Sergio Aguero

Lampard was on the premier league show last night and mentioned his year at City. Spoke about Aguero and said he just stands about in training but bangs in loads of goals. Only a flippant remark but could be something Pep could get frustrated with, if he hasn't got that built in desire to train as hard as he likes.
Yeah I remember a Soccer Am a while back where a City player said he was by far the worst trainer and very lazy, and lucky he's so good on the pitch.

Wouldn't be surprised if Pep's taken a dislike to him over it.

He's looked quite slow this season, not sure the acceleration is even there anymore.

I think he's lost his pace to be honest, he doesn't seem as sharp, the injuries must be felt now.

A couple of years ago he'd be out for 7-8 games, came back and score a brace like he's never been out. Don't see that happening now.

Quick is obviously relative but I wouldnt say so no, I wouldnt classify him as one of the more quick players in the PL for example, not even in our team.

A foot race over 50m is a completely different ballgame to the type of short sprints Aguero needs to be able to do as a striker. Carrick is one of those lanky, deceptively quick players who eats up the ground over longish distances, but would be left for dead by Aguero over 5-10 metres. That video tells us nothing we didn't know already.

Still, under normal conditions, lets say a deep through ball, you'd expect Aguero to win and that can be runs over longer distances as well. He was also running with the ball and he took too many touches which slowed him down a bit after rewatching the highlight. Carrick is no slouch but I dont think he actually should be able to keep up with Aguero under normal conditions.

I couldn't imagine him being as lazy as Yaya in training. I remember the Ivory Coast players in the premier league were on Soccer AM and when that question came up they just laughed it off as if it couldn't be anyone other than Yaya.

I think we're over analysing this. He was probably complacent/didn't much care for an EFL Cup game.

Once he scores a hattrick on the weekend we'll revert back to the normal Augero discussions.

When he was waiting to come on, I saw that Pep gestured towards him and was speaking to him, Aguero basically ignored him and spoke to the official about his kit instead.
He didn't even look at Pep once.

That as pretty telling.

The point is not normal v abnormal, it's short burst of speed v a longer run, these are two very different attributes.

Gets 25 odd goals per season and the manager questions his attitude. :/

Had no idea he is 28 already. Jesus, time flies!

Yeah it is, but that's divisible under longer run without ball and with the ball. But do you thnk if you put Carrick and Aguero 1 vs 1 in a 50/100 m race, Carrick would outpace him more often than not?

I'd say the longer the race, the more chance Carrick would hold his own. My point is that I'm not amazed that one professional footballer managed to outpace another. There are so mnay factors.

And thats not even taking into account dribbling/taking the ball with him

I've stayed quite objective on this forum and don't want to be wrongly presumed as a wum or something but some of the posts in this thread are laughable, really.
Aguero has 13 goals in 13 games for us, without managing to score in 6 games. The actual reason why Pep dropped him against Barca was because Pep sometimes overthinks himself and wanted to try something different (in this case to overload the midfield in order to have more control of the ball). Pep did these type of things all the time, I remember he benched Lewandowski in one or two Bundesliga games for similar reasons.
Again, he wasn't started in the Everton game because he was dumb to jeopardize his fitness for his National Team, for which Pep rightly punished him.
Whenever Pep's been asked this question about Aguero's future he answered one thing and one thing only, that Aguero can stay as long as he wants to.
When we were on a winning run, talks in the media were about a contract extension for Aguero. As soon as the so called "crisis" commenced, Aguero apparently was Madrid bound. Coincidence? Not really.
