Should we change to a 4-3-3 if we get Di Maria?

Apparently Di Maria said he's playing on the left side of a midfield 3 for Manchester United. That likely makes it a 4-1-2-3 like Real Madrid were playing.

Di Maria just said he thinks he will play in left of cental midfield. He is better there, but who will play on the left wing? So I assume there is not left Winger, just a left wing-back.

I think we will stick with 3-5-2. I don't know why we have to make it difficult for ourselves just to please Rooney or RVP.

Possibly but the pressure on Van Gaal to get results will still increase due to this game, because it despite it not being the first team it was a shocking performance. Confidence in the formation itself is also going to decrease you would think - you can see it on the Caf for instance, with lots of posters blaming the result on Van Gaal's 3-5-2.

It's not something I agree with but if the players start to feel uncomfortable and question it then I imagine Van Gaal might decide the time isn't right to try and implement such a dramatic change. In the interests of immediate results I could see him switching to a familiar back four, just to make it easier for the players.
 
Left of a midfield 3? Either it's a diamond or Mata is gonna be dropped. Hope that's not true, those two could be so good together, add Januzaj and that attack has so much going for it.
 
Let's say we do play a 4-1-2-3, who's the holding 1 in that system? I know we have Carrick but would he really be able to hold on his own?

Well if it's with ADM and Herrera then I don't see an issue. Both work hard for the team. I think Carrick would do fine, the other two can actually be box to box and let him mop up and start the attack. Once you go beyond that though it gets tough because no one else has the right mix of energy, skill and workrate.
