Semi Finals: Argentina vs Croatia | Eng... France vs Morocco

Morocco should be proud of their effort, they made a game of this no doubt.

Good fight Morocco. That was a proper match. On another day they could have scored a few.

France just have silly levels of talent and that’s carried them through. Hard to see Argentina beating them. They’ll need some Messi magic.

Funny, they out played France today.
Having more possession isn't really out playing a team. You gotta make chances. The only chances in the whole game for Morocco was that bit at the end that Kounde blocked on the line. Was feck all chances before that, some almost connections on crosses was it.

Leaning more and more to Messi being the player of the tournament. Mbappe's been a bit disappointing today and was against England.

Griezmann is impressing the most again for the French.
Mbappe was literally behind both goals, don't know if they will go down as two assists or not but without him this might have ended up very different.

It is always like this with them. You think that they are in danger but they just know how to win. They also had chances to kill the game in first half.
Morocco is not bad team. It is 1/2 final of World cup and they are a team which today conceded they first goal from opponent player.
If Germany, Italy or England had this run of results they would be praised all around

I agree but I wouldn't call that a joy to watch. They are a 2000s Mourinho type team that knows how to get results even in ugly fashion. Clearly giving Morocco more possession, while reactive instead of proactive, was the correct way to manage this tie as Morocco only poses a real threat when sitting back and countering. Give them the ball, they will struggle more and that played out today.

At this stage, Morocco gains space in my heart. What a team that deserves a lot of respect.

They should be proud of themselves. Such a fighting spirit and mentality( and talent too).

Surely I can't be the only one here who thought that was rather comfortable for France bar a few scares here and there? That said, Messi is going tear Hernandez a new one come Sunday.

Those fouls by Morocco warranted more than 1 yellow card. I mean even that challenge that teared Mbappes laces was card worthy. The referee was atrocious

Yeah they were fairly in control bar a 15 minute period early in the second half. They did well to kill the game after that.

Shame Morocco didn't have a bit more composure when in front of goal, could've had 3-4 goals. Same at the back in the first few minutes, should've cleared it really and were a bit panicky.

Mbappe did brilliantly with the second goal though, great feet.

98 doesn't count as it was in France, 2018 doesn't count because it was against Croatia, and this doesn't count so its in Qatar.

So only one WC final if you really think about it.
And they lost that one, so does it really count?

Valiant effort from Morocco but despite the possession, it always felt like Morocco was struggling a bit to create anything substantial.

Felt like a Ro16 match, not a World Cup semi final, similar enough to yesterday but Morocco put up more of a fight than Croatia did. Honestly, can't help but feel disappointed as it was a great world cup, but the semi finals barely had any tension. Maybe I'm just a hater.

That was a close game. Morocco just cant take their chances. The final is a 50/50 game

To be fair I always wanted Argentina and France to face each other but was pulling for Morocco as the game went on because they did everything but score. France just got the job done.

I agree with this reasoning as it means England in 1966 doesn't count

Good game, but it leaves a slightly bad taste that both goals for France were so jammy - Mbappe being selfish and hitting it only for it to deflect to a teammate for an open goal, twice. :wenger:

Would quite fancy Argentina against them if the same version of them that played Croatia turn up.

Which they lost. 0 out of 1 is a poor record really

I don't like to use this phrasing normally, but Morocco at least deserved a goal here I feel. So many good chances went begging for them.

The final should be quite a cracker, hopefully similar to the 2018 knockout game.

Yeah me too. France did their usual game of getting a lead, and then not really trying to do much after that and wait to concede. Had a few clear chances on the break too and ended up getting a 2-0 goal, while Morocco only had 1 chance at the end of the game.

Not really, last 15 of the first half and first 15 of the second was basically all Morocco.

France deserved a win but it was hardly comfortable

They did not, having possession and blocked shots isn't dominating.

Otherwise Spain dominated Morocco as well...or that domination doesn't count?

Stop the underdog bias.

It's not bias they had more clear cut chances.

I don't feel like France were better today honestly, just more clinical.

When the dust settles, I hope people will realize that despite being average, France still had the best chances of the game
By far... I wanted Morocco to win, but like... they didn't create anything. A bicycle kick off a corner isn't a good chance. Shots from range aren't good chances. They only had the one run at the end of the game when the game was over already. France had multiple chances in the first half that they missed, but just sat on their 1-0 lead and didn't look overly troubled.

I’m struggling to think of any real clear cut chances Morocco had bar the one right at the end.
