Should ETH go full strength in the Europa or prioritise training time and freshness?

I don't know, will ETH go full strength in the Europa or prioritise training time and freshness?

Well, there's only one way to find out, let's wait until the season starts and then we'll know.

Sassy. I changed the title. That's the level of your impact. You change the world.

Well it probably provides us with our best chance of silverware this season and it offers a direct route into the Champions League. So why wouldn't we take it seriously?

The priority for me is developing a cohesive unit with fundamentals he sets, with that in mind every game is an opportunity to progress and define the team. There will be mistakes and false dawns, if 6 months in we're still in some tournaments we could use our more consistent players and hope for the best.

This.

if the highest priority is to win the EL, then a manager has to take the path of least resistance when coaching the players. Then he will have to compromise his philosophy since its still foreign to the players -- just like what Rangnick did. Then people criticised him for getting the players to play a pressing game.

If United fans/management want the EL as priority then don't be surprised if ETH's style of playing ain't that different to the past. ETH's philosophy is very alien to the past few managers.

What he needs is time to imprint his philosophy into the team and the individual players. But if silverware is the 1st priority next season then I doubt if we will actually see a ETH philosophy in his 3/4yrs at United..

This might be our best way to secure CL next season, top four will be hard anyways so I don't think we can be so arrogant to play a youth team in this competition.

I think the new format makes it substantially harder (assuming you actually want to win the tournament) to play all second choice and youth players in the group stage. Not only is the pool of group stage teams stronger than before, because a lot of the weaker teams are now in the conference league, but you're highly incentivized to win the group, as that gets you a bye into the R16 whereas finishing second in the group means you not only have to play in the playoff round but its against one of the eight teams dropping down from the CL. Last year that included Barcelona, RBL, Porto, BVB, Atalanta, and Sevilla. Essentially, finish 2nd in the group and not only do you have to play two extra games during a busy time in February/March but its likely to be a difficult tie.

I cannot imagine what the schedule will look like for both the domestic league and European schedules in view of the Qatar WC.

Just so dumb to have a WC in the middle of a domestic league season. Oil money talks.

Yup, its going to be an epic clusterf*ck of a season and lots of players are going to get hurt.

Tactics, fitness and mentality should be focus. The challenge for trophies will follow once we get on top of this.
Can't have players run out there not giving a damn. Give them a job to do, get them fit and hungry again then we can talk about trophies.

This.

If you want silverware in his 1st season then he has to compromise and go the path of low resistance in terms of tactics and coaching.

Have to treat it like Mou did - if it's the most likely way into the CL, you have to play full strength later rounds. If we're sat in 3rd and looking good in the league, I'd happily see ETH play good teams in the EL but rest key players.

I certainly wouldnt play Ronaldo until the latter stages, if we get there. I think it's a chance to put some younger players to the test. If the past is anything to go off though we will go full strength in the EL and League and probably burn out.

It's no an either or

Our squad should be strong enough to get us through the group stages with a lot of rotation.

It's time to get serious when the knock outs come about (depending on the draw) and we have to expect a challenge.

For me, its 100% go all out to win it.
What else are we going to win?
The 4th place trophy, if we're lucky?

I know some people say its a 2nd tier trophy, but the reality is, our level is now a 2nd tier club in Europe.
All being said and done, to old timers such as myself, it's the UEFA Cup, and definitely worth winning.

Of course he should go full strength in this and the Carabao cup, this is our level like it or lump it.

I find it amazing how many United fans believe this is a competition below us.

That’ll do. I want our players to care about the shirt again. That’s a start for me. Trophies come with the process.

We need a trophy so I hope we try to win this. We’re a Europa level club at the moment, we have no reason to bin it off.

Damn, I just wanted to post something similar with more emphasis placed on the league campaign.
Anyway unless we somehow find ourselves in the midst of a title race i think we should go in for the kill in europa specially considering that the first few knockout rounds must be relatively easy.
It's paramount to our future success that we win something, anything so hopefully we could be build on it.
Europa could be just that.

Europa League will probably be our best route into the Champions League. With everyone around us improving in the league it's going to be a struggle to get top 6 never mind top 4.

I think in the early stages against the weaker teams we should blood more of the young players but as we get further i think we have to go all out and win the Europe League. A trophy is needed at Utd and these players need to have that feeling of winning something. Winning breeds confidence . I think if Ole had got across the line in one of those finals we might have done better under him but because we did not . Confidence started to dip and then all hell let loose

Is it too much of us as fans to demand that every time the players have the opportunity to, they should give 100% regardless of whether its a dead rubber europa league group stage game or a Friday afternoon training session? As the world around us all continues to disappoint on many fronts, professional footballers should count themselves so lucky to be in the position they are. They are privileged beyond comprehension in my opinion, and should be duty bound to show how grateful they are.

I'd rather a Europa League trophy than finishing 4th. I'd even prefer it to the 2nd we had under Jose and Ole.

By the time the Europa League comes around we will have played around 24 games. So by then we will know where we stand. The group stages will be easy even with rotation.

By all means rest Ronaldo in the early rounds and see how the league goes but I think come Feb/March we may be looking at the Europa being our priority

Why it is funn?
If manager can not win EL with Man UTD he should be sacked.Next year we will be biggest club in the competition.Have some dignity.
Its still funny. He should get the team in order and get us to play in a certain way and get top 4 at least, EL is completely marginal. He shouldn't be sacked if he doesn't win EL, that's just silly.

If he can not win EL with best team in competition ,how to expect from him to win CL when will not have best team?
Glazers and Ole did you all so badly. It is Man UTD for feck sake.
