It only had 256Kb RAM because there was no ROM, so it loaded the OS (Kickstart) off disk, stuck it into RAM, then locked that 256Kb (total of 512Kb).
Brilliant machine, if you still have it, hold onto it, because it will be worth something one day. Totally revolutionary and awe inspiring.

It's a SNES, yes a Nintendo! Look what it says in the bottom left of the top face - "Super Famicom", the Japanise brandname for the SNES.
The story behind it is very interesting, Nintendo dropped a bollock, and the rest is history.
