Sergej Milinkovic Savic

Can't remember which WC but came here after and the Aguero and Silva threads were full with comments on how they looked nothing special so know better than to write him off. Was obviously before they joined City btw

Regardless he's not the mould of player we need atm

I think your last sentence is more spot on. Rooney has had crap tournaments so I’m sure the hype is worthy. However his style is not what we require he won’t increase our tempo of play which is what we all want.

Every time I watched Serbia to get a look at him,. All i did was stare at the best CM in that team and then thank all the gods that he already plays for United. SMS looks bang average, and being next to Matic made him stand out more, not in a positive way though.
This. Watched all Serbia games, he was really average. Against Brazil he was anonymous.

This price tag is way too high.

Saw him in some games this season, he's tall, very skilled, fast and has great vision. But he's no 100mi player yet, and maybe never will. 50-60 would be more than fair.

Aguero was always a straight killer. I don't think people could ever deny that. He was always in people's dream list.

Silva was for years head and shoulders abouve his team mates, the question was about him being able to stand out in England. He absolutely did.

Not a lazio fan. Yes he did play as an attacking midfielder for Lazio

Lazio shifted lineups and formations throughout the season. The only constant was the front 3 of Milinkovic-Luis Alberto and Immobile. They never played a true 3-5-1-1 either, Milinkovic operated roughly in the same areas as Luis Alberto, with Lucas and Parolo behind them for cover and support.

Milinkovic needs to play close to the forwards. He's a big guy who dominates in the air, has a silky touch, great vision and quick decision making and excellent final ball. The deeper he plays the less he can make effective use of those qualities. He's wasted in a CM or box-to-box role

Seems like we're quibbling over a distinction without a difference here. We can both agree that he's definitely not a #6 and not really an #8 either - certainly, he's not at his best in a midfield two like he was last night. As I said above, he's better utilized further forward.

Lazio must be kicking themselves if it was true and clubs did try purchase SMS for 100 mill euros and it was rejected on the basis of SMS being successful.

What's Lazio supposed to do with 100 millions and no Milinkovic? Clubs like them would always rather keep players like him. They're not gonna replace him with better players

Reinvest the money in the squad, covering several positions for example? Or they can just as easily take a punt on several young midfielders, and keep the profit.

They are covered in most positions and have enough to fill the squad. They just barely missed out on top 4. Losing one of their 3 best players is gonna hurt them no matter how much money they make. Look at Spurs with Bale, Liverpool with Suarez...Lazio are smaller and considerably poorer, too, and have little chance to grow to that financial level anytime soon. Even if they invest it on young prospects, and one of them turns into another SMS(like eriksen for spurs), it will likely take a couple seasons for that, and then they'll be back in the exact same situation they're in now. CL money would give them an even better chance to take punts on young talents(which is something lazio have to do regardless), and keeping Milinkovic gives them a chance to have another crack at CL qualification

Keeping the profit is out of the question for them btw.

What brought about this hype in Savic? Is it because Lazio and their owner values him at £100m+ or is it because he is genuinely good and stands out in midfield during most games?

Only seen him play once for Lazio where I thought he was good but nothing exceptional and in the 3 games he played during the World Cup and he showed glimpses of his talent, especially in the first game but apart from that, didn’t really stand up and make you think “Wow what a player!” Maybe I just haven't seen him play enough...

He’s a good player.

Not better than Fellaini which we why United begged Fellaini to sign the contract. Slow Clap to the Glazers, Ed Woodward and Mourinho.... The future of United is in "safe hands". Can't believe the legacy of United being tarnished with every passing day. Cheers to mediocrity.

LOL! Good joke. :D

On a sad day like today (Fellaini signing) we all need a good laugh.

This is in no way an over reaction.

Just extended his contract with Lazio till 2023.
I'd love to see him playing for us. Think he'd be phenomenal in England.

He was never here, mate.

God bless for that.

I mean from the market. This is a expensive, tall, lazy, luxurious lump that Woodward would love to buy, so I'm glad he is not an option anymore.

PS. Wait, now he would be even more expensive... That might excite Woody into a move even more? Shit.

Bang average at the WC I thought, certainly no evidence from that he's even half the player Pogba is (even based on his Utd form)

His clubs fans don't even believe the hype yet so many on here seem to somehow think he could easily replace Pogba

He's not fit to lace his boots

That's bizarre. What's the context there?

"The Aquile have lost two in a row against Roma and Eintracht Frankfurt, enough to apparently infuriate some of the ultras."

“Milinkovic and Luis Alberto, fake talents only out for money.”

Only out for money? Sign him up Ed!

I want someone to check on @Yagami at this critical time...can't have his golden boy Luis Alberto being criticised.;)

Lazio fans are just upset at losing to Roma, they've had a decent start to the season. Won today v Fiorentina.

Said last season on this thread SMS is a very good young player who'd do well in premier league. Of course the issue is as soon as premier league clubs come in the asking price doubles so you probably thought Fred at 40m was better value.

Good player, but nowhere near as good as Lazio management think he is qith those prices.

Best thing for him is to stay at Lazio. If he gets sold for silly money, the expectations wherever he lands will crush him.

So how’s our Pogba replacement doing then? The “Slav Lieutenant” that will make the midfield so much better than Pogba, as has been said on here.
