If I remember correctly, he absolutely played us off the park when we played Porto

He bullied us, but having been available for £12.7m in the summer and a contractual release clause of €100m, it’s safe to say he’s going nowhere in Jan.

Ahh, the influx of players from the coaches’ native country

Where have I heard this before?

Actually he was born in Spain, not Portugal. I guess Chelsea had a deal with Athletico for him and it fell through. Tall, Strong, Quick, High Work Rate. That would be a nice change of pace from the short, weak, slow, lazy players that are currently in the squad.

Doubt United can afford him tbh.

To be fair, this sort of describes Hojlund, as well.

I've really liked the little I've seen of Samu, but struggle to see how he'd succeed in improving our general attack on his own. We need someone with more experience rather than again expecting a 20-year-old to learn on the job and carry the entire club forward. Even when we were initially linked with Hojlund, a lot of people were mentioning him as a potential understudy to Harry Kane.

I meant the league he came from, though admit I probably worded it wrong

There was something up with his medical if I recall but nevertheless Chelsea basically ended up choosing Joao Felix over this guy. Not looking like a great decision right now.

Think he was a little raw technique wise though. Maybe not ideal for the amounts that he would be going for. The moment for that particular player has passed. If we add a striker, it shouldn't be a young one but one in his peak or shortly after. No point bringing in another Hojlund figure into the mix when we already have two of them which already is one too many. Hojlund needed a partner to take the pressure off from the begin with, this player should be brought in, not Zirkzee. And certainly not Samu or Gyokeres or whoever has a decent streak going right now.

He's one of several at Porto with potential. You'd expect City or Liverpool to be in a stronger position for Varela however.

Would be zero point in getting this lad before getting in players who can play the ball to him. Wing backs and midfielders have to be the priority.

Gyokeres, osimhen should be higher on the list rather than investing in more potential in this moment in time

I actually said about this guy after we played them, I say this only because I was really impressed and I do rate him.... however I feel right now we have a very raw but talented young striker, maybe even a couple if you count in Chido Obi, I think what we really now is more of a seasoned campaigner, a bit of a Cavani loan type situation, and any striker is going to struggle unless we first sign wing backs who can provide service into the box

He was born in Spain and joined Porto this summer after a move fell through with Chelsea.

Nice try all the same..

We need top experienced striker because we already have Hojlund as young profile striker. But, Samu is the only young striker I wouldn’t mind to have as our starting XI because I was so impressed how he bullied our defenders earlier this season. Strength, speed, power, and can score header. I think he’s built for PL.

Not exactly.

Atletico claimed to value Samu at €40m because they were hoping to swap him for Connor Gallagher without paying a fee. Eventually somebody at Chelsea realised that was ridiculous, so they pulled the plug at the medical stage. Samu ended up moving for much much less than €40m (to Porto) and Chelsea got their money for Gallagher. The João Felix thing was after all of that, I think.

They sold him for €15m plus 50% sell on clause. Without the clause, they would still asking €40m to Porto. So if some club activate his €100m release clause, Atletico would still get additional €50m so at the end Atletico might end up getting more fees than €40m out of him.

I don't think anybody is expecting the release clause to be activated, but yeah, kind of that too.

His number is impressive so far this season and he already showed us how he could bully some PL defenders against us at his age. If it keeps continue after two seasons, I expect Porto will only let him go if a club active the release clause.

I can only remember exactly one €100m+ clause ever being triggered, but if you think Samu will be the second, fair enough. It could happen.

The last thing this club needs is another unproven striker from a weaker league. Also this fella would cost 70-80m. He may not be worth that, but why would porto sell for any less when they have just bought him and athletico have such a large sell on? They will plump him up for another 18 months before selling.

I quickly read his name and thought we where interested in someone related to Julius Aghahowa.

He was impressive in the Porto game. But we already have three project strikers if you include Obi-Martin . Unless we selling Zirkzee and Hojlund this window very unlikely

Very different profile to either Hojlund or Chido Obi (does not want to use the Martin BTW), Chido Obi is not ready to for regular 1st team action anyway although he may get some minutes, likewise Biancheri who is probably just as ready for teh 1st team but gets less headlines.

Samu is much more physical, it all depends on price if we can effectively swap Zirkzee for Samu it would be a hell of a deal, but I suspect even if Porto are willing to accept lower than the release clause it will not be low enough, Victor Boniface has a similar profile and is more established/experienced and would be available for less than Samu, TBH either would be a big upgrade for the squad

Boniface has been injured quite a bit..

Yet another goalscorer on the market with excellent physical attributes and poor technical ones.

Wrong age profile. Can’t keep stockpiling on young strikers with barely any skin in the game uptop.

Will say though, just by a brief look at the stats, he looks quite the threat in the air. Rare you see strikers coming through these days who actually want to head the ball. We’ve got two big chaps uptop and both hate it.

I'm not against it, it's just we seem to buy players with huge deficiencies rather than the stars Brighton buy. Zirkzee's lack of pace and poor aerial ability and Hojlund's first touch, awful aerial ability and technique are some of the worst percentile in the league, these are things they cannot improve on.

I'd ideally want us to strive for players like Caceido before they go to another premier league club.

If we sold zirkzee and hojlund and got this guy as back up to Osimhen Im all for it. But not this guy as main striker.

Signing a striker just feels so redundant when we have the likes of Dalot, Maz, Antony and Malacia trying to service them. We need improvements out wide desperately.
