I was just on Facebook and I saw an image saying Paul scholes has only had 31 assists in 17 seasons at the club where as Gerrard has scored 100. What is he deal here? Is this true? Where can I get the official statistics?

Scholes doesn't actually look for the killer pass much through the middle. Generally he pings it wide. Most of our goals are created from our wide players or our forwards. Scholes and Carrick would more often assist the assistor.

Part of it will be that Scholes has never really taken setpieces, he says he doesn't like hitting a stationary ball.

This interests me.

why doesnt sat nav take corners and free kicks? of course he is a useful player to have on the edge of the box in those situations, but with such an accurate delivery im surprised he has never taken one. Perhaps its the focus of the occasion that he doesnt like, but it baffles me that he hasnt ever attempted one ever.

We'll never know

Read what SteveJ posted, he has over 100 assistes

They didn't even start keeping official assist stats till around 2002ish. Which cuts about half his career.

Yup, always knicks the ball half a yard with the outside of the boot when the space allows before driving his trademark long-balls, I picked that up from him :D.

It's simple, he doesn't hit curlers that the vast majority of corner takers use. His passing technique is totally different to the one of a crosser. He barely curls it with the inside of the foot anywhere on the pitch actually. He is tailor made for hitting rolling football, not a stationary one. Even his crosses into the box, from what I've seen, have always been chip-like, hit with shoelaces more than sharp out swingers.

Post the image here, numpty, so we can make fun of it

It's from some spacker that didn't realise they only started properly counting assists on sites like ESPN from 2006-ish.

Interesting stats.

Henry's stats of 176 goals and 144 assists in 258 games is pretty crazy.

Rooney has 154 goals and 126 assists in 336 games.

Amazing database, I've just finished reading Phillipe Auclair's book about Cantona and was interested to check his stats because the book seems to mention an assist or a goal pretty much every game in the season summaries during his time here.

In 143 EPL games (142 starts) for United he scored 64 goals and provided 77 assists, so basically an assist or a goal a game over 5 seasons. Obviously the stats don't tell the full story but it goes to show that any talk of Cantona being the key man in those 4 titles isn't hyperbole
