Sir Jim Ratcliffe: I want to buy Manchester United | Will make a bid for the club [Telegraph]

Far to simplistic, this has been debated on here over and over. There's multiple reasons why boycotts are a red herring at this stage.
Is it? says who exactly? You get massive publicity and make the sponsors very nervous. The club is only worth what it is because of the fans. Its only really been done for one match...

Does anyone know of what Jim's plans would be regarding the women's side of the club, as I haven't seen anything mentioned in that particular regard, only what might potentially happen with the men's side.

Radcliffe personally and/ or his company INEOS can definitely afford United, it would also not be a leveraged deal. He made a formal bid for Chelsea but missed the deadline. He has been looking to buy a top Premier league club for years, but United always his deam deal. Dont be an idiot.

So in other words he's full of shit?

He missed the deadline? What sort of Billionaire with billions to buy United can miss a deadline for a cheap Chelsea?

and he's been looking for clubs for years with all the billions to even buy United but in the end he bought nothing?

Yup. Sounds like Elon to me.

And please spare me your insult, grow up

The Glazer’s I am pretty sure want to sell to Dubai or someone larger. They will want other deals almost as favours for selling United I imagine.

Dubai can pay more than Jim and in all honesty the only way we can compete with City ‘on & mainly off the field’. Jim wouldn’t get us anywhere near to competing with City for off field influence.

Dubai as owners would and maybe the Glazer’s know this too.

I’m pretty sure Jim would bring very little to the table compared to the Saudi and UAE backed clubs in the league. He’s never proved he can do it especially against a behemoth like the City group currently.

This guy is not our saviour and never was if you want to build a dynasty.

No he was definitely interested and went to mee the Glazers. Not trying to be an ITK idiot but he also confirmed this at a conference yesterday. Has been looking to buy a top Premier league for several years, but his is a genuine Utd fan so that was his preference. He has now moved on.

Define "genuine". If I had four or five billion in loose cash stashed under my mattress, I wouldn't be interested in spending it on buying - say - Chelsea.

Not much revealed that we didn’t already know about in an unremarkable interview. It’s pretty obvious that the Glazers will continue to hold on with a vice like grip, they’re not smart enough to generate wealth any other way.

could be just typical wheeling dealing rhetoric
glazers saying they dont want to sell = we are gonna pretend were not interested is sale so you will bid way over market value
jim saying he cant wait around for them to want to sell = im not paying way over market value, so let me know when you clowns are serious

Yeah much as it pains me to admit only Dubai or some Chinese royal family would ever be able to offer anywhere near $10bn

Is it possible sir Jim Nd glazers meeting never happened but its encouraging a bit more pressure to get rid of the cancer?? Brings price down. Put more pressure on they might feel obliged to sell?

Yeah but another mistake people make is thinking billionaires think about money in same way a factory worker thinks about a lottery win.

The assumption is 'who wouldn't want shit loads of money, lots of holidays and the life of luxury?' - but that's already the life they lead.
but do they want that debt around their necks?

Surely if he buys the club, he buys the whole club... he's not just buying a team

but do they want that debt around their necks?
Yes. Clearly. That was their plan. They didn't have to buy the club and/or accumulate debt in the first place..

That's the other misconception - that they've been perpetually stunned by their own business model and looking for a way out.

That's incredibly unlikely too. It's like thinking someone who buys a house with a mortgage would, the second the first repayment demand comes through, resolved to find a buyer ASAP to get rid of the debt around their neck.

Unless they bought the club accidentally they're very unlikely to see debt as a motivation to seek a buyer

Not a great analogy - you end up (if you do things right and, I guess are lucky) owning the house or using it to get a new one... with some mortgages, the debt reduces month by month

If they want to sell then they would make it obvious as that would encourage a bidding war. Why would they sell it to Jim Ratcliffe when they can potentially make more money elsewhere? I also don't buy this Manchester lad BS either. First of all Jim has no idea of football. Secondly this club had two successful managers and they weren't from Manchester. Its not as if being from Manchester means you're some genius in football.

Look tv deals might be on the horizon again. United is a cash cow at present as long as they ignore the stadium falling to bits, and have no intentions of spending their way to top spot. Glazers are going nowhere unfortunately

Glazers aren't selling. They don't even feel a bit of pressure from some mickey mouse protests. United fans haven't found a way to hurt them in any meaningful way.
Haven't and doubt much would - Glazers have thick skin, live miles away, get dividends and value appreciation. They'll go when they want?

The only (legal) thing I could see making a small difference is huge fan boycotts.. I'm talking empty grounds/few k. That might get media focus but season tickets are paid for so it's only the non season ticket income they lose, but a couple of mill, week after week MIGHT get somewhere. But can't see it happening as too many fans will take up tickets if spare.

I think we're stuck with them until some massive offer comes in. And that is likely to be from a country and from a limited few. Then all the comments on City, Newcastle, etc come to us..

What is the value of nothing? What is the alternative to nothing? If nothing is the purchase cost, and nothing has turned from bottom?

The thing is that they could really get pissed off the way things are going and this might happen. They are the sellers and can sell to whoever they want.

Who's asking for a saviour? Just need to remove the leeches and stop the rot. The club doesn't need massive capital injection.

We need more money to be spent on our squad. But also, money needs to be spent on the stadium and training ground. The Glazers will not spend from their own pockets and will screw us over even more!

Need Glazers out.

Its being reported on a site called caught offside the glazers are in talks with investors in USA to sell up

Who is worse?

The Glazers for royally trashing the club and not giving a flying feck

Or Jim Radcliffe, for giving the fans hope that they would get rid of their owners who have been royally trashing the club and not giving a flying feck. And then not actually doing anything about it

He met the glazers in person who said they weren't selling. What do you want?

This Ratcliffe fella likes ringing door bells to tell people how much money he has. Why doesn't he go away and start his own club with all that money.

This Ratcliffe guy seems all over the place.

OR perhaps he's stating "the deal is too much for me to consider. Kindly lower the offer"

People like that don't make public statements for any reason.
