Have not seen that. If true that's very good. I would like to see him here, but only if his heart is in it.The most recent reports have said he is keen to join us.

Ignore the text and watch the vid. Fergie IMO is referring to Ruud..
It's not really that bold. During Jose's time that season despite accumulating our highest points tally post SAF we were already tired of him and the football by the Sevilla game. The end of the season was crap and the football was dire. We were obviously already going downward unless if we could have strengthen in the summer to help us get back in track but we didn't.Wow.
Bold statement but loving the optimism
Probably...Goose bumps. Best manager ever without a shadow of a doubt.
Was talking about David Villa wasn’t he?
any idea what year was this and who we tried to sign as mentioned?Off topic, but feck me I love that man
I'm talking about the circumstances surrounding those ending to the seasons rather than what exactly happened with respect to players coming in or out.Not even remotely similar?
17/18 - fell over the line to finish 2nd and ended the season losing a cup final
19/20 - fell over the line to finish 3rd and ended the season losing a cup SF
Summer 2018, sign a GK, midfielder and a cheap defender
Summer 2020, bring a GK back from loan, sign a midfield and if this thread is true a cheap defender
Not even remotely similar? Think you need to look that term up
That was in late 2010, so Villa as others mentioned would make sense.any idea what year was this and who we tried to sign as mentioned?
I remember rooney making a fuss that year that we didnt sign Ozil and wanted to leave due to lack of signings. Put in transfer request iircThat was in late 2010, so Villa as others mentioned would make sense.
People raging at the club for being stingy, I mean he'd be backup to Shaw when he gets here, are people comfortable playing whatever huge amount of money for squad players. He's most likely to play a lot of games due to Shaw unreliable fitness but from the Club's perspective they are still bringing in to add depth so they negotiate accordingly.

2010 and I think he was talking about Ozil even though he did leave to another country.any idea what year was this and who we tried to sign as mentioned?
Probably more put off by a €35-45m buy back id have thought. What? That’s great value.
He doesn’t need to be backup. We could move Shaw to LCB and play Reguilon as LB, and would be a much better team.People raging at the club for being stingy, I mean he'd be backup to Shaw when he gets here, are people comfortable playing whatever huge amount of money for squad players. Madrid fans seem to rate this guy as a really reliable source.
"As I mentioned this morning, both clubs are negotiating with a predisposition to reach an agreement and Reguilón has already decided to sign for #MUFC . A matter of hours before the signing is closed except for a now almost unlikely turn."
Your analysis is copied from the Athletic, can you at least credit them
not saying this deal is surely going to happen, but English media haven't known anything about our recent deals. We seem to give them absolutely nothing these days.Spanish paper bullshit again. English media haven’t said any deal is close.

Question....
I understand the purpose of Madrid wanting a buy back clause but its also being reported if that wont work then they want "first refusal" on the player. What is the point?
Wont that depend on us wanting to sell in the first place and even they then would have to match any other teams best offer? Even then wont it still come down to where the player wants to go?
It’s not remotely similar though is it? It’s true we limped over the line to second as you say in 2018 as we were on a decline. This season we got better as the season went on and we clicked when Bruno came in, Pogba came back and Greenwood burst through. Not even remotely similar?

Then why are Madrid happy to lose him and why can’t he challenge to get the a slot in their team?Sergio Reguilon was voted the best LB in La Liga last year and won the Europa League, beating us and putting in great performances all season.
Because they’ve just bought Mendy and also have Marcelo! They also need money so if you’ve got three left backs, one is a club legend and 32, one has just been signed and one has spent the last season on loan, who would you sell? Then why are Madrid happy to lose him and why can’t he challenge to get the a slot in their team?
They’ve spent big on Mendy so will prioritise him. They also still have Marcelo who they won’t replace yet. Obviously they want this guy back in a few years too. Then why are Madrid happy to lose him and why can’t he challenge to get the a slot in their team?
This is happening. Far too much smoke not to. If we are spending the Sancho money, i hope we do it on Thiago and Dayot as well. No to Bale

Not to mention the player wants to play instead of hanging around on the bench as the 3rd choiceI don't think they're happy about it, it's just they had already invested in Mendy who is doing well for them and Marcelo isn't finished yet. They just don't have room for him to also let Reguilón compete.
They also let Hakimi leave who managed 10 assists and 5 goals as a RWB and that wasn't because they were happy to lose him either.

they want a buyback though so that shows they know he’s good

I'm going to throw this out for a laugh, if we sign Sergio Reguilon would we consider using Shaw as the left CB?
He’s solid defensively as a left back but I think he’d get caught out too much at centre back. Your positioning has to be spot on and it’s why players like Lindelof, who I believe has the potential to be a very good centre back, isn’t quite there yet or may never be because his positioning is usually shite. Shaw would likely be the same.I'm going to throw this out for a laugh, if we sign Sergio Reguilon would we consider using Shaw as the left CB?
Lindelof is shit in the air that’s his problem. No suggestion Shaw would be any better in that department. He’d be decent as a LCB in a 5 but in Ole’s system him as back-up would give us great depth there. He’s solid defensively as a left back but I think he’d get caught out too much at centre back. Plus, it’d be a waste. Shaw is quite good going forward (mainly in the build up, no end product).
It would be fine if united increased the buy back to €40m. They basically get him back for free after united pay the same fee. That way united get a bit of profit. Otherwise it benefits no one but Madrid.
