Would people here take SMS coming if it means Pogba leaving?

No. Let's back Pogba up. He chose us in a difficult time of our club - we should put trust and belief in him. He's a world class player with higher ceiling than SMS if he's managed correctly.

We haven't been fleeced on Fredge and Dalot so I would imagine we have plenty of gas left in the tank for an annual galactico type buy. Hope its SMS.

Wouldn't you prefer the galactico buy to be an attacker? Or even use the money on a left and centre back?

He looked amazing against Inter but that's literally the only time I saw him play this year :lol:

LB is definitely top priority at this point. But knowing Ed, he may still opt for an expensive player on top of the LB. Griezmann would be best imo, but he sounds Barca bound.

No. Pogba knows the league and his teammates now. Next season he will only be better for us. There isn’t a midfielder in the world I’d trade Pogba for at this moment.

I would really like it if we signed him as well, moved Pogba to LW and played a midfield of Matic, Fred and Savic. Sell Martial and play Sanchez on the right with Bale as competition ;).

This is with the thinking that if we got a good offer for Sanchez we should take it as well.

How did he play today?
Saw Serbia lost.

only played the second half, but didn't do much. Tried and failed some karate kid volley, but except from that, nothing. Matic was a bit better.

hard to take much conclusions from a game like this though, except that Serbia probably gonna be going home pretty soon.

Really? Is he that good? Genuine question, cause I know squat about this guy.

Think of Pogba at Juventus!! I doubt he’s that good. So make of that what you will.
But hell yeah let’s try again. The first attempt failed.

Agreed. Much as I admire Verratti and kroos, wouldn’t trade Pogba for anyone.

You’re both crazy. I’d drive Pogba anywhere in Europe myself if it meant Kroos signed for us in return.

Mourinho is a soul destroying dinosaur, you should know well by now. Still yours truly dyno, I see. I would get Pogba back in a heartbeat, just imagine what Can + Pjanic + Pogba would be in midfield for Juve.

I'd buy Kroos to compliment Pogba not to replace him.

First, it is Matic to release Pogba, now it's Fred to release Pogba in 3 midfield with the freedom and get best out of Pogba. If it's not working, then next would be proper left winger foot who like to keeps the width and run behind defenders to compliment Pogba on the left flank instead of a left winger like Sanchez occupying Pogba's space or Martial who want the ball to feet and try to dribble defenders.

Forget about releasing Pogba. We need a good midfielder or two if we are losing Carrick and Fellaini and Kroos and Fred would seem to fit the bill nicely. Oh and we are not selling Pogba.

I agreed, I can't help but think we need DLP more than a box to box players. Andreas, Pogba, Fred and Herrera, that's 4 B2B, so too many. With Carrick leaving mean we don't have DLP now.

Andreas is definitely on his way out the door imo. He punched his ticket when he opted to feck off to Spain instead of fighting for a place here last summer. Not sure if we need a DLP or not. On the surface it seems like we could use one. On the other hand, any midfielder Jose buys will be expected to be a bit more versatile than just spend 90 minutes as a pure DM. This is why Fred will work well imo. He's B2B and will help Matic out at the back.

So you think bale would swap Madrid’s bench for United’s? he’d walk straight into our side

not bench, straight onto the right of a three (or two).
Rashford was on the bench replacing either Lukaku or "maybe Bale"

on current Pogba form not on his potential then yep.
Pogba needs to change his attitude and desire, otherwise he can pi$$ off. Either that or Jose needs to change, and we know the likelihood of that.

No chance. I watched 90% of Lazio games this season and he's nowhere near Pogba's level. He wasn't even Lazio's best midfielder for me - L.Alberto was. Not that Savic had a bad season, it's just L.Alberto was amazing. I'd rather have him than Savic right now, though Savic's potential is clear to see. I think another year at Lazio where he's viewed as an already important cog in a team would do him a world of good.

Not necessarily a deep lying playmaker but a playmaker in midfield has to be next on the agenda when it comes to central midfield. Despite the signings we still lack that Scholes, Xavi, Kroos type figure in midfield who can dictate play from central areas.

That's a bit harsh on Pereira...I may have said something almost exactly the same when it happened but in the end, he's a kid who made a poor decision. But I do think the end result will be the same - we'll move on. McTominay already stepped up during that injury crisis and im more invested in him now than Andreas .

As for type of midfielders, I couldn't help seeing Ruben Neves highlights and thinking young, more aggressive and athletic Alonso. Does he fit this DLP mould? At present I think Matic can provide enough from his position given more effective options on the wings and even ahead of him in midfield. Like you say, Fred will help open things up ahead of him .

It may sound a bit harsh, but its a dog eat dog world in our midfield pecking order and Andreas went against Mourinho's wishes to stay and compete for a spot and instead opted to go to Spain because he thought he would have a better chance of playing. So...in comes McTominay and that was that. I can't see Andreas coming back and playing his way into the squad, especially given his performances in Spain, which seem to have been mediocre at best. I suspect he will go the way of Januzaj and Memphis at some point.

I think Banega would be a good option here. He performed really well against us and has in the past operated as a DLP (although not as much recently). Would be cheap as well compared to the likes of SMS or Kroos.

First of all, Valencia has played Periera out of natural position for the wide position because of his crosses ability which is his strongest. Jose Mourinho was not pleased with Periera's role at Valencia that doesn't exist in United system, he wants to see Periera in CM, let it be a box to box role which I think will suit Periera better. I'm sure Periera will get more minutes in friendly games so Jose can decide if he's good for us and if not, he'll be sold. Periera probably regretted when Jose Mourinho has given a lot of minutes to Mctominay that should be given to Periera in midfield, I don't think he wants to go on loan again, he wants to make it at United.

