What are your transfer predictions for this summer ? Let this thread be the definitive one. ;)

Mine as follows:

In: Thuram, Ayala, Finnan, Di Canio
Out: Blanc, Yorke, P. Neville

BTW, as an example of my prediction skills - I predicted Mexes, Nedved, and RVN a year ago. We instead ended up with Mexes' mentor and Nedved's teammate.

sounds good

What I think, not what I'd prefer:

In: Thuram, Weir and a striker (haven't got a clue who)

Out: Blanc, Irwin, Yorke, Fortune, Wallwork and VERON..

In: Thuram, Finnan, Ronaldo (Nike just does it)

Out: Irwin, Yorke, May, Fortune, Phil

Ok, I'm not so sure about Ronaldo. However, I do believe Nike will have a major vote in which players come to Old Trafford in the future. I do believe Nike forced Brazil to play Ronaldo in the 98 Final (threatening to withdraw the marketing campaign) and I think Nike will bring him to OT within 3 seasons. I actually think DiCanio will sign this summer.

In: Thuram, Finnan, Di Canio
Out: Yorke, Irwin, May, Fortune

There is still some debate as to whether or not Larry White will retire or not. I believe he will, so if he goes we may be tempted to move for Ayala or Mexes, maybe in place of Finnan, as our spending money is not endless. Finnan would be able to put pressure on Gary to get the best out of him tho. Di Canio can still do a job in that Sheringham role.

realistic:
IN: Thurham, Finnan, DiCanio.
OUT: Yorke, May, Irwin.

Thurham- classy, technical, powerful, and consistent, but will 'the price be right'.

Finnan reminds of 'Mr. Consistency', Dennis Irwin, I'd be more than satisfied with a steady ,young Dinny in the squad.

DiCanio, offers guile and imagination like an Eric, or a Teddy(look what Bergkamp is doing for the Arse), assuming Sir Alex can bring out the best in him.

OTHERS(but presently unlikely)
Carr(if fit, would really assist Becks' game and add bite to the defence)
Cisse(dreaming of course, but Cisse and RVN- stand back).
Mexes, at least to secure the deal, since it would be better to get him after some CL experience and a few France caps(prediction; a player to drive a big club ala Keano).

Question mark?, I expect both to stay but:
Veron: if he has a good world cup, and we get a decent offer for him, what would happen?
Barthez: if he had the season he just had in Monico, would we be trying to buy him now?

I agree with Raoul's prediction ie: Thuram, Ayala, PDC

But i would like for us to have more speed up front...cos currently only Giggsy has that dimension to his game...when he is injured we have some problems against stalwart defences...so i would love to see someone like Duff who could play up front as well as LW or AM although i know we have enough midfielders but IMO this is the type of player we need to complete the jigsaw...someone like Cisse with blistering pace could do as well

Hope everything turns out good for Us

I know I'll get lambasted for this, but what about Clint Mathis? He can play forward, central midfield, has played wing before, and can play the Sheringham role too. He has good speed, solid ball control, makes good passes, and shows the ability to create/finish goals. He also has tenacity in the Roy Keane mode (not as great, but you see my point). He is tireless on the pitch and backtracks as well as attacking. His cost would be around 3-4m. Not bad for a proven international. Trust me- it would be a solid investment.

Who the feck is that?
Never heard of him...where's he playing

Soccernet pointed out that Fergie has shown interests in Duff...yess...hope its not more bullshit form them

Duff, Duff, Damien Duff

Clint Mathis is an American who plays for the Metrostars. I believe he is a striker, but he has only played in the States, and that is a big hindrance. He won't play for United in this lifetime. :)

Hmmmm...his playing only in the US isn't stopping Bayern Munich from making an offer. This is apparently where he will play after the World Cup. If he's good enough to sign with them, he's good enough to play for Manchester United.

I don't think anyone at Bayern Munich has said anything about Mathis, and if this is indeed the case, it is all bullshit. They are signing Ballack in the summer, along with Deisler, so I doubt they would settle for Mathis. The guy is not European class. Not to say he isn't a good player, but we can get better - he isn't better than any of the strikers we have atm, and as Raoul has pointed out, we have enough young strikers. Di Canio would be cheaper and more effective.

IN: Nesta, Thuram, Beattie
OUT: Veron, Blanc, Irwin, Yorke, May, Johnsen

In my dreams: Shevchenko

Going to Real Madrid, who are selling Morientes to Roma, who again are selling Montella to AC Milan

In: Thuram, Finnan, [a forward]
Out: Blanc, Irwin, Yorke, May

Now I it is still unclear for the forward we will sign to replace Yorke. Someone mentioned Di Canio, but I think it's already too late to sign a forward player at the age of 34.

