Why is Cavani considered to be a roaring success? Like, seriously. He has five goals in twenty. He's yet to score at Old Trafford. He missed big chances in several big games (PSG, Liverpool, Arsenal - though admittedly this is a bit unfair, he was unlucky against both PSG and Liverpool). I'm not trying to say he's been bad, he's been... decent, exactly what you'd expect from a squad player. On here though... I've even seen someone describe him as "in-form" and that's a weird thing to call a striker who scored one league goal in two months; people regularly say that he makes such a difference when he's playing and I just can't really see that. He's been much better than Martial, sure, but I'm not sure sticking Phil Jones up there would have been any worse than Martial this season.
TL;DR: Cavani is OK but the love he gets is a tad baffling to me.
Imagine him and bailly as our 2 centrebacks that'd be brilliant and entertaining.
If he is serious we should be all over him hes still one of the best defenders out there and he's an attacking threat.
I'm just touched you took note of me tbh. You’re one of the most pessimistic posters on the forum but even this is a bit of a stretch from you.
Minutes-wise, he has played in the equivalent of 11 full games. 5 goals in 11 games is more than decent. Especially in the context of our other forwards’ performances.

Your talking about one of the best CB’s of his generation. Absolutely integral to multiple multiple CL’s and LaLiga trophies, oh and World Cups.Ramos is a horrible central defender. I can 100% guarantee that if he were here supporters would turn on him quick. He is a great footballer but quite possibly the most overrated defender in the history of the game. He scores goals and is a good leader, but makes mistakes that would make Phil Jones blush. I didn't want him 4 years ago when he used us to get a new contract and I definitely don't want him now...

He has but he’s only started like 5/6 games.Unless lockdown has messed me up, there’s no way Cavani has played 20 games for us, surely?!?
PL............. 14 games, 4 goals, 2 assists,.. 618 mins playedUnless lockdown has messed me up, there’s no way Cavani has played 20 games for us, surely?!?
Disingenuous.Unless lockdown has messed me up, there’s no way Cavani has played 20 games for us, surely?!?
I’m not saying he should be up for the Balon D’or or anything but he’s exceeded my expectations. Why is Cavani considered to be a roaring success? Like, seriously. He has five goals in twenty. we would need to be pretty bloody good elsewhere - as in 50% of our matches we would end with 10 men.
were missing that type of shithouse player though.
I don’t think facing mcguire and lindaloff really scares attackers imagine if you knew you’d be coming up against Ramos and bailly.
Yeah I can't see it happening either bud. Shame as although he is obviously at the end of his career now he ticks every box when you consider we are desperate for leadership and experience. There is no doubt about that but my gut feeling is that Utd wouldn't go in for him again after the farce of 2015, he provides so much leadership and experience but think they see this deal completely different to the Cavani one despite both being of a very similar age
Could also be mistaken for a no Leadership policy as well though.I thought we had a No D#head policy at the club!
Yup same hereI'd love him here.
Not ashamed to say he's my current favourite player outside of Uniteds.
His shithousery knows no bounds, and he's exactly what we need in the backline. A proper winner. Will do anything to win, and to feck with anyone who gets in the way of his team winning.
Well, showing up Martial in whatever metric you can think of - apart, perhaps, from Frenchness and sulking - this season is quite easy. Admittedly his goals-per-minute ratio is pretty good, as others have pointed it out. 5 in 11 games is decent. But he also only scored once in his last five starts so he's very much part of the recent problems.I’m not saying he should be up for the Balon D’or or anything but he’s exceeded my expectations.
When you compare him to the other signings of his ilk that we’ve made recently it was hard not to have some trepidation. Schweinsteiger, Sanchez, Falcao etc all came here with huge fanfare (and wages) despite being over the hill. Most were concerned he’d be another player with his prime behind him looking for an easy payday as he coasts into retirement.
Thats been far from the case though - he’s come in and completely shown Martial up just by workrate alone. You see him hassling and harrying opposition players into his own half while Martial can’t even break into a jog even when it’s him who gives the ball away. And he’s doing this while 10 years older! He’s really exposed Martial and shown us the level we should be expecting from our starting number 9. The fact Cavani was brought in as a squad option/experienced head but has given Ole no option but to make him first choice says it all really.
No thank you. Never mind the fact that he is eligible for my old timers league now, but Ramos is horrible. We already have Phil Jones. The last thing we need is a Spanish version of him...
It's such a ridiculous post I didn't even see the point of responding. Ramos = Jones ffs

He does make more mistakes that you'd ideally want, and he plays with too much aggression at times which gets himself sent off. But comparing him to Phil Jones is one of the most ridiculous comparisons I've ever seen.Depends on what you're looking for. If you want goals from a defender, pick Ramos. I judge my defenders on how well they do at stopping the other team from scoring, not by how many goals they score for us. And while Jones isn't the greatest player in the world, at least he plays defense sometimes. Ramos is a red card waiting to happen. Sorry, but a "world class" defender doesn't have 26 career red cards...
What aspect of a defenders ability is proven through how many red cards they’ve had? Temperament? Sure he’s a hot head but that comes with the sensational leadership and desire he has to win, it’s part of what makes him an elite defender and why he’s been so successful.I know exactly who i'm talking about. And I know for a fact that there are several knowledgable people like myself who can see just how over rated he really is. I mean, the guy has 26 red cards. TWENTY-SIX red cards!!!! Do you realize how obscene that is? To put that into perspective, Vidic was a hard as nails defender and he only had 8 red cards in his career...

Ramos was the defensive base one of the best teams of the last decade has been built on, standing alongside Ronaldo as their key player in winning 4 CL's in five years. A team that generally focuses on attack and leaves their defence quite exposed. Their defence, particularly his highly rated partner for much of that, generally looks absolutely lost any time Ramos isn't there holding their hands so that gives you an idea of how much falls on his shoulders. Yet according to you he's the same as Jones and worse than Maguire.
I admit I haven't watched Real for a while so I have no idea what he's like these days, but if he's still anywhere close to what he was at his peak he'd walk in and easily be our best defender. Maguire in his first season and for the first couple of months of this season made more mistakes than Ramos did, while not bringing anywhere near the positives. Maguire has cut most of those mistakes out the last few months but Ramos' all round play was still miles ahead of him.

You and your ‘knowledgeable’ fellow posters are absolutely kidding yourselves if you think Ramos is not one of the very best of his generation.
His Club and country could not carry a substandard centre back and win what they have.
He’s outlasted dozens of managers and they’ve all chosen him as probably the first name on the team sheet (alongside Ronnie when he was there.)
All these managers were wrong and all the trophies he’s won to prove himself amount to nothing though because SadlerMUFC and his chums off the CAF said so. Ahh riiiiiggghhhtt
