If we were offered £20m for Scholes from an Italian or Spanish club, should we let him go?

You would be if you could play football though. But you can't, and Scholes can.

I can, but not as well as Scholes though

Complacent?? I don't think so - he started the season in a position he hated, and didn't do well. So how could he have been complacent.

Exactly.

giggs, veron/scholes, keane, becks/forlan.
no room for him, he`s more of a muscle type of player that we need, but scholes offers more offensive IMO. Butt could go for a fair amount of money after an ok WC.</strong><hr></blockquote>
If we sell Butt, we have no cover for Keano

with scholes/veron we have two players with the same prefered style of play, and both are worth shitloads of money...
Butt are probably worth more now after the WC. That will not be the situation after another season on the bench...</strong><hr></blockquote>
Giggs/Forlan to coer for Keano??????
Keano is only 30, got another 3-4 good years in him yet.

How can United build a better side by selling their best players?
If we can bring in someone better than Scholes then yes, sell him - but there's no better attacking midfielder like Scholes in the game right now.
I'd only sell Veron if we could get Zidane, another player who can disappear in game when things don't go his way.
I'd only sell Keane if we could get Viera (and that's at a push, only going by age not overall quality on that one)
I'd only sell Beckham if we could get... (um, I wouldn't then. I was going to say Figo, but thought better of it)
I'd only sell Giggs if we could get... um, drawing a blank again, um, possibly Pires).
It's hard to see a midfield better man for man anywhere. Even at Real where they have perhaps too many players of a similar style (Zidane, Figo, McManaman - well, similar if not on the same level). Right now United have a bit of everything in midfield and even though six into four doesn't go, I can see no reason for letting one of them leave if they're all happy. Remember how stuck we were going into the Champions League final minus Scholes and Keane? At least now we know we could have Veron and Butt in there instead.

I'd go along with that

I don't think he showed as much passion last year as he has done in previous years. you can put it down to being asked to play in a different position, but to my mind it doesn't account for his relatively poor performances last year.</strong><hr></blockquote>
I think losing his place to a new player who played much worse than he ever did, may be something to do with it.

Agreed it is not a nice position to be in, but not good enough a reason. I reckon Veron will get to start the season.......

Keane just turned 31.
Utd will need to replace him at some point. You're right though he has a good 3 years of top football left in him at least - if he wants it.
You never know, he may do a Cantona and retire at the top. I believe he has ambitions to manage. Can't see him dropping down the teams or leagues as he gets older (Celtic is a different case scenario).
Fergie's recent comments about Viera indicate he is thinking towards the future and post Keano imo as Viera is a like for like player.

Why sell Butt? He's better than ever before and is fast becoming a world class midfielder. He's just proved his class at the WC and was very important when our bad run turned to a good one last season. Also, and very important, he is 100% red.
