Sergio Ramos: Free Agent

I heard about that but didn't think it was true because I didn't think they check yellow cards on VAR. Guess it's different in Spain? Either way, this is no surprise. Ramos has got to be the most over rated defender in the history of the game. I have never seen a player who is caught out of position more often than him, or a player who makes tackles that he just shouldn't attempt. He's a great footballer, but probably should have been a DM. He's a horrible central defender and I'm so glad that he never came to United. He makes mistakes that would make Maguire blush...

The rules are the same everywhere. They check for direct reds. In this instance he'll get a 3 match ban for serious foul play instead of a 1 match ban for a second bookable offence.

A video assistant referee (VAR) is a match official, with independent access to match footage, who may assist the referee only in the event of a ‘clear and obvious error’ or ‘serious missed incident’ in relation to:

a. Goal/no goal

b. Penalty/no penalty

c. Direct red card
(not second yellow card/caution)

d. Mistaken identity (when the referee cautions or sends off the wrong player of the offending team)

Finding a way to get sent off a bit more than he's just been sent off might be peak Ramos.

He was absolutely amazing at Real Madrid. Had he joined United at his peak - which is when he was first linked - it would have been something to behold. Yes, has his adventurous short-comings but the heartbeat of the team, master of the dark arts and a great ball playing centre half. We'd also have been dangerous from set pieces during a time when we were probably the most impotent team in that regard.

I find that hard to believe when there's several of them currently at Utd including Maguire.

As Eamon Dunphy once said about Ramos, he's like Paul McShane on steroids.

Would have been great on any team. He destroyed our CL final when he took out Salah but you have to say he did it masterfully.

The one where salah grabbed ramos causing a tumble which ultimately dislocated salahs shoulder?

I think Ramos knew exactly what he was doing. Especially when they went down. I give him credit for it. He’s a crafty fecker and would have loved him playing for us.

The only thing he's a master at is tricking people into thinking he's a great central defender. IMO he should have been a midfielder. Caught out of position way too often to be your last line of defense...

He looks chonky there considering he always used to look as ripped as Ronaldo when he was at Real.

Am I imagining it or where we actually fairly close to getting him and Benzema in the summer of 2015. Mental.

Football fans romanticising dirty players and wannabe hardmen to such a ridiculous extent that they would genuinely accept a 38 year old finished Sergio Ramos at Manchester United is absolutely hilarious.

Would have been a great signing 12 years ago. Now, let him enjoy Saudi, MLS or whatever his next venture is.

Aye, go on them.

Pepe could probably be picked up for a couple of million as well.

We are talking about one of the greatest defender of all time, not Tyrone Mings.
That being said, PL will not be kind for a 38 yo defender from Spain.

That's not my point though? My post has nothing to do with Sergio's ability or quality. It's more about people willing to accept a washed up oldie because of the glorification of shithousery and dark arts.

What happened a few years ago?

I know most people thought he was signing. Was it that he'd genuinely agreed terms and about to sign, but did a last minute U-turn? Or was he just playing us for a new contract?

Well... a lot were laughing when we signed Evans because he is old. He did turn out to be a good free signing.

I think we should just look if the player will improve the squad and how much he will cost. With free transfers i dont think we should really look at someone his age if we only give that player a one year deal for example.

He is way past it. Most Sevilla fans (or possibly the ultras) are left with distaste with him not extending his contract. But to be honest, he is not a Benjamin Button like Modric. The only thing unfortunate in Sevilla is that the other defensive alternatives are too poor.. Heading for another season with relegation battle.

Hopefully this time it happens :)