IN:
Poom or Sorensen; Roberto Carlos; Ayala; Nesta; Thuram (back up for Roberto carlos and centre backs); Cisse; Davids (back up for Keane); Duff (back up for Giggs); Shevchenko.
OUT:
May, Fortune, Barthez, P Neville, Irwin, Yorke, Wallwork, Blanc...

Oh, I just woke up... guess I was dreaming...

Apologies to RAOUL... only noticed the 'serious' tag. Sorry! :(
IN: Poom, Thuram, Ayala plus one forward
OUT: Barthez, Blanc, Wallwork, Yorke, P Neville (if he wants out), Fortune (don't really want him to got, but he'll have to) and Irwin.
Veron will not go unless he asks for a transfer. SAF is too headstrong to admit any mistake in signing him. He won't let the newspapers win by hounding Veron out.
Barthez hasn't been quite there all season.

In: Rustu Recber (sp?), Thuram, Ayala, Finnan, Wayne Bridge, PDC
Out: Barthez, Blanc, Johnsen, May, Irwin, Phil Nev, Veron, Yorke
Promoted: O'Shea, Stewart, Nardiello/Webber

I've stuck in a lot of if's and maybe's above. I haven't heard of a new contract being offered to Johnsen, and I'm pretty sure his being offered one was dependent on staying injury free, and he hasn't. Blanc hasn't accepted the new contract yet, and I don't expect him to.

There has been a lot of links to goalkeepers recently, but reports suggest it is actually Barthez who wants to leave. If he does, then I hope we don't get Poom, cos he ain't world class, decent maybe but not good enough.

I've stuck in Veron, even though it looks very unlikely at this stage. But Stam was sold only a few weeks into the new season, and after having signed a new long term contract, so you never know. If he did want to sell him, he'd try to get as much money for him as possible, and talk him up and hope a good WC will make up for a poor season for us. I'd sell him for the money anyway, SAF has apparently only been given £20m to spend, and Thuram would take all or most of that on his own.

And so you should be. Mia Hamm for United.

BTW, the only US player who could play for United is Santino Quaranta. I've watched all of DC United's games (being in Virginia n'all) and he's routinely the classiest player on the pitch.

IN: Thuram, Ayala, Di Canio (have to agree with Roaul)

OUT: Yorke, P. Neville, Van Der Gouw, Irwin, Wallwork, Veron (up until yesterday i would have said veron, not that i want him to leave! but i just thought that he might go due to financial reasons, i.e. to fund other transfers but after SAF battering of the daily mirror, i think not!!!!
David McDonell that cnut at the mirror was shitting his load!!)

I forgot that Raimond van der Gouw is off this summer, and Fortune may well be due to not enough games. We've still got that young american keeper, Rachubka (sp?), though I don't know if he'll ever be good enough to play a premiership match for us. Fortune leaving would be a problem, not sure who we'd get to replace him, and we haven't been linked with many left-sided wingers who are happy to be squad players. Hopefully that means it will be the youth players stepping up if he does leave.

doubt it mate... i can't see SAF selling 8 players and bringing in 6...

i reckon its more likely we'll bring in two or three and 'lose' three or four(at the most)..

C'mon...Santino is not even 18 and he couldn't make the first team for at least 2 years...and nobody said Mathis would come in and start. He would be a good squad player.

He's got more raw talent than the rest. Mathis, Beasley, Wolf, Donavon etc are all American class, Quaranta is International class. He'll be a star in a few years.

Fergie has rated Jansen for a long time. You could be spot on for this one.
:)

hmmm....not bad that sounds, but elated would be jedi master if it were cash plus duff for yorke....what think you, ttr

jedi master say:

out: yorke, wallwork, rvdg,fortune,p.neville :( , irwin :( , stewart :(
probably get around 12mil-14mil quid from these

in: thuram, finnan, duff, di Canio
probably have to spend around 17mil for thuram, 4mil for finnan, additional 3-4mil for duff, 2mil for di Canio...

that would mean we'd have an additional 5-8mil to blow, of course assuming the board do sanction the said 20mil....would very much like to hear what other jedi think of this....

My opinion would be:

in= 'none' (promote our youngster)
out= Irwin and Yorke

We could have had Jansen three years ago at a fraction of the cost we'd have to pay now - he turned us down for Crystal Palace. ;)
