summer for a fee of £15 million.
The Dutchman has been suggested as a possible target for Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge to inject experience and dynamism into an already small midfield, vulnerable to aggressive tactics.
“If there was a bid of £15million or above, we will consider a sale,” Aysal was quoted in the Metro.
The news may also rekindle the interest of Manchester United who turned down the chance to sign him for a £20 million fee during the Sir Alex Ferguson era.
However, that proof that Ferguson obviously saw something he didn’t like in Sneijder is unlikely to change just because David Moyes has taken over as boss, especially as Ferguson still has an influence at Old Trafford.
Arsenal could be a possible destination considering their new financial muscle and the way Ivan Gazidis has now implied the club can pretty much sign whoever they like.
Arsene Wenger may be tempted to add extra quality and experience into his midfield and Sneijder would still have the chance to perform on Europe’s biggest stage, the Champions League with the Gunners.
They’re also a club where he’s likely to enjoy from having a very high profile akin to his moves to Inter Milan and Real Madrid before the Serie A switch.
Tottenham could well throw their hats into the ring because of the price Sneijder seems to be available for.
Spurs seem to be linked with a variety of play makers on a daily basis as they look to consolidate as one of the main clubs challenging for a top four place on a seasonal basis.
Tottenham wouldn’t have to break the bank to get him although the personal deal is where the move could break down. Daniel Levy seems very reluctant to even break the current wage structure just to keep Gareth Bale.
The only other possible destination in England is Liverpool but Brendan Rodgers faces an uphill task to get the transfer past the Liverpool board without being rejected.
That very public and high profile snub of the Ashley Williams deal is the best proof that Rodgers is always going to face a tough challenge if he wants to sign older players for a fair whack of money.
The most likely destinations are Chelsea and Arsenal, both could afford his fee and his wages.
