Some people want the club to sell him and Pogba in the same summer. Madness.
Tghink it would be hard to get a team to pay his wages which I've read are £375,000 per week. Not sure how accurate this is. But I think if we could sell him I think we would get at least £50 to add to the kitty then give Henderson a chance with Romero as a decent back up.
I don't think we should sell him, I also don't see who would pay his crazy wages, and he clearly seems happy and settled here, yeah the money I'm sure helps, but I think he likes the club, so it all seems a bit of a non-starter to me.

I would yes - 1) we have Henderson ready to come in - yes a slight downgrade, but hey 2) It will mean we continue to get our wage budget back under control and 3) funds for signing players
I would never have wanted to sell him in the past - the guy has saved us so many times. But we have Henderson now - and this isn't the De Gea of old, he's still not at his best.

I'd agree with a sale, for strategic reasons, though I might be biased by my preference for a different style of keeper. I prefer those that control their area better, rather than invite pressure and rely on admittedly excellent shot stopping. DDG won't be here forever. Strategically, selling him and Pogba would help finance our rebuild and give us a better squad for the next few years. Bring Hendo home. Grealish and Sancho. Maybe more. I almost find myself wishing a keeper injury (nothing serious, mind) in a big team so they're forced to splash out.
Why not? Paul has not played all season and DDG has been ordinary all season. (and we could use a better "ball-playing"/sweeper 'keeper)

I agree with this. People are getting carried away.
Yes. Without him, Alexis and Pogba the team will be much more less salary sensitive. Liverpool, Atletico Madrid, Bayern/Borussia is a great example how teams can play well/have success and not make such salary expenses. If we keep Ole and continue developing our young players, we will not need those kind of players, it will be like the old days.

You lot are insane. The man is a legend. His top level is better than anything we can hope for and at 29, you would be crazy to write him off.
We should be careful with selling de Gea. The second best shot stopper of all time is not something easy to find.

The time to sell him may have passed. We should have had enough balls to sell him before renewing his contract, but with the new salary - nobody is going to pay up for him.
Unfortunately, De Gea is not what he used to be and for our best squad we do need a new, better keeper, but I don't see him going anywhere anytime soon due to the situation we put ourselves in.

3. Neuer - Bayern
4. Ter Stegen - Barcelona

There are many more up-and-coming ones who will be better than De Gea in the next 1-2 years. De Gea used to be one of the best shot-stoppers (was never all-around best) but he's made enough horrible mistakes in the past year to notice that not everything is going well.
Easily better than DDG, they are not. Every keeper makes mistakes and DDG has made his fair share, but it's out of the ordinary for him because his best football was such a high level. United have their GK situation taken care of for the next 3 years with DDG and potentially Dean Henderson who has had a very promising start in his PL career, but it's another couple steps up when playing for United with or without CLs football.

None of us are fortune-tellers here. We watch the games and form opinions. Then we share those opinions. You don't have to agree. Just like I disagree that Ole is a mediocre manager, but totally respect your right to have such opinion.
Dean Henderson is indeed a very promising talent that we are fortunate to have. He did make some statements at the beginning of the season that makes me wonder, however - how long is he willing to wait and be on loan? Seems very ambitious and seems to think he should be given a chance sooner rather than later.

Henderson wouldn't have signed his contract then, knowing the club had a option year that overlaps with DDG. It's not as if he's not playing week in, week out either. He's understanding the PL, understanding what it will be like to have expectations and to sustain and improve his qualities year over year. Sheffield United is a good place for him for a couple of years, then when the game is expanded (Sheffield United are a very defensive team but very good shape and ability to nick goals) and pressure is high to perform every single time while at Manchester United, then hopefully he'll "seamlessly" fit it if given that chance.
I hope you are right and he has the patience/foresight to do exactly that. Like the guy a lot.
The club already misses a huge amount of money due to lack of CL. If both of them leave, shirt sales will be waaaay down.

United, DDG, and Henderson will be fine. Let's see summer 2021 and let it play out. United only have themselves to blame for DDG's wages and or contract length. If push comes to shove, United would probably appoint Henderson as their #1 then allow DDG to go on loan while paying some of his wages to allow DDG to play somewhere else. If that's the case, one would image that Henderson just improved leaps and bounds while DDG has normalized and regressed to a point where he's not the clear #1 at the club. But then you'd have to see how Romero reacts to this and maybe he might not like being bypassed by Henderson, but not sure how Romero would react if/when DDG's #1 position is seriously and clearly in doubt.

One thing that was a bit confusing, to be honest, was the purchase of Nathan Bishop. Why do we need him with Henderson and De Gea and Romero? Is bishop ok to grow into our next Romero? Are we hedging the risk in case something unexpected happens? Did we just get a great deal and is he more of a financial investment?
Lee Grant is injured, so Bishop is making the numbers on the senior team and playing a role in training. Signed for 2 and half years, so maybe he's going to be third choice? Romero is signed through June 2021 with a club option for a further year.
Depends what we can get for him. If we can get £40 million+ then sell. We have 2 excellent goalkeepers to come in Romero and Henderson. If we dont Henderson will end up at the likes of a Chelsea and we will kick ourselves 2/3 years on from now. If we can get £40 million + then let De Gea go, put Henderson out on loan again next season with the promise he becomes our number 1 the season after.
If we can get £100 million + for the both, and with the other usual £150 million that would be one hell of a warchest to bring in the likes of Sancho, Grealish/Maddison and a decent striker.
De Gea is 29, still quite young for a keeper, and he’s a club legend (IMO). I don’t think we should be quick to get rid of someone like that for someone that is unproven at the highest level. I mean how good even is Henderson? I’ve hardly watched Sheffield Utd play. He seems to be rated but not like how De Gea was coming through....

This would be ideal but Henderson wants first team football. He should stay on loan if he loves the club, keepers have famously long careers. If I were him, looking at my club, I would wait it out for a season and come back to a storied timeline when the team is challenging in 2022 season.
Edit : though, we owe DDG one more title, the man kept us relevant through sheer willpower for several years after Ferguson. He will have served us for 10 years next season. And aside from that Madrid move I don’t think he ever really wanted to be elsewhere.

Ideally I would like to see Henderson as De Gea's understudy for the next season with a promise to compete for the #1 spot the following year as De Gea comes to the end of his contract. As the understudy, he will still play 15+ games, the following year he will compete with De Gea for #1 spot and the next year he will be #1 when De Gea's contract ends. But again, it will depend on Henderson's decision. If he is unwilling to do that, we can stiil leave him on loan to a PL team for 1-2 years.
So now that our squad is looking better for the future. What do we do? Oh right, sell De Gea, the only senior ManUnited player We can rely up on. It doesn't make sense. If you're all that concerned about his wages, sell Sanchez first. We get 60-70m off him and guess how much We will spend for his replacement?

It’s clear that there is a limit in our financial resources, and if selling DDG would pay for a DM, why not when we have Henderson? Likewise, if the sale of Pogba allows a Sancho and Odegaard/Grealish, we would be downright stupid not to do so. Our existing budget would then go towards a striker and centreback. That would challenge for the top 2 position in the league for sure.

That's quite impressive for Henderson. I know De Gea wasn't that good in recent year, but still, a 22 year old having more clean sheets and less goal conceded in similar no. of games than an experience De Gea, who is on 375k per week, is quite impressive.
I agree. Thats why although De Gea going would be a big miss, the likes of Henderson could cover that hole, a proven very good premier goalkeeper. It wouldnt be like the inbetween years of Schmeichel and VDS.
