San Marino

The hard work of Rooney, Charlton and Linekar all for nothing.
Harry Kane about to break their records against a team like San Marino is just utter garbage.
We play such shocking teams, the country gets hyped up because we’ve won every single game but when it comes to the big tournaments we come unstuck because we’re not used to playing good opposition.

Much like PSG in their farmers league. All season they play against dross and then come unstuck in the latter stages of the CL.
Farmer's league, so clever and edgy.

Meanwhile the 7th placed team of Ligue 1 bounced City out in the CL a couple of seasons ago and PSG has been in the final and semi-final respectively the last two years. In other words, you're talking absolute nonsense, but it always comes with anybody who uses 'farmer's league' in their posts.

It is a farmer's league, though.

Plumbers league?

Grape stompers' league? It sounds more French and it also gives you a mental picture of PSG's role.

Let’s be real here. Ligue 1 is a farmers league. We all know pep bottles these games sometimes by over thinking.

PSG win the league at a canter most seasons. You have little competition. Yes you lost the league last season but come on lad.

Ligue 1 is the worst out of all the top leagues in Europe. Get back in your box.

You got to two finals and lost both. With all that money you’d expect atleast one CL title.

My point still stands. PSG play rubbish teams week in week out so when it comes to crunch time you fail. This is because your team find it easy in their league.

Much like England. We play rubbish teams for years. Get to a tournament and fumble.

PSG don't win it at a canter every year though. PSG average titles aren't easier than City's average title, Ligue 1 has more different winner in the last decade than any other top league not named PL.

Pretty stark in this group how far off they are even Andorra.

Andorra beat them 2-0 at home and 3-0 away.

Despite not picking up another point Andorra only lost 1-0 in both games v Albania, were only 2 down in Poland up to 88th minute, were only 1 down at Wembley up to 72nd minute and lost 2-1 in Hungary so that is team at least you have to work hard against to score in most games they play.

That's the issue really, I mean for nations league groups you could put San Marino in with Faroes and Malta and they'd probably lose all four games so realistically difficult to see how they improve unless some reasonably decent Italian players with San Marino heritage decide to play for them.

someone needs to do a Ben Brereton styled FM campaign for San Marino!

Why do England always play these guys so much ? Is there a legit logical explanation ?

San Marino have only been playing games since 1990. England have played them 8 times since then.

Same amount as Belgium and Scotland, fewer times than Poland (10).

With a (relatively) short period of time and a random draw for qualifiers, you are going to see an uneven spread of opponents. For example England have never played the Faroe Islands but Scotland have had them 9 times.

Nah, England are just massive bottlers.

You haven't played much different teams than what Italy, Spain, Germany,France, and Netherlands have in the qualifiers.
Still these teams has better results in Euro and WC since 70s than England.

You are trying to excuse the 'bottling' with the non-sense that England plays weak teams, as if the other big teams are playing top teams every match in the qualifiers.

Just accept the fact that the England NT have been bottlers since 1970, no point in making excuses as "We play San Marino way too many times", that has little to do with getting knocked out by Iceland, who had a part-time dentist as manager.
Just like Ligue 1 is the worst of all big 5 leagues, England is the worst of all big national teams.

To people that say it must be horrible being hammered most games you seem to forget that most of the players are just average joes with regular jobs and due to San Marino being poor they get to play international football

It's happening.

The power of social media etc. Almost 2000 people following the score on the BBC website. I'm one of the weirdos now.

Go on San Marino!

Edit: Up to 2.5k now!

They've won 2 games in their history and both against Liechtenstein

Their first ever competitive win. The last time they won any game at all, the goal scorer in tonight's game hadn't even been born yet.

They are cooking of late. Another point tonight.
They go up to Group C if they win at Liechtenstein next week, don’t they?

An away win might be a bridge too far though.

I feel sorry for Gibraltar (and United's James Scanlon) - that's the second game of the group so far that they've been denied a win with an injury time penalty. The first one was in the 14th minute of injury time in the opening game!

Just winning one of those would have seen them already guaranteed top spot - now they're currently top but have to wait on that Liechtenstein - San Marino result.

They'll get a playoff against one of the bottom teams from Group C for promotion. Basically of the 4 last place teams in C, the worst 2 go down. The next 2 play against runners up in D.
Actually sorry you're correct. I thought for some reason Gibraltar had 2 wins and 2 draws.
