Scott McTominay is the laziest footballer we've ever had

I'd start a 50 year old Zinedine
At this rate, I'd just ask Scholes to just play again. He was better playing in his late 30's, I seriously doubt he is any worse going into his late 40's. Just get him some toes to suck on and bring him back.

In the 47th 48th minute down by our right corner. He's been resting for 15 minutes and yet he just jogs around... So infuriating

Hahaha try Luke Shaw.

That entire sequence until his yellow card was so obvious. Everyone in the stadium knew it was going to go to him, except him apparently.

Or try Marcus Rashford. Challenge for headers? Nah, that's beneath him.

Not near good enough technically. He has to take about 20 touches of the ball before he can pass.

erikson was able to make one touch passes.

He's not lazy, he's just technically shite. He only has a right foot, and even then not a very good one.

Zero ability, immense coward. It'd criminal he's a professional footballer. Absolutely hate him and managers who are stupid enough to give him chance after chance because he looks to have a good build and "likes to fight".

In the first half we need to up our presence, and he had like two fecking touches!!! dogshite McTominay hiding everywhere, only to be lucky to escape with a yellow card, clumsy feck.

He's not good enough in any way. One of the my biggest gripes with McTomiany is that he is an absolute coward on the field - always hiding from the ball or looking for ways so that a teammate doesn't look at him and pass him the ball. That trait is the worst one you can have in a midfielder - a midfielder is probably the most important position on the field, he needs the ball. He runs the team. And McTominay is the complete opposite of what a midfielder should be.

I don’t think he’s lazy. He’s just not very good. Most of his running is him trying to recover the ball he lost.

His second touch is always a tackle.

There was a sequence of play in the first half where he was free for a moment when got the ball at the edge of their box and ended up conceding a free kick. That about sums him up as a footballer. He'll do a Cleverley. Go to a lower table club and then disappear from any sort of public attention.

He's just poor. Honestly put any other player on the squad in there and you'll get more. He's technically poor, and mentally poor. Offers nothing.

All physical and no brain. Hope that's the last time we see Scott in this EtH team. At the very least, not in the first 11. Ever. Please.

Agreed

I'm not one for slagging off players, as usually it's a matter of form, tactics, fitness or opinion. But McTominay simply isn't very good - in the most literal sense.

You talking about the Ericksen header that he got caught on his heels on and had to yank the Brighton defender back for? I was FUMING at that. Ericksen even gave him a little look before playing that header, and the lazy fecker still got caught ball-watching. Unbelievable. Malacia can't come into this side quick enough for me.

Yes, exactly that clip.

Everyone in the world knew where the ball was going, and we all knew what Lazy Shaw was gonna (not) do.

he isn't lazy.

he is simply a shit player, even if he put in a shift and ran his socks off, it won't amount to much.

Why not Carrick? He's as close to FdJ as you can find. And he still look fit.

Then why doesn't he put a shift in?

What's the point really? for me his presence in the starting 11 is pointless, he literally brings nothing of value on the pitch even if he puts a shift.

The sooner Ten Hag benches him the better, guy doesn't know how to play football

I think people need to realize that it will take more than one summer to rebuild our team. You can't simply replace everybody at the same time. So we will see more McT, Fred, Rashford, Dalot, Shaw. Unless we get FDJ it's almost guaranteed 5/6th place. Yes, ETH will make a difference but it will take more than one season.
Let's be honest here - will Klopp or Pep start McT in their midfield? Never. Will they play Fred? Probably not. We do and why? There is nobody. Simple as that. So relax and keep dreaming.
Hannibal, Garner and Zidane all say hello! All 3 offer far more than Mctominay.

Such a weird phenomenon that these days every footballer who is playing badly has to also be branded lazy.

It's not enough to think they're a bad player, now we have to also explain it as some kind of moral failing so we can justify loathing them

There was a sequence where he was tracking the run of Paul Tierney. We were defending and he was jogging alongside the fecking ref. I can't stand him.

Yeah, I don't think he's lazy. But he lacks talent and has a very slow footballing brain. He tries, but often he tries the wrong thing, and more often looks like he doesn't even know what he should be trying. The latter may look like laziness, but its actually indecision, trepidation, confusion, a total lack of competence and comprehension of what's happening around him. But he definitely tries. In fact, its probably how I would sum him up: he tries to play football.

All he does is run around with a Max headroom head on him.

I’ve never understood why so many refer to him as a hard worker who gives his all. He spends most of every game jogging aimlessly and ball watching.

It's hard to fathom why some United fans refuse to acknowledge how poor he is in Midfield.

TBF most do.

It's the men making the decisions at the club who still stick with him. It's baffling

Yeah don't get me wrong they are in the minority but I don't understand why there is even a debate to be had.

It's painfully obvious to anyone with eyes that he isn't good enough to play for your club regularly (if at all).

A lot of the comments on him are a bit juvenile on here sometimes but like Keane said we're going nowhere with him starting in our midfield. Brighton took the ball off him on the first goal like taking candy from a baby.

There's no reason at all for him to start over vdb, iqbal, or hannibal, other than he has more experience. He does nothing. We need someone to show and give the cbs an option, ESPECIALLY, with us trying to play out from the back. De gea got a bit of a kick-in from commentators today because of his distribution, but he had minimal options

I'm gonna add to the childishness, but it's been doing my head in: that little hop-skip he does when he turns. There was a bit of play around our box where two or three Brighton players played keep-ball around him while he kind of jogged back and forth among them doing that shite, then nearly lost the third man running in behind him. Did my nut in, that.

I don't know how can anyone rate this guy. Our academy player or not, he is fecking shite at football. It's absolutely criminal how he starts games for us and that we cannot identify a midfielder to sign who would be better than him. The bar is the lowest possible.

He regularly is lazy though. When the opposition get in behind him he almost always does nothing but slowly jog back, letting all the opposition runners get further into space and doesn't try to help out defensively at all.

That moment last season where he did that and Fred (who started a good 10 metres or so behind him) literally had to sprint past McTominay to put pressure on the opposition really summed it up for me. I could be wrong but I think Scott may have even been the one who lost the ball to allow the opposition to get on the attack, yet he just couldn't be bothered getting back to help. Scott is actually quite fast on the rare occasion that he does sprint, but he just never does it. When we have the ball you might be able to say that his ambling around aimlessly is because of him not knowing where to be or a lack of confidence in imposing himself (which in itself would be a huge issue), but when he constantly does it defensively as well there can't be any excuses.

He worked slightly harder than Pogba and Matic over the last few seasons. Somehow that, combined with him being homegrown and knowing the right things to say in interviews, seems to have got people thinking that he works hard. In reality even in that attribute he is significantly below the average premier league central midfielder.

Can we please stop with this ridiculous, over-the-top nonsense?

McTominay doesn't have a problem with laziness. His problem is a lack of ability. He's technically not good enough to work within Ten Hag's system, and he isn't intelligent enough to effectively restrict space in defence either.

He's not lazy.

(That's not the problem. There obviously is a problem with him, though.)
