Really good tonight. This should be our expectation of a squad player. Works his absolute bollocks off when he comes into the team, stays in for a run of games after a performance like that, but equally won't be a disruption if throughout the season he has time on the bench.

Pathetic that a limited player from our academy, still developing and learning the game can outshine our 'star' players by virtue of doing the basics right and putting in the effort.

Only player who didn't seem the piss the bed at the prospect of running forward with the ball in the middle of the pitch, which is pretty wild considering his limited ability. That's not a slight on him, but it's not exactly down to him to be jinking past players, but he gave it a good go a few times whilst Pogba trotted around like a sunday league player nursing a hangover.

People are going to get way too gassed because he scored and was the best of a bad bunch tonight, solid enough outing but he's a squad level footballer.

Super shot for his goal. Shame he couldn't score his diving header, though he did force the keeper to make a save. He could have directed it a bit better but not an easy header by any means, with the keeper moving across his line after Pogba flicked on Lukaku's cross.

On 2nd viewing, Scott's pass in the vague direction of Young, which led to the red card, was perfectly fine but for Young deciding to retreat back while Scott was executing the pass, so it went to where Ashley had been standing.

Best performer tonight but that's not saying much. Still needs to improve, especially in terms of creative passing, though he deserves a run of games in the team, given he has now put in good performances against Liverpool, Palace, PSG and Wolves with only one ordinary display against Southampton.

In his post-match press conference Solskjaer said "We feel that's his best position, like a high midfielder but he can play that defensive role easily like he's done against PSG and Liverpool". Having watched all his performances for the first team, McTominay has shown occasional moments of quality in the final third but it still looks his weakest zone by a long way. Of course we don't see what he does in training so perhaps he has more imagination and technical ability than he has shown so far.

Thought he looked absolutely terrific tonight. I was really surprised as I've had him pegged as a poor man's Matic, in the squad simply down to his height and physicality.

Looked a real player tonight. Could have scored a few!

His attitude and mentality are what you want from a water carrier in the team. You look at how weak and lazy some of our other supporting players are and despair.

Can you explain what you mean about a water carrier? He was our main goalthreat today and played as far forward as Pogba. He was an attacking midfield player. I can't remember an attacking midfielder being a water carrier.

Great match. Does the simple things, but does em right. Not prone to the personal errors that Matic sometimes show.

Should play for that reason alone. One of the only lot of this bunch with a bit of fight about him.
Was really surprised when he was dropped for matic, he was playing really well and matic was just dog shit when he came back from injury.

Remember when people were throwing shit at him because he was 'Mourinho's lapdog' and playing ahead of Fred and Pereira?

Fun times.

Jose Mourinho was right, he is better than Pogba , less talented but twice more consistent and have bigger mentality. He is proper United player.

He´s been doing really well and did have a good game against Liverpool and PSG away. He works a hell of a lot more than most of the other midfield players and keep it up.

Our best player by a mile. The best player on the pitch in fact. Put in the kind of box-to-box performance that we want from Pogba. Did Mourinho have a point?

Didn't deserve to be on the losing side

Shame his first goal and treat performance ultimately mean nothing but he should start Vs Barca

he's become a reliable squad player which is a beyond what most expected when he signed that contract - delighted for him

i think people are going a bit overboard with the praise tonight but he was good, for sure

Deserves his plaudits because he took his goal well. He worked his ass off and is a valuable squad player, which he proved.

McTominaytor 2.0 with a goal threat. Bring it on Messi, we're ready.

Lad has now played several games in a row at a very good level. Didn’t deserve to be on the losing side and should be starting ahead of Matic. Odd how Jose has gone and he’s actually improved under Ole, as the Caf had decreed him as unworthy of a starting slot and he was only there for Jose to prove a point.
Hope he keeps up the good form.

Perhaps Mourinho deserves some credit for his estimations of young Scott, especially during a period where many United fans wrote him off. I don't credit Jose for much, but for this I do. Glad Scott is here, to be honest, and he's been so consistent at a time when no other midfielder is that (aside from Ander).

Strange night to decide to post this but he just strikes me as another Cleverley. He’s bang average. Obviously took his goal well but ultimately cost us the game as it was his poor pass that got Young sent off.

He was unlucky with a header that was well saved but missed a great chance I thought from a corner which he headed miles over.

Just doesn’t convince me at all.

It is genuinely scary that he just gave one of the most complete performances I've seen from one of our midfielders this season. For a guy who was getting absolute pelters on here for being shite it throws yet another spanner into the works of our rebuild. Two Scott McTominay's and an advanced midfielder would be an awesome midfield.

Pure Basic Football at its best.

Funny how seriously important and useful the basics are in making football seem to be way easier without the need to do the fancy flashy stuffs.

His positioning, receiving, movement, decision-makings, discipline, work-rate, cooperation, follow tactical instructions, and even his shooting  (that goal) are all so basic, yet it works a lot. Sadly, football is a team game of 11. Not enough for just one player to do that. Almost scored another headed goal.

Surprising to see Ole used him with the dual roles -- Park role in man-mark their midfielder Moutinho, and Fellaini role in post-play, exploiting the #10 area and aerial threat in the box. Had to even hold the midfield and help defend as #6, additional roles after Young out, while still doing the first assigned dual roles. Damn. He tried his best doing all and balancing it out well. He's no Fellaini in attacks, but imo he did fine.

Love it he's our youth, and love it he doesn't look like a star. Good attitude and manners.

He's really proven himself useful to us . Hilarious that some are crediting him to mourinho.
The fraud lined him up with Fellaini and Matic and even CB as pawn for his power struggle with the board. More games of that and he would've been finished for good. Ole has instilled confidence into him and he's a different player now.

Just seen Ole's conference after the match and he states that they think a high midfield role is McTominay's best role. He was further forward than Ander ever plays for us and Ole's feedback there suggests that was the manager's instructions.

Perhaps the plan is for him to be one of Ander's replacements.

I am hardly surprised by his performance today. For some silly reason I can’t understand he was dropped for fecking Matic after a MOTM performance against one of the strongest sides in Europe.

That's his first goal (not counting pre-season games).

My only criticism of him this time is he need to be more aggressive. There are many times he just too conservative in tackling, granted the containing defending style works against pacy players, but he tend to that too often. In games where we're rushing i.e. losing games, that added aggression is useful and can spread. McT did played before in a more aggressive ways, so it's not something new. This time, he just lacks that aggression.

And continue improving. His passing and all is clearly better now, but still just overall fine.

Yet another impressive performance. This fella should be the first name on the teamsheet along with Shaw. Really coming along.

Matic will probably come back in to play matador against Barca though.
