Sir Jim Ratcliffe: I want to buy Manchester United | Will make a bid for the club [Telegraph]

Gary is team Ratcliffe.

We all agree. But I highly doubt wall street bankers care if they are popular with fans if they get their dividends and a big profit when the club is eventually sold.

Ratcliffe is the ideal owner, but its hard to imagine he actually gets the deal done ahead of yet more American investors.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has pushed himself to the front of the queue in the battle to buy #mufc. There is growing confidence the Glazer family are finally ready to sell control of the club in the face of mounting pressure from fans.

Despite the imminent Casemiro signing, this is much bigger on all scales than any transfer we will make this summer. Take nothing away, I’m happy with the signing of Casemiro and us trying to get Antony from Ajax too but I just feel it’s papering over the cracks. This is the one I really fecking hope happens!

But literally everybody knew it was rumbling on in the background. It’s like saying the war in Ukraine isn’t happening because it isn’t dominating the news cycle any more.
Alright man strong convo
Point was it isn’t played out in public eye which we’ve agreed.

Yep- if they sell in the next 10 years it will be just after a serious title challenge or a major cup, when positivity at the club is at its highest. No way I can see them selling at one of your lowest points since they took over. They’re businessmen first and foremost.
Yep. The only if is there’s an investment that comes along with bigger returns (or the same) and less attention so it’s less of a headache

It was 2.5, with 1.75 in investments into the club over an unspecified period of time. Their debt was different than ours. I think they'll have to let go at a reasonable valuation. Somewhere between 3.5 and 4.
I hope your right

Is there anything Jim can do to put pressure on them to sell? We require more than passive interest right now.

If they even start to dream of doing a Farcelona on us, show them why there's a pitchfork on the crest.

Feels like there may be blood in the water. We need to keep the pressure up on the Glazers, keep them in the newscycle etc.

Does anyone have suggestions for those of us not close enough to regularly attend matches / protests?

Sir Jim doesn’t want to run the club for profit. He is nearly 70 and wants to set up a legacy. He has said he knows how important the club is to the city.
Hope we don’t lose momentum because of a few last minute signings.

Contact the sponsors. Say that you are boycotting their products until the club is sold to fit and proper ownership I.e. Sir Jim Ratcliffe

This is really surprising (as in I didn't think they were that stupid) - I thought they want no drama on Monday and went all in on getting Casemeiro signed to make it look like they do something and then when the heat calms they do this on the sly

Instead they are doing it whilst knowing people are ready to march and cause a scene

That is obviously what they're hoping, but you'd like to think most are beyond getting distracted so easily this time.

The fact they're always so quick to do something as soon as the pressure is on is a good sign to me, they're clearly quickly influenced by the mood of the fans, and feel they need to react, so it'll be interesting to see what happens if it's sustained properly this time.

The Glazers look like they’re floundering, but they’ll hold on to the bitter end. I doubt even Radcliffe offering £5b would make them flinch. I hope I’m wrong. I also hope Radcliffe is serious.

I mean they've taken out whatever they put in and more. Why would they refuse £5b?

It's an absolute travesty that these cnuts could walk away with that much money.

£5bn is insane and won’t ever happen. There’s not enough profit, assets, or growth to justify it. One can look at acquisitions historically and estimate what the true valuation should be, and I doubt it would be anywhere near that.
The NFL Broncos just sold for $4.65B. And they're nothing special as a brand. Have a couple Super Bowls but they're not an iconic franchise like Manchester United. As a brand they are unrivaled and that will probably be more and more true going forward because I think the Premier League is a bit undervalued. It's a tougher league on the owners due to no profit sharing and cap like the NFL has, but this sport is truly the world sport and I think estimates on its value rising are wise.

Also team ownership in the world's yacht club is partially prick measurement. If you're the billionaire in the room who owns MU you're a porn star. Imagine saying you're the owner of x/y/z run of the mill NFL team vs being able to say you own the world's biggest sports brand. Of course owning Chelsea doesn't count since they would require vagina measurements but for the rest it applies.

I think the Glazers want a minority owner who funds their BS while he waits patiently in the wings and allows them to exit with a good team. But what they're going to get are big time offers that undermine the solidarity among the siblings and leads to them cashing out.

So right now Sir Jim has positioned himself in the corner where the yacht club will be smelling blood in the water and he's the hometown kid everyone is rooting for. It will probably be bids, so the question is how much does he want it.

feck that.We need need to keep this front and center in the news, not just the back pages.Pound the sponsors on the socials as others have said.Ramp it up 'til they break.

Big question is if the fans would start a serious protest again. For some reason I doubt it
If the Glazers start selling future profits for immediate cash? Maybe I'm being naive, but that feels like a line crossed, especially after Barcelona premiered to the world what a shit show this path is

I cannot see fans bowing to this. The fans reaction to the ESL last year would hopefully be timid compare to the outrage over this
The club have denied this story. The Times seem to be doing PR work for Ratcliffe which I’m not against as I want the Glazers gone but it’s interesting to see what power money brings. Sky and the times have suddenly been relentless the last few weeks about the Glazer ownership - this is all part of a plan to force them out.

So apparently only Joel wants to remain - surely targeting each glazer individually and offering them a wad of cash for their shares is the way to go in order to get a controlling stake? Even do a deal where you guarantee he stays on the board as vice chair or something if they don’t won’t to feck him over too much.

It's a good point that the article is a bit misleading, making it sound like the Glazers are actively pursuing this path instead of the idea being floated to them.

I don't really know how the Glazers are set up, would it be possible to buy them out one by one? Isn't there a big discrepancy between the shares and the control each Glazer has? Joel having way more control than the number of his shares would suggest and so on. Surely that would make an approach targeting them individually tricky

If Joel 'Martial is the next Ronaldo' Glazer needs a little push, I'm sure our fanbase can oblige.

The fact some of the parasitic kids want to get out is great and somewhat ironic, since divide and conquer is a strategy the Glazers have used on the fans but hopefully this time it's their turn to be divided.

Not sure. I did read something about how if one sells the voting rights are scattered proportionately amongst the others but that seems crazy how that could be done. You’d think one of them could just sell their voting right shares should they wish.
