Television Seinfeld

As time goes by I don't think it'll be considered as the greatest American sitcom ever. It is very very 90s. But each episode is so wonderfully crafted. I actually prefer the earlier episodes with the darker lighting and the longer scenes. More focus on the dialogue rather than later seasons when it was about juggling the storylines and cutting from one set to the next. Loved my Seinfled box-sets in the mid 00s. Might stream some Seinfeld tonight,

That's a fair comment. I think that it's not as easy to fully appreciate Friends and Seinfeld if you're watching them retrospectively. I liked Seinfeld but not loved it (same goes for Friends and a few other 90's sitcoms), and I often think if my perception of it would've been different if I were to watch them when they just came out.

I agree, however that didn't count for me. I'm too young to have watched them in the 90s but I enjoy both shows when there are episodes running on TV. I feel like the writing feels a bit more 'smart' or 'adult' so to say. Both shows can be silly, yet I'd enjoy them more than The Big Bang Theory of which I caught a few episodes and thought 'the feck am I watching?'.

TBBT is just an awful television, regardless of the era.

Curb (as a cousin of Seinfeld) will probably age better, if only for picture quality.

On a related note, Cheers and Married With Children aged much better than I thought they would upon going back to them...

I wonder if this show would fly today. Al Bundy was roasting people like no tomorrow.

The twitter outrage would be astronomical. He'd be called a body shaming sexist or a straight white male. Some of his put downs are fantastic.

The Golden Girls is another show that's aged surprisingly well. Dorothy was a lot like Al Bundy in some ways.

The line, "as I rained blows upon him..." gets me every time!

I guess the whole point would be missed: Al is an idiot.

Four touchdowns in one game too.

Look who just turned up! @The Don

I showed my mum a couple of episodes a week or so ago and she's a big fan now  She's watched about 3 episodes every night since, she loves it.

I'm quite proud.

So as I learned more about Larry David and after watching Curb, I kind of see why the quality dipped a bit after he left the show.

It became slightly different but I don't think it has a noticeable dip in quality like you see from series that run too long. It was still top quality and probably the only US comedy (talking ~20 episode seasons) with 5+ that remained top quality throughout.

It became more outrageous and more unrealistic when he left, I guess it depends whether you like that or not. I like it so I don't think the quality dipped, but can see why some wouldn't like it as much as the previous seasons.

Well Jerry is still a fantastic comedian, but I guess it's a matter of taste, I did say a bit, not a lot.

I didn't even know David left after season 7. I knew that he threatened to leave multiple times but I was always under the impression that Seinfeld convinced him to stay on right til the end.

I think the first season is the only season that stands out from the rest in a negative way. I'd give it a 5/10 maybe while the rest is a definite 10/10.

Just started binge watching this and I'm loving it. Far better than what I was expecting.

I remember my older brother putting it on the telly about a decade ago and I didn't like the look so that put me off. I was a very silly child.

I'm a big Curb your enthusiasm fan and can definitely see the similarities between the shows. And Larry and George, too, for that matter.

Oh, and as for George, he may already be one of my favourite characters ever.

Mid season 2, but, before deciding to watch it through from the beginning, I watched a lot of individual clips on YouTube and random episodes.

Safe to say I'll have finished this pretty, prettttttty soon at the rate im going!

Giddy up!
I'm already excited! I'm also looking forward to posting quotes and clips of eps I've just watched in here that everyone's already seen a thousand times :D

Jerry Stiller (Frank) was just about the only reason to watch King of Queens.
Yes!

What a pleasant surprise it was seeing him in this. I already knew he was in it but had forgot until I saw him in an episode I was watching. When he starts shouting/ranting he never fails to make me laugh.
