I may be the devil, but i'm not a monster
In the same guise as Modric v Sneijder thread, this isn't about transfer speculation but who would you rather have.

For me, I think Schweinsteiger is a more complete midfielder. Box to box, can pass and can defend. Probably as close to Roy Keane in modern football as you'll find. Modric on the other hand to me is more like Scholes with his creativity and footballing brain.

For me, I'd take Schweinsteiger simply because he's a monster and we don't necessarily lack attacking flair, but more bite in midfield. However Modric is certainly a player that would benefit the team greatly in getting at the oppositions midfield and pushing them further up the pitch to compensate for our strength in attack. It also allows Carrick to focus on his ball winning abilities and cover for defense. Essentially, like we were in 2010/11 but with a more mobile version of Giggs.

After last season when barca beat us everybody was saying we need a Modric, sneijder etc. This year after city beat us to the title everybody is calling for a big strong player because City have Toure.

We probably need a bit of both to be honest in terms of the deep lying CM. So if me it would have to be Schweinsteiger(I know we havent a hope of getting him)
Also Kawaga should help a lot in terms of creativity(in terms of us being less dependent on wingers)

I think Schweinsteiger might be the better option, he could act as cover for Carrick if Carrick were to get injured/suspended whereas Modric could not.

Personally I think we lack an enforcer in the middle (and have done since Keane left in all honesty). Given this point, I would prefer to add Schweinsteiger to our midfield.

Whilst I'd love us to get Modric also, I hope that his position within our first XI will be filled by Cleverley in a few years.

It's a bit like asking whether you would prefer someone in the mould of Keane or Scholes. Essentially a midfield should have both, and I'd love to see Cleverley become our playmaker whilst working alongside someone that can retain control of a midfield (nothing against Carrick)!

Both great players and along with Martinez, would make up my ideal muppetmode midfield.

Out of them, Schweinsteiger is the most complete player I reckon though.

Modric. Simply because our chance of getting Schweinsteiger is close to zero.

Modric.

Apart from all the great Barca midfielders I can't really think of a more ideal replacement for Paul Scholes.

Schweinsteiger, does both the jobs everyone on here is whinging on about.

Not chance of getting him though and I'd be delighted with Modric, which probably has no chance either. Just a bloody good central midfielder would suffice please.

Modric is younger, less injury prone and PL proven so probably him.

Swiney is the better player though.

Schweinsteiger has played more games in the last four years than Modric has. In fact last year was the only year he didn't play more, and even then, he was 4 games better off than Modric had been in his worst season at spurs.

Schweinsteiger: 175
Modric: 159

Additional 42 international games to both in that time period.

Schweinsteiger. Always wanted him here. Lovely player with a great attitute from what I can see. Also, I generally like German players and think they adapt so well to the premier league.

Schweinsteiger obviously. He wouldn't only provide quality in his footballing abilities, but also leadership in our midfield which we so desperately need. Modric is a great footballer, but would he be able to impose himself and take control of the midfield in a bigger team? No one really knows.

Schweinsteiger... He is in a different league (ability wise) to Modric and in addition is a leader on the field.

To add to your argument, there are less games in the German League. Although Bayern reaching 2 UCL finals might influence this statistic.

I like this. We should also buy Messi to act as cover for Rooney.

Bastian.

While we're at it I'd like to shaft Jessica Alba in the wrong un while drinking 500 quid a bottle cognac out of Megan Fox's cleavage while watching Katy Perry give Lucy Pinder a royal going over next to a feck off 80 inch Plasma showing Cantona's FA Cup Final goal in 1996 on a constant loop.

Sweinsteiger obviously would never come here so......

Any one of Prince Boateng, Hamsik, Modric, Fischer(kid from Ajax), Sahin would do to help out as a deep lying playmaker with Scholes and Carrick this season.

I wanted Schweinsteiger last season too.

Now, that is the life...
