Sir Alex Ferguson rules out Manchester United signings in January

Think it's still more likely Nani won't be sold tbh.

Really the ball's in his court as the message has been delivered now. Needs to sort out his attitude.

I have no problem with this. Better to improve the squad in the summer. All I'd like for January is for Nani and Anderson to regain fitness and form. If that happens and they are not replaced on the treatment table, I can't see us not winning the league.

Of course it's better to improve the squad in the summer, but the problem is we haven't done it (improved our midfield, precisely) for 66 months.

Seeing a bit too much of this for my liking. Confidence is great and all, but last season we dropped something like an 8 point lead over the course of just a few games, with almost all our players available. We're definitely not at the 'can't see us not winning' stage yet.

I agree with the point about January, though. Nani and Anderson fit (and hopefully firing) would be perfect.

Problem is that those players who would really improve us are not really available in January

Vidic/Evra/Saha even Dong

I am not surprised by these comments as it's typical Fergie who will then sign someone out of the blue.

Youngsters fair enough. I suppose I'm coming from an established player signing. I don't expect us to sign a player to slide into the starting eleven.

Any player is available if you offer enough money, the prices just might be a bit steeper. We don't need to shop at the top end of the market to find massive improvements to the squad.

We probably wont bring anyone in in Jan but never listen to Fergie when it comes to transfers I thought that was common knowledge.

Exactly.

If Fergie says Rooney is a doubt to play, then expect to see Rooney play. If Fergie says we aren't buying a midfielder, then maybe we are doing exactly that.

If he really isn't going to do any shopping, then he usually just moves on to the next question rather than passing comment. He certainly isn't going to advertise his interest unless he's tapping someone up.

Can you imagine what the Caf will be like the day we finally do buy a top class midfielder?

...can you imagine what it'd be like if he flopped?

That would be some seriously twisted shit.

Our last 10 CM buys*:

Powell
Kagawa
Scholes
Pogba
Anderson
Hargreaves
Possebon
Carrick
N'Galula
Miller

*According to http://www.transferleague.co.uk/premiership-transfers/manchester-united-transfers.html

The last proven one, aside from Scholes who doesn't really count was Hargreaves 5 years ago

Or if we sign one and he can't get in the team past Anderson and Cleverley who do a Van Persie and break their injury jinx.

Obviously we are in need of a midfielder but I'm glad it won't be in January, it's the wrong time to buy and we're better waiting until the Summer when we know which of our oldies/sickies will/won't be here.

If we keep Nani and don't sign anyone then that'll do me.

We need a midfielder, although I can't see us doing it in January. Realistically we would need someone who is not cup tied in Europe, so that rules out the likes of Wanyama (although he is allegedly a massive Chelsea fan). There aren't really many options. James McCarthy I think would be good but would cost too much.

Why is it the wrong to buy, if the right players comes available at the right price then we should go for it, if not then yes wait until the summer.

Over the last couple of years we've experienced an above average number of injuries to our squad so i'm not totally against the idea of adding to the squad in Jan.

I personally believe we need two quality midfielders in the squad, but assimilating them in January would be disruptive I believe. Not to mention that we need to wait until the summer for some midfielders to move on in Giggs, Scholes and Fletcher.

Frankly, what I'd hate to see in January is the annual winter announcement that Ryan Giggs has signed a one-year extension.

So if the gossip is true and Wesley Schjeider is unhappy at Inter and wants to be sold and would not be adverse to United you are going to tell me, SAF, that you would not make a buy in January?

Pull the other one, Sir.

We have Kagawagawa though. The Sneijder ship has gone long ago, though I would be happy if we sign him.

I'm putting money on Fergie buying someone in January. Never believe Fergie at these things.

Didn't he say we weren't signing anybody before we got Diouf?

Obviously that didn't work out great for us, but I'm just going to ignore that.

I'm sure we'll sign someone, be it in a 18 year old form and then loaning him back to the original club or a first team-signing.

What about Strootman, rumours have cooled down.

If I'm not mistaken, he wouldn't be cup tied for us.

No New Signings!!

Sir Alex Ferguson has ruled out making any significant purchases during next month's transfer window.

Whilst Manchester United tend to stay out of the mid-winter scramble for new players, it is not entirely unknown for Ferguson to bolster his squad. Henrik Larsson is one player who springs to mind, whilst Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra both arrived in January.

However, despite fresh rumours linking the Red Devils with Everton full-back Leighton Baines, Ferguson told United Review: "Don't hold your breath waiting for Manchester United to jump through the transfer window when it opens next week."

He went on: "If you believed everything you read we would have the biggest squad in Europe, not to mention becoming bankrupt.

"It's been open season to link us with a stack of players, admittedly some very good ones, but it just isn't going to happen.

"You can never say never in football because you don't know who might become available, but speaking generally, I am not looking to do any serious business in January.

"I don't have to because I am more than satisfied with the players I have in my squad, a group as good as I have had in my time at Old Trafford."

Don't hold your breath for us to jump into the window when it opens = Deadline day deals.

I am not looking to do any serious business in January = No marquee signings, but still signings none the less.

You can never say never in football = Everything I'm about to say may well end up being false.

It's on.

He as once again reiterated that it will be very unlikely of any signings in the January window. Also saying that the players he would like are cup tied.

The End.

 You can't win . Ignore SAF but believe in everything The Sun and Star tell you.
