Shaqiri to Stoke city

This is why the TV money in EPL is rightfully distributed and not all of it is going to Real and Barcelona.. Let them bang 5-6 in every game when we have the best league by a mile..

Gotta say I liked the "old" Stoke more, now they are challenging Arse and the other top clubs in different way, which might bring them problems.. But the quality of the squad is obviously much higher than say 2-3 years ago.

The Tony Pulis Era of football..those were the days. Track suits and a hand me down cap.

If you look at Shaqiri's career backwards, it's a story of a boy from Stoke, who then played for Inter and then joined Bayern to win the CL

We need a thread for this.

Very good signing and would've been for anyone outside of the top 4. Wonder if he's a bit of a nob head off the field as he's been moved about a bit now despite having obvious talent.

Clearly some kind of masochist. From Basle to Stoke would be bad enough as a lifestyle move but Munich and Milan in between and he's still only 23

Not really, he will live in Cheshire and hang around with Aguero, Di Maria, Mata, Ramos and the cast of Coronation Street. It.Does.Not.Get.Much.Better.

feck sake. All the regulars at my pub will be experts on him by my shift tomorrow.

He is?! He'd be a great alternative to Schneiderlin or Schweinsteiger, dare I say it, better.

What? Seriously? He's a decent player but really?

Struggled to impress at Inter. He was far too inconsistent in games for them and was guilty of completely disappearing sometimes. Still, I'd have thought given his reputation he'd have been given a full season to prove his worth. Inter are in trouble with FFP though so I imagine they're deciding to sell him while his value is still high. Linked with Salah and Jovetic recently, could be to fund a move for one of them.

He is publicly refusing to sign a new contract and trying to force a move. Sevilla are the likely destination at the moment.

He's decent but nowhere near good enough for us.

Watched many performances from him at Inter and I never understood how highly he was rated because he's always seemed a bit thick as a footballer.

he's only 23 though and lost his way a bit. He's just a little tank with a decent shot on him and a good burst of speed. He needs to improve his decision making, but again at 23; I really think he'd be worth the gamble for any one below top 6 teams.

You mean - a guy that tactically has problems with complex systems...

He is an offensive midfielder - nobody for the center. I would not even put him on a no. 10 as he looses the ball too easy.

Shaqiri is a great player if you keep it simple. He is not as good with his dribbling skills as e.g. Robben or Ribery - but he for sure is in the class behind. His problem is his decision making - or to work in more complex systems. He worked fine in his first year at Bayern as a substitute - had the right mentality - and the only thing Heynckes wanted of him was running down the line and cross - with Mandzu or Gomez in the middle that was very often sucessful.

The last season he really just made you mad whenever he was on the pitch because of his decision making - and off the pitch his interviews in which he asked for more match time and a different role - even if you saw on the pitch that it was just not enough - did not rise the symphathy level.

I don't really want N'Zonzi, though I do like him as a player at that lower level, similar to Dembele. Not sure where he'd end up though.

With Shaqiri, it doesn't seem right going to Stoke, but then again would be good for the PL, so I hope they get him.

Shaqiri needs to play more than anything and on a squad better than Inter in Serie A nevermind warming the bench at Bayern. Not sure where his career might go since he hasn't made great choices up until now. He'll get the space he craves in the Premiership but he lacks the pace to exploit it, IMO - he is more of a quick burst sort of player over short distances. Still, he has a great left foot & no shortage of confidence.

He was always one of Bayern`s best Players when I saw him. Better than Götze or Thiago. Never understood why they did not give him more chances.

Always a touch overrated (never Bayern quality, although he should really have been good enough for Inter in their current doldrums) but still an unusually good player to be turning out for Stoke. Bit of a coup for them, potentially.

 He's the Benjamin Button of footballers.

I think he was talking about N'Zonzi.

Shaqiri is a good signing for Stoke, though. Him, Bojan, Arnautovic, those sorts of players who can produce some great flair and magic every 3 or 4 games, which is probably about right for a midtable side like Stoke.

Turned down pool for Inter iirc? Now 6 months on, close to signing for Stoke!

Inter was actually a good idea when you look at his fanbase etc. He is or was THE swiss star. Milano is only 300 or 400 km away from Basel where he comes from. Family etc. still close.

Did he bomb out at Inter?

What a strange move considering he only recently signed for Inter.

Aargh thanks. Had no idea they were that close. But yeah, taken a couple of steps backwards now in his career it seems. Still young enough to recover though.

Should be a Everton/Spurs or even Pool level player.

He's a bit of a tubster, isn't he? The chips don't lie.

Hope it doesn't go through so I can have a look on their forum whilst the six fingered wankers are having a meltdown.

Not too sure about the family reasons tbh. I think it was a good move as they are a club in a serious transition and he had the chance to go there and be a real star. He clearly didn't take his chance.

Surely it would be:

CM N'Zonzi

Shaqiri Bojan Arnautovic
Diouf

Fair play, that is one impressive front 4 for a mid-table club. Could easily challenge the Europa League contenders next season if it goes to plan.

Yeah I was only taking the piss out of Jonny Walters really. It is an impressive attack, especially when you consider Crouch, Odemwingie and Ireland with Charlie Adam in behind. They're light on defenders but with another addition or two, they could definitely challenge for Europa League. Begovic would be a fool to leave that for Chelsea imo.

Jaysus if this is "tubster".

Then i'm a fecking whale!

Bags of talent but always been glad we stayed away from him. Never seen anything to suggest he has what it takes to be consistently good at the top level.

Wouldn't be all that surprised, Inter have a tendency of giving up on players too soon and watching them flourish elsewhere. The talent is obviously there. These same question marks over his head are the same Coutinho had when he moved and now he's one of the best players in the league. Shows you what a little patience can do when dealing with an extremely talented youngster. He made the move to a club of bayern's size way too soon in his career.

Stoke are doing some great work in the market. Its about time clubs stopped wasting money on players of no ability what so ever and instead invested it in the sort of talent that gets fans off their seats. This is the sort of stuff that a thread of mine was based on not so long ago.

Sadly for them there's quite a lot to do. Honestly, they are in no position to lose Nzonzi. Shawcross, Bojan, Butland(given begovic is leaving) and Nzonzi should be the starting point of the team they are trying to build. Get Nzonzi midfielders who can actually play and he'll be even better for them. You know, the sort of mids who have a role in the side instead of Whelan like running around and giving the ball away for no real reason. Exciting times ahead for them, really like Hughes' work.
