Scott Dann to Arsenal

We need a left-back first and foremost. Quite why we weren't in for Enrique is beyond me. He's nothing special, but he's useful.

That's true. Who do you have that can actually play left back other than Gibbs at the moment? Can Koscielny play full back? That's a terrifying thought.

Vermaelen was a left back at Ajax. I'd personally sign two players - one centre-half to compete for a first team spot and to ensure Squillaci doesn't play a lot, and as good a left back that is out there. The issue there is that there aren't many decent ones out there at the minute.

I reckon he'll give Chamakh a go at CB.

I can only assume you've never seen Phil Jones, he's nothing like John Terry except nationality and position.

He's strong in the air, brave to go in for challenges and comfortable with the ball at his feet and taking it forward

There are a lot of similarities with Terry. But speed isnt one of them. Like Smalling, Jones has plenty of it

Wenger's quoted in Kicker today, with regards to Mertesacker, as saying that he's got 4 CBs and won't be signing another.

I don't think he believes that for a second, but if he does, he's potty. Even allowing for the fact Vermaelen has only had one good season in the PL, he's left with Squillaci who's shite, Djourou who looks okay but prone to lapses and Koscielny who's much the same. That defence caused them problems last season and I don't see how it will be improved by selling Clichy and being left with the constantly-crocked Gibbs and Traore who Wenger doesn't seem to rate at all.

Unless he plans on playing Vermaelen at LB, which would be plugging one hole and opening another.

Dann is a useful player and would improve Arsenal at the back. Should be available for a decent price as well, so wouldn't be surprised to see him end up at the Emirates. Good signing for them if true.

I'd be amazed if anybody rated Traore. At this stage AW has no option but to splash on an experienced PL CB. I hope his solution isn't to play Song back there....

Who could he go for at LB, now that Enrique's off to Liverpool?

Baines is the obvious one but probably some infant

I discounted him because of the fact he'd cost in or around £20m. I'm struggling to think of someone good enough who wouldn't cost the earth and who'd fancy a move to the Arse.

It can't be since you'd have no one to play in his position in midfield.

Nicked from twitter - That awkward moment in the dressing room when Scott Dann has more winners medals than anyone else..

It is funny but also completely wrong.

They do have Frimpong, and it's not like it matters that he's vastly inexperienced.

Beware left backs called Traore. You have been warned. :nervous:

Frimpong will have to start out as a back-up I think and even if he goes straight into first team while Song is moved to defence they will simply lack cover. They need to sign a midfielder anyway.

... basically a centre-back then, who's English and admired with rosy tints.

Jones is all right but there are people on here who make out that Smalling and Jones are the 3rd and 4th best central defenders in English football sometimes.

No, but they are the best two young defenders.

If he performs consistantly to his best, he'll be up there. Young players rarely do but we'll see what happens when he's given his chance

It was immediately confirmed he would miss tomorrow's vital clash with Premier League basement boys Bolton at Ewood Park and is expected to be out for six weeks.

Kean said: "Our physio cannot believe it. He has two players out with problems that he has never come across before in all of his years experience. Scott Dann has come in and played so well to replace Phil Jones, but in our last match he was hurt and it now transpires he will be out for six weeks with a ruptured testicle."

I'm sorry. I could come up with a thousand puns. But a simple

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

will suffice for now.

It is one of those unique moments where I both laugh, and cry at the thought of it, at the same time......
