Schalke’s left-back, Sead Kolašinac has confirmed to the Bosnian daily newspaper, Dnevni Avaz, that a deal is in place for him to join Manchester United this summer.

The 20-year-old was born in Germany to Bosnian parents and played for Germany U-18s, U-19s and U-20s, before confirming he would represent Bosnia and Herzegovina at international level. He made his debut for them last November and has played another game for them since.

He made his way up through the ranks at Schalke and has played 22 games this season for the 3rd ranked side in Germany.

“Yes, I have offer from Manchester United,” he said. “But, I will not hurry with the decision. I have to see what Schalke think about it.”

Kolašinac was in the press this week after German newspaper BILD pictured him in a night club in the early hours “surrounded by alcohol and cigarettes”.

“My friend and former teammate of Schalke’s Kevin Kuranyi, who is currently playing with Dinamo Moscow, was visiting Cologne and that night he called for his friends hanging out in a nightclub ‘Nachtflug’, including several former and current players Schalke,” the player explained. “I stayed in the club for only half an hour, while Bild had its photographers there who was probably trying to take a picture of something that I would not want to be seen doing by the public. I do not smoke and am not an alcoholic. On the half hour I drank a Coke and the cigarettes which can be seen in the photo are not nicotine. I did not do anything bad and I never would let my private activities affect my commitment to the field.”

He's good, only 20 years old and it'd be in everyones best interest (well, Bosnia, Kolasinac's and Schalke's...) if he stayed there one more year. He's a starter there, good defensively, physically a beast as well. On the ball he's not the greatest going forward but he always busts a gut to support attacking positions. A part of his game he'll improve on though. I'm still hesitant to believe those sources. Bosnian papers are shite and known to make up random shit. If the interview is true though then I think he'll probably end up coming.

Being first choice left back for both national team and Schalke at the age of 20 is impressive whatever way you look at it.

I would assume he would be a squad player here? We rely on our fullbacks to attack and put balls into the box.

Yeah he's not ready to start at United IMO. Miles better then Buttner though. Shaw is a better player but would obviously cost a lot more. It's not that he doesn't attack, he does support those positions a lot, and has blistering pace and loads of strength, it's just his crossing isn't his strongest point, put it that way. Everyone will have a chance to see him in the world cup though. I haven't even seen him loads as I don't watch Schalke too much, but he's been pretty consistent and solid all around whenever I do see him.

I still feel crossing is one of Evras weaknesses to this day.
I was refering to Kolasinac in my last two sentences. I don't think Evra's crossing is that bad. He used to be pretty good at it actually but in the last two years everyone has seemingly regressed in that aspect, including him.

I saw that he can play as a CB too, would you say LB is his best position? It sounds like he would make a good CB.

Can play defensive midfield too. I think he started there when playing for Schalke's youth, and played center back for Germany's youth teams. Not sure though. He's definitely capable of playing center back and defensive mid, but from what I've seen left back is his main position.

Schalke defender Sead Kolasinac is quoted as telling the Bosnian media that Manchester United have expressed an interest in signing him.

Kolasinac has impressed at Schalke this season and United are thought to have identified the full-back as a possible replacement for Patrice Evra.

The Bosnia-Herzegovina international claims he has an offer on the table from United, but that he is in no rush to make a decision on his future.

"It is true me and my club both got an official offer from Manchester United," Kolasinac told Bosnian newspaper Dnevni Avaz. "But at this moment I wouldn't like to talk much about this.

"My manager knows all about this offer from England and together we will think and then make a decision.

"I will take my time, I will not hurry.

"I have to think seriously about an offer like that and of course the Schalke board have to think about it."

I still wouldn't trust that too much.

As for him as a player, I like him, but I don't think he is ready to be more than a squad player, but he is already much better player than Büttner IMO. If we could get him for decent price, I would take him as a squad player(could be a good option due his versatility too).

You've got no one working on these deals properly qualified to determine their sporting value.

If you're going down this route, a Director of Football should be making these calls. Not a CEO.
I think Ferguson will be involved in any transfer dealings between now and the end of season.

I'd like a cheap left back that we could develop into something more. No reason to spend £30m on a full back unless he's on Dani Alves' level of talent and could have the same importance for our side - something I don't see in Shaw.

Saw him for the first time last night against Argentina, and he certainly didnt disappoint.

Was very unlucky to score the own goal, but after that proceeded to have every right sided player under wraps.

At this I would still prefer Rodriguez but he would be the cheaper option for sure.

Huge lad no doubt. I was astonished when the commentator said he was only 20 years of age.

The own goal was similar to Marcelo's in the opening game, in the sense that he anticipated the danger to be dealt with, as it should have been. Luiz lost Jelavic for Marcelo's own goal and Spahic misjudged the flight of the ball for Kolasinac's.

He was far more solid after that though. Agree, he's not at the same level as Rodriguez but an assured defender nonetheless. He was also quite competent at centre back after Bickacic move to right back.

I think he is better centre back than fullback, Ithink I am one of few who thought he had a poor game last night.

A replacement for Buttner more than one for Evra. I thought he did alright yesterday but I'd still put him far below Shaw and Rodriguez in the wishlist.

He's a good player but he's more of a utility player who can play at left back, centre back and can occasionally fill in as a defendsive midfielder. He's not good enough to be our first choice left back, but he could add more depth to the squad although that's not particularly needed.

I'd replace Buttner with Kolašinac very happily.

phew...it's getting stranger from day to day :wenger:

Ok, to replace Büttner may not be worst thing that can happen but honestly this guy should not be mentionend in the same sentence with Man. United unless he scored an own goal.

Played really well last night I think. That's as unlucky as it gets with the own goal but recovered really well, considering it was Bosnia's first world cup game ever in the world cup, at the maracana, against Argentina, and he's only 20 and up until now only played friendlies for us. Equally adept at center back or left back and can also play defensive mid, sort of like a left footed Phil Jones.

So I know we signed Rojo but could this guy be the second defender that we are reportedly supposed to be signing? Perhaps LVG sees Rojo as centre back and only wishes to use him as a left back if there is an injury crisis. Which would lead to this guy being the cover for Shaw and also hopefully puts an end to seeing Young at left back. He can also play in the centre back position and probably would be a good addition to the squad.

He is definitely not a wingback.

If he hadn't gotten Rojo, i expected him to be next on the list given our links and our want of a left footed player for LCB slot.

Doubt we will move for him now though. Has impressed me most times i've seen him but he is more Heinze type fullback than anything good going forward or a Wingback, infact Rojo might even be better going forward as Wingback/Fullback though both are defensive.

Signed for Arsenal on a free transfer.

Not your typical Wenger signing?
