Should we consider selling Pogba?

Every loss this season could be attributed to him being in the team. Ole simply has to ditch him now. He can not play in the same team as Bruno. He can be a really amazing squad player who comes on for Bruno in the last 20 minutes of games when Bruno is exhausted, when we need fresh legs.

It's not really his fault - we never built a team around him which is basically what you have to do to get the best out of him. But yeah, I'd be happy to see him go at this point.

Of course what we really need is a football plan.

We need to recoup an amount that doesn't undermine us as a club (well any further). Challenge is that we still need balance in midfield and would have to bring someone in, hard to do in Jan.

I’m not sure what else managers could do with him, he’s got Fred and McTominay doing the dirty work, even Bruno. Pogba’s issue isn’t who is around him, his speed of thought and speed of transition isn’t quick enough. We have to stop making excuses for him. He needs to buck up or move on

All these posts/comments/pundits with should Pogba be sold comments...it's as if he is going to suffer massively or something..

He'll move to a top team, on top money, most likely with better weather, and no doubt play well and win trophies. He isn't a player that is holding back Manchester United, it's the club that is all over the place, and in recent seasons when players do leave, shock horror, they do well at their new clubs!

Our big problem is that without Matic we've got no-one who can pass through the press. De Gea can't do it, the full-backs can't do it, the centre-backs already have a striker on top of them anyway... so unless Matic plays, we just can't get out of our own half.

If Pogba wants to go, we should aim to get 70 million for him and sign a Thiago/Jorginho-type player. The midfield would look so much more balanced then.
70 million? We'd look like complete mugs letting a star of Paul's calibre go for 70 million!

Hazard, a player who is inferior, older and less marketable went for 115 million + bouses... in his last year of contract.

Not to mention there's no way we would replace PP, simply because there's no one else like him. Unique, brilliant skillset.

Can't see anyone offering actual money for him. Although swap deals are very rare I think that is something we should be looking at. The ego of Pogba, Raiola and Woodward wouldn't entertain bids of around 30/40 million which is closer to his true value. Madrid and Barca wouldn't touch him, doubt Juve will either. His options are very limited and I think he knows it.

I wouldn't get picky with the amount offered. He may have the talent to be worth 100m plus, but he is not a 100m player. I'd take 40m and run. I would also entertain a swap deal. Not sure who would be involved in that though...

Posted about this before:

Long story shor: It's a psychological thing.

It's a combination of him thinking he's better than he is + Woodward paying him as such.

In any field, when you overpay someone, one of two things happens:

1. if they're a 'bad' person, they tend to get arrogant (this is just the main result; there are a myriad of others that literally would take a novella-long post to include)
2. if they're a 'good' person, they 'try to do more' (AKA 'i feel i'm being paid too much, i need to do X extra; when this doesn't come off, the otherwise good-hearted subject runs into 'i'm being paid 290k/w, what's going wrong?')

Every human behavioral aspect lies on a spectrum (AKA it's a variant mix of properties)

Pogba's "problem"/'The Problem with Pogba' is really a Woodward effect (= improperly overpaying Pogba, leading to various side-effects)

Who the feck cares about Pogba's future outside United ? He can go to win the treble as far as I care. He has been a flop here and a massive tactical headache for managers. It's not working. Sell and move on.

At this point, who's buying?
Romano has said that Juve wanted him back this summer but couldn't afford him. I don't see how they could afford him next season either but the interest is clearly there.

At this point, who's buying?
Real, Bayern, City, Juve, PSG.

The only powerhouse clubs which wouldn't be interested are Liverpool (Klopp's midfielders are craftsmen, not artists) and Barcelona (they're bankrupt).

As @Tibs already pointed out, have no worries about Paul's future if we end up being fools and sell him. He'll only sign for a team challenging for all trophies available.

Yeah I agree he has really deteriorated in the last 18 months and probabaly beyond saving.

But those two holding aren't really that good. He needed a Kante behind him. But too late now.

Appalling....the team left him alone out there tonight.

Diamond is clearly the right tactical setup for us but it won't work if Paul gets no positional support, no one picking up on his playmaking cues.

As soon as the ball got to PP, you could see the creative the spark, the initiative, the fear among Arsenal players backing off, but he's only one man.

The easiest thing to do right now is blame Paul for the loss, but the truth is this is entirely on Ole's clueless management, and the rest of the team letting Paul down.

I hope this is a wum.

When the ball got to PP the only one who looked scared was him. The guy was pedestrian, slowed the play down and did very little of note.

I have never seen PP perform in a United shirt even close to the levels he did at Juve. Should be sold.

it’s the same as De Gea for me.
DDG has been in fine form of late and has served the club so well, but he’s never worth the wages he’s on and we had a chance to sell him for big money not long ago.

just bad decision making meaning we have pretty much the highest cost and lowest value team and wage bill in the league.

