Serhou Guirassy - Best goalscoring streak in the world

Also worth noting, he didn't want a transfer to the PL reportedly, the market for him was very narrow, hence the small figure Dortmund paid.
He had a release clause that was set before he improved so much, that's why he was cheap.

And I wonder about the claim that he didn't want to move to the PL, I've never seen that mentioned?

But I am aware of reports that he likes being important, so I guess that would fit in a way, that he only would move somewhere where he would be the undoubted first choice striker (which probably excludes most CL clubs).

Big fan of his. He already had everything a trop striker needs back in his Cologne days except for the necessary composure. He's ice cold now, has excellent technique and finishing, can read a game, good in the air and his hold up play is second only to Kane in the Bundesliga. Great package and if he maintains this form, he could earn a place among the best strikers in the world.

A bit offtopic but I recently stumbled across an interesting discussion in a Stuttgart forum about whether or not it makes sense to go after young striker talents because most top strikers only became top strikers in their mid-20s anyway and for a good proportion of them, this improvement was quite unexpected. There seem to be positions in which it makes sense to purchase U23 players but seemingly, the striker position isn't one of them.

He was too cheap for us to sign last year so I can kind of understand why we weren't interested, guess if he continues his form until end of season we may be interested at £90m which will make much more sense than buying him for £15m twelve months earlier.
That isn't really the case though, as we have seen with many transfers recently that involve release clauses there are high agents fees to pay on top. Similar to Haaland's transfer to Citeh.

The agents fees for Guirassy were reported to an extra 15m according to Bild plus he's on a 4 year contract at €180K per week. So the fee wasn't big but the long term cost is still high. Plus he will be 32 at the end of the contract wit minimal re-sale values, so I'm happy we didn't go for him and are looking at younger prospects.

Having said that he's having a cracking season and proving that he can be a consistent goal scorer.

I wouldn’t worry that much about resale value. Our players usually end up having next to no resale value even early into their career… what’s Hojlund’s resale value 1.5 years after we spent £72m on him, probably less than a third of that?

It’s been a long time since a player increased their resale value while playing for us.

I totally agree with this, it's obviously ideal to sign an 18 year old Rooney or Aguero if one is out there and you can, but obscenely expensive punts just aren't worth it.

I've thought for years that there is nothing wrong with just going for decent experienced pros up front whilst the market wasn't there for a long term solution.

If you get a couple of years out of them then move on to another one then it's still probably cheaper or a similar cost over a 5 or 6 year period and you will have a better player up front that whole time.
