sometimes, when a poster has been banned, it can still feel like they’re posting still. i open the sale thread and think “that’s a load of nonsense, plant,” only to realise he’s not there.

I know it wasn’t you, but I don’t follow the logic. You’ve got a newbie guy spamming seemingly in support of the Glazers getting everyone’s backs up, you’ve got a guy posting any old Twitter and Reddit nonsense WUMming for the Qataris and it’s me who gets the ban. 2 weeks seems disproportionate too. It just plain sucks.
Generally, if one gets a warning for anything in that thread, they are going to be viewed as disruptive in an important thread, and therefore eligible for a thread ban.
