That plus a nice little external drive connected via USB and bam, you can watch whatever you've downloaded on your telly... unless your TV is one of them smart-TVs, that's a damn handy function.

I've only had a problem with mkv. I mostly use it to watch stuff from my PC rather than external HDD but I do do both.
BluRay. Big big plus. There isn't a cheap BluRay player out there. PS3 is very good for that.

You can find multi-region ones for £70(PS3 can't do that, but shouldn't bother those who don't buy Criterion anyway) and well you can get branded ones for around £60 nowadays.....Tesco had a LG one for £50 not too long ago.

It can't play MKV, it doesn't understand the wrapper. Nothing specific about MKV is useful to me in any case, I always convert them into VOBs, which also means that when streaming from the PC, the PC just sends it to the PS3, it doesn't have to transcode or remux it.
I don't see why anyone would buy a 360 over it anymore, especially when the price goes down even more in August. It's such a superior machine, not just gaming wise, and pretty much all big games come out on both consoles now anyway.

Yeah iv'e had it, no way of fixing it yourself, unless your have the right tools and are very precise with a solder gun.
Company called PS-Pros did mine for £70. They collect it on the day you book it, repair it and ship it back next day. So got back within 3 days.
I agree with this. I have both. My 360 only gets a run out for exclusives. Everything else I play on the PS3.
This is as good a place to ask as any; do you know of a free converter for ogm files? I've recently downloaded some TV series and they're all in avi apart from 2 episodes in the ogm format which the PS3 doesn't recognise and I can't find a free converter anywhere, all the ones I've found when I install them they say it's a trial and will only convert 1 minute of video which is useless.

I have noticed that happening with other people on my Friends list before. Not sure why it occurs. My connection was odd last night. It wouldn't allow me to play COD4 online. I went into the MP and all of the various game modes were grayed out. It wouldn't allow me to select any of them. Checked this morning and it's fine again. Weird.Cheers mate, I'll try that tonight.

It's not superior gaming wise at all. They are more or less on a par.
It depends what you are going to use it for woody. If it's pure gaming, then you need to simply pick the system which has the 1st party games you want to play more (assuming you don't already own a 360). If you already own a 360, then it's a matter of whether those couple of big hitters that are exclusive are worth it and whether or not you want to use the blu-ray player enough to justify it. Oh and as Weaste says, wait for the price drop.

I was playing Bad Company 2 with Zarlak. First time I've been online with that game in about 8 months. There are new maps, which left me running around in circles for about 15 minutes unable to find anyone to shoot at.

I have both. There is nothing between them as far as games are concerned. I prefer the xbox controller for most games except fighting games so get most on the xbox.
Live pisses all over PSN but you have to pay for it and the Blu Ray for me is a huge selling point for the Ps3.

Not really, no, but then it's mainly the 1st parties up to now that have pushed it, and Microsoft don't really have much in those terms. Lets see what Frostbite 2 can push. RSX is horrible for transparencies also.