He wasn't pleased Andreas going to Valencia on loan instead of fighting for a squad role in the first place.
"Andreas' (loan) was a personal decision, a decision I don't agree with, what I don't think is best for him, a decision that disappoints me a bit because he has the potential to be here fighting for his position, fighting for opportunities, to be a Manchester United player. His decision can be considered as a young player who wants to play every weekend but also a young player that is not ready to fight for something difficult and it is difficult to play in Manchester United's midfield. You have to be ready to fight for your position and I am a little disappointed."

Now, Mourinho has bought Fred and McTominay has emerged as a viable squad option so if Andreas were to return, he would be 5th or 6th in the midfield pecking order. Ultimately Andreas made the risky choice to not be here last summer and will now have to deal with the set back of very little playing time as a consequence after we have bought Fred and it wouldn't surprise me if we buy another.

Just watched my first Youtube videos of him, he looks so comfortable on the ball.

We clearly must sign him as he's the solution to all of our problems.

This rumour seem to have gone cold.
Doesn't really make sense to bring him in now that we have Fred. If we do sign another midfielder, it'll be someone that's more of a passer. Thiago, Verrati, etc.

Apparently Savic’s Instagram account liked a post about Fred signing for United.

This is on like Donkey Kong :drool:

dont think it means that much, players follow each other, happy for each other, not sure what link is between the two though, so who knows:drool:

just came to post what I posted in Fred thread, thinking Pogba-Matic-Fred-Herrera-McT-Pereira could be already a good enough and balanced midfield, playing midfield 2 Fred and Herrera could just about get enough minutes as Herrera never moans and Fred doesnt seem like that kind of player either whgich is good, fellainis minutes can be redistributed. However pereira will leave and a 5th midfielder in McT if we play on3midfields would be a bit underwhelming. Savic would be a bit of an overkill, would only mean Pogba getting a more forward role, might be a good thing after all but lets see

Really? Kroos/Verrati/Thiago/De Bruyne/Silva.

On form Pogba isn't even the best midfielder in this league, and he isn't the first name down in our midfield.

Very bold statement for a player who has constantly under performed since re-joining us.

Only think I agree with is Pogba will improve. He has too to be frank

I wouldn't trade Pogba for anyone of those. I would love to see Kroos and Pogba together but not trade one for the other. Pogba needs to focus on doing well and stop thinking about other clubs and bs like that. We all know how much potential there is in him, if he's happy and focused he is one of the best, but to me honestly it seems he is not enjoying himself here and a big part of that is Mourinho. If thats the case then honestly we would be better of without him because if he hasn't got his head in the right place then he will never perform good on a consistant basis.

Well, I beg to differ on that.

SMS and Fred are very different players. Fred is pure energy. He's pacey, he's hardworking, he's a tough tackler (stats wise he had done more tackles then Matic), he's good dribbler and he's a decent passer of the ball. However don't expect him to score loads of goals because he won't. Think of him as an upgrade to Herrera.

SMS on the other hand is a big big upgrade on Fellaini. He's 6ft3 so he's got plenty of presence, he's got a great eye to goal, with a staggering 14 goals in 32 matches from CM while still retaining the composure and workrate Mou loves in a player. He's not among the fastest of players though and his passing rate is not that great (81.8%) but he still got a respectable 6 assists this season.

In my opinion both can play in the same team. HOWEVER, that would mean changing our system to a more narrow 4-3-2-1. Fred will drop deep helping Matic out and linking DM with CM. Pogba will be the more attacking option in a 3 men CM and drifting on the left to cover that area of pitch. Meanwhile SMS and Sanchez will play behind the striker with Sanchez drifting on the right if needed.

4-3-2-1

DM: Matic
regista/box to box: Fred
Mezzala: Pogba
AMRC: SMS
AMLC: Sanchez
STK: Lukaku

I'd personally love us to sign someone like Kroos alongside Pogba also, but that wont happen.

If you had a choice between the two, Kroos is streets ahead of pogba in every single department. he;s such a better footballer.

Pogba has potential yes. But to say you wouldn't swap him for ANYONE is beyond silly. Likes of Kroos/Verrati/De Bruyne are currently world class. Pogba isn't.

Black and white, we'd be a better team if we sold Pogba and signed Kroos or Verratti. We'd be even better with them all, yes. But point I'm making is Pogba isn't someone who cant be replaced, he is a cog in our team, not that important tbh

I would agree if you didn't put Verrrti in that bracket, he had a fairly average season, not an exactly world beater. Kroos is not better than he was in 16-17. All players you mentioned play in attacking team and in 3 midfield, unlike Pogba who play deeper in our system, played the majority of games in 2 midfield and had a major injury last season. On potential talents, Pogba is ahead of them and has all tools to be the most completed midfielders and one of best midfielders in the world. I think it all needs consistency for Pogba to become one of the best midfielders in the world.

That's just false. Kroos plays in a far superior side than Pogba. In his Juventus days no one would be putting Kroos ahead of Pogba. Given an option, 90% of caf would pick Pogba to join us before he joined us. This is a classic case of not appreciating what you have.

Streets ahead of Pogba is probably only one midfielder in current football and that's Modric. But Modric is streets ahead of any midfielder in the world.
