Chelsea and former Manchester United target Wesley Sneijder is available this summer for just £15 million.
Chelsea have been offered huge incentive to go after Wesley Sneijder after Galatasaray president Unal Aysal admitted the midfielder is available this summer for a fee of £15 million.
The Dutchman has been suggested as a possible target for Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge to inject experience and dynamism into an already small midfield, vulnerable to aggressive tactics.
“If there was a bid of £15million or above, we will consider a sale,” Aysal was quoted in the Metro.
The news may also rekindle the interest of Manchester United who turned down the chance to sign him for a £20 million fee during the Sir Alex Ferguson era.
However, that proof that Ferguson obviously saw something he didn’t like in Sneijder is unlikely to change just because David Moyes has taken over as boss, especially as Ferguson still has an influence at Old Trafford.
Arsenal could be a possible destination considering their new financial muscle and the way Ivan Gazidis has now implied the club can pretty much sign whoever they like.
Arsene Wenger may be tempted to add extra quality and experience into his midfield and Sneijder would still have the chance to perform on Europe’s biggest stage, the Champions League with the Gunners.
They’re also a club where he’s likely to enjoy from having a very high profile akin to his moves to Inter Milan and Real Madrid before the Serie A switch.
Tottenham could well throw their hats into the ring because of the price Sneijder seems to be available for.
Spurs seem to be linked with a variety of play makers on a daily basis as they look to consolidate as one of the main clubs challenging for a top four place on a seasonal basis.
Tottenham wouldn’t have to break the bank to get him although the personal deal is where the move could break down. Daniel Levy seems very reluctant to even break the current wage structure just to keep Gareth Bale.
The only other possible destination in England is Liverpool but Brendan Rodgers faces an uphill task to get the transfer past the Liverpool board without being rejected.
That very public and high profile snub of the Ashley Williams deal is the best proof that Rodgers is always going to face a tough challenge if he wants to sign older players for a fair whack of money.
The most likely destinations are Chelsea and Arsenal, both could afford his fee and his wages.

That ship has sailed etc etc.
Anyway, according to Van Gaal, Sneijder has fitness issues: "He hasn't been fit for a whole year."

I could see Liverpool signing him to be honest and he'd be a good signing for them.

I don't want him anywhere near us now though, he was world class for a season and has had periods of being a top class player but I question his motivation.

Pretty sure Sneijder would want European football. Could see him going to Italy, or even France.

To be fair to him, he hardly played in the last 12 months. Just 5 games at Inter and 12 at Galatasaray.

He is still 29 though, and if he lowers his wage demands, he could still be a good signing for the likes of Spurs.

Blimey, his hair's grown back...

In the past 5 years he has started 18, 24, 22, 16 & 9 league games for his clubs. The guy has been suffering injuries problems for years.

Abandon thread.

On the other side, it will be funny if we are again interested on him, make here 200 pages and then don't sign him.

"I wanted to go to United but Inter didn’t let me."

:(

Nail, you need to sort out the quote font. It's awful.

And.. Ok, whatever this thread is about.. I'm out.

Probably my favourite transfer saga ever. My heart was never really in Hazards's last year.

They'd be tempted by £15m? At this point they'd probably take €5m to take him off their pay roll.

They want Nani don't they? Ask them for Sneijder and 5m for Nani.

God on high
Hear my prayer
In my need
You have always been there

He is young
He's afraid
Let him rest
Heaven blessed.
Bring him home
Bring him home
Bring him home.

He's like the son I might have known
If God had granted me a son.
The summers die
One by one
How soon they fly
On and on
And I am old
And will be gone.

Bring him peace
Bring him joy
He is young
He is only a boy

Reading between the lines, something tells me that there is something amiss with Wesley. Just a hunch like.

The Netherlands head coach insists the playmaker will not regain the Oranje captaincy until he improves his physical condition
Netherlands head coach Louis van Gaal has criticised the fitness of midfielder Wesley Sneijder following his side's 3-0 friendly victory over Indonesia on Friday.

Robin van Persie was handed the captain's armband for the clash, and Van Gaal insists Galatasaray star Sneijder will not regain the honour - nor his place in the starting XI - until he improves his physical condition.

"He wasn't fully fit and he hasn't been fit for a whole year," Van Gaal told SBS6.

"You could see that on the pitch. As long as he isn't in shape, he can't be in the team and he can't be captain."

Reflecting on the victory for Oranje, Van Gaal was critical of the first-half performance, though he did admit his side improved drastically after the interval.

"In the first half we were not relaxed when we had the ball. We also missed a lot of chances so if you're still at 0-0 before half-time, something has gone wrong with the display," he said.

"The second half was much better. Each player was better than another, but everyone played their part in this victory."

He seems motivated by money, but not to the extent that he's willing to get himself physically right. Yes please.