This club is going nowhere while Woodward is still here with or without ole

There’s no shame in him not doing it at United, better players than him have tried and failed. Veron for one.
he may very well be brilliant in Spain, Italy or France where the competition is less intense and the game is slower.

The problem with pogba is no different to the issue we had with di maria under van gaal, being expected to put in a defensive shift is not their strengths but that's what our manager's naively asked of them. If that was di maria tracking back and making that takle on bellerin it probably would have had to same result of conceding a penalty, same if it was neymar attempting the tackle, these players are not the type of players you want around your own penalty area.

To me the blueprint to using pogba is exactly how di maria was used at madrid in midfield 3 and pogba was pretty much used very similarly to this with Juventus..

Our only good performances this year have been with pogba coming from the bench. I can't believe he's still even in consideration to start

Then what?

What's the plan after that? Even if we sell him for £200m - what will happen? Sign Sancho? Then turn him into a worse player as we do with many others?

It's a deadly combination for a Premier League footballer, especially when combined with poor decision making...

We'll take him on loan if you'll pay his wages. He needs to get his confidence back and we need somdone who can kick a ball without literally falling over.

This. He can come on when we are winnging four nil. Do his fancy tricks then.

Juve will no doubt be waiting for Pogba to run down his contract and take him on a free transfer in 18 months time.

Sancho is much better in what he does than Pogba is in what he does. Pogba is not a 90 million pound MF. No MF is. He is a 40 million pound MF.

Granted sancho is not worth 120 million either.

But Sancho would look much better in this role than Pogba has looked in his role since he came four years ago.

Personally when i see Pogbas name in the team against a decent team i worry straight away.

I bet if he starts against the Turkish team he may play well, but that is only because he is playing poor opposition. You just cannot dependent on him against good teams. In fact he is a liability.

I know i am raising the bar high, but look at Scholes in his prime. One twos. One touch passing. A minimum of 10 goals a season in his prime. Controlling the play. Up the tempo when we need a goal. Control the game when we are winning. Exceptional at retaining the ball under pressure.

Pogba then takes eight touches of the ball. Cannot retain the ball under pressure. Kills attacks. And cannot defend.

Paul Pogba is justin Bieber when scholes was Ludwig Van Bloody Beethoven.

I have disliked and wanted Pogba gone for ages, but that was down to his attitude, lack of effort whilst being paid a fortune to do something most of us would kill to do and the constant flirting and demands to get a move.
I had never doubted his talent and ability and assumed he'd do well at his next club. Now Im not so sure, he just doesnt seem as sharp as he was before even though he should be in his prime.
I just cant see us being able to sell

Is this satire?

I actually can't wait until Pogba leaves the club he's taking the space of a player who might actually contribute something.

i do not think we can sell him.

the teams that would want him cant afford the fee or wages and the teams that can afford the fee and wages dont want them

The club made a massive error pricing him at 150m when there was a sniff of interest from Madrid. Everyone bar our board and some of our deluded support knew what a laugh that was. I said it then and it hasn't changed.

We should have and could have broke even on this transfer but instead we were once again caught with an ineffective board and a manager who doesn't have it in him to make the hard decision to sell.

I love Pogba - he's probably the signing I've been most excited about at United, that I can remember. Undoubtedly capable of being one of the best in the world on his day, but can't even remember when the last time he had a really good game for us. I always defended him, even when he batted his eyelids at Zidane and Real but I'm done now. I don't see what he offers - at least consistently. I think the signing of Bruno really showed him up. It showed us what Pogba should have done but has failed to do.

I don't think we should necessarily sell him - who would buy him now anyway. But he's definitely benched for me for a while until he plays his was back in to the team.

I could not agree more with you and Pogba is nowhere near to Scholes as a player...Please ship Pogba out a.s.a.p...

I would be happy to get 40m for him. We over paid for him and while we have gotten some great matches from Pogba, he has been very inconsistent. I think that he would be best headed back to Juve and United poaching a player off of that Juve roster. Bentancur is a player that I feel would fit with our current midfield set up at United

Pogba if used sparingly is still a good option. We wont get what we want for him in current climate so no point in selling him. He will leave for free in 2022.

I would wonder how has need and money to buy Pogba. I would rather expect a Sanchez repeat: a loan that continues to cost United money, but provides the new club a safe trial period and thus sets up a permanent move away.
Then what?

Well, the obvious? Decide on a preferred tactic, put players in the spots available, see what's missing, and go for those types? That's not necessarily been United's strong suit of late, but it makes more sense than keeping someone on this kind of wages who has no real role in the manager's setup.

Such a crap, overrated footballer, and one lacking even basic football intelligence.

What makes Pogba world class? His stupid Cruyff turns in the middle of the pitch?

Hopefully PSG are stupid enough to offer big money for him so that we can ship him off sooner rather than later. The Pogba problem is only resolved the day he leaves this club, and honestly I can't wait for that day. I'm tired of all the excuses made for him and his half-arsed performances. Just get rid ffs.
