Blocking a move to Everton because we know they are a threat to our European prospects. Says it all.

Is that true? Every semi or final we dumped him in favour of De Gea we lost?
Last season he played 17 games, won 15 and drawn 2. The semis against City, Sevilla and Chelsea we had De Gea and lost them all.

Season before he played when we got knocked out v Derby in the League Cup and Wolves in the FA Cup 6th round. No semis there.

Season before he was benched for the FA Cup final against Chelsea which we lost.

Could very easily make the argument that even if he did play we'd have probably lost because they were against good teams. Still think that we should have started him in some of them, like how we did in the Europa final. Good management from Mou there.

No wonder the players look dead on the pitch. There's probably a toxic environment brewing behind the scenes yet again, just like in Mourinho's last season.

We are cursed after too long being on top. This is our repayment for becoming the biggest English club.
Ed probably visit the team before each match for a pep talk.

He earned those matches. Terrific clean sheet record and that's an amazing win percentage last season. Shit management, in my opinion.

Lee Grant played in the Debry match didn't he?

I was joking mate

He’s worth good money to be fair. 10 million at least.

Yeah, why should we give him to Everton on a free? They been splashing the cash. They can afford to pay for him. If it was a foreign club, I would give him on a free. But premier league clubs have the money to pay.

Poor Romero, he was loyal and never kicked up a fuss. They binned him but don't want him to go anywhere. This is not how you treat people, disgusting.

Do you honestly believe the club don't want to sell him? His wife is asking for the club to terminate his contract and let him go for free.

The club know his value why should we let him go on a free?

What's the deal here? Everton want to pay a pittance or nothing at all? He's a decent keeper and I'm sure we'd let him leave for the right fee, but Everton are snide feckers when it comes to buying players off us for peanuts / selling shit players to us for astronomical amounts.

To be honest she should shut the feck up. She’s probably been living a luxury life on the back of the wages we’ve been paying Romero for the last five years. He hasn’t been playing for free.
Get to feck the club owe it to him to release him. If he wants he can buy himself out.
For a back up goalkeeper he actually plays a lot of games, 17 in fact last season.
Now he’s been relegated to third choice the dummy is out. It’s this sort of entitlement that is destroying this club.

I'd honestly say it's more the decision of not being able to move him on that's part of destroying the club. Now we have to pay full wages to a guy who prob won't feature at all. I hope he goes in January at least.

They should let him go or more preferably sell De gea on a low transfer and keep Romero as number 2. Romero staying makes me hope that De gea will be moved on when he eventually gets dropped for Henderson.

De gea isnt a goalkeeper, he is just a third post in the middle of the goal.

In a way what you're saying is probably exactly why we havent moved him. I find it hard to imagine there arent a bunch of solid clubs willing to bite our hand off to get Sergio - but with Henderson back I assume Ole or someone else doesnt feel comfortable alienating one of the two yet. Once you get rid of Sergio Ole is virtually forced to make it clear who the true no. 1 is. Now he can still act like they re both benching someone.

Feel for him.

When he’s played for us the last year or two he’s been better than De Gea has been.

People were adamant we were going to get £10 million for him, but it was never going to happen. We should have just taken a small loan fee and wages being covered.

Chances of us activating the year extension to try and get a fee next year?

It's a necessary tactical move. Unfortunately.
Its all about money with Ed. Done the same with Darmian and wasted 2 years of his career eventually letting him go for a small fee anyway.

If Everton paid a fee he would be gone

How is it part of destroying the club that we're not shipping players out for feck all? We bitch and moan about Liverpool getting rid of their dross for high fees, then we turn around and bitch and moan about not allowing fringe players to move for feck all. Bizarre. The club had every intention to allow Romero to leave for a fair fee and Everton, or anyone else for that matter, were interested in paying it.

Some fans are idiots.

Romero was the perfect no 2 for an established GK, but he’s never been good enough to be a No 1 at a top 10 PL club or good European team.

Therefore who exactly was going to pay a big fee for him?

no one is paying a £10m fee for a reserve keeper. £1-2m max, or more likely a free transfer.

would have been fine giving him a free to a European club, but definitely not to Everton, who will be challenging for a European spot this season.

The only part i feel sorry for him is with regards to being dropped from the semi final cup matches. The FA Cup one being the most costly of course.

With regards to him wanting to go, he can hand in a transfer request, or buy out his contract if hes desperate to leave, or he (via his people) can talk to a team and agree some way to get him out (eg lower wages, sign on fee or whatever).

Having his wife make these comments are not good. We dont really owe him to let him go. Before us, wasnt he clubless?

I think we overpriced him. There were multiple teams sniffing around but no takers. We were never going to get 6m+ for him. Nobody spends that much on a backup keeper.
I feel sorry for him, the club have shafted him. He’s never let anyone down so if he wants to go then price him at a price that he will sell <5m

Feel for him.

When he’s played for us the last year or two he’s been better than De Gea has been.

He's done well against the opposition we've put him in front of, but i think facing PL strikers on a weekly basis would be a different story.

We wanted 8m for him. His wages for his remaining 1+1 contract (and we always activate options, protect the asset remember  ) come to about 8m. He won't play a game for us again so it costs us about the same to let him go now, or let him go when his contract expires, only this way we have another player in the dressing room who doesn't want to be here. I think it's another case of accountants running the show.

Does anyone have any idea/ guess about what wages he's on? Surely keeping him around is just an unnecessary cost (even if it's 50 grand a week that's still around 2.5 million for the year).

Really weird that he hasn't gone yet.

Sick of wags gobbing off. You wouldn't be happy with your wife giving it large on LinkedIn would you? Why do they keep doing it on an even bigger platform, with way more eyes on them? The only answer is because there's too much power in the player's hands so they know they can get away with it.

But anyway, we should resepect what Romero wants, while protecting our own interests (not selling to rivals). You'd think he'd want a number 1 spot somewhere. Guess being a backup keeper is an easy gig though.

Romero has been a great servant. If he wanted to go, he should have been allowed. He is coming towards the end of his career. He deserves to play if that is what he wanted.

he obviously doesn’t want to be a first team keeper, he’s been at United for 5 years and not once would he have ever thought he could be our no 1. Aside perhaps from when DDG nearly went to Madrid.

he’s been more than happy to earn a massive wage as an understudy. He knows he wouldn’t get that salary anywhere else.

I’m sure we would have been accommodated a move abroad, but why on earth would we or should we give him away to a team that we are competing with for European places (Everton).

He wasn’t. Just poor level opposition - he didn’t make any miraculous saves or anything.

I feel what you are saying and agree to an extent but is it better now when we are going to have to pay his full wages for prob an entire season? And it's not just him there's still the likes of Rojo, Jones, Lingard etc who most likely won't get many minutes att all being payed each month to do feck all. I'd rather get rid of them all even if it meant getting £5m in total just to clear some space wages wise.

Says who? Selling Romero to Everton doesn´t make much of a difference. I think it´s more that United actually wanted some money. He must be worth something, so why give him away for free. Someone will pick him up in January.

Isn’t he free to sign a pre contract in January?

I find it strange we seem to have left it late to look for buyers as it was obvious we were bringing Henderson back. A 60k 3rd choice keeper seems ridiculous.
