Like bebe, mame biram diouf, manucho, delaet... Did we really think they'd make it here?

I thought we were talking about youth players but okay. Bebe and Diouf were significant investments, we definitely had high hopes for the latter, as for Bebe....who knows, but we clearly weren't in it for the profit at that price. Manucho and de Laet were obviously long shots but I don't think we would have bothered with them if we hadn't seen something there. They were both raw with wonderful physical attributes and, though nowhere near United quality in the end, it's not like they ended up sucking cock under a bridge for 2 pounds a pop.

Anyway, we would never bring in an academy player from abroad if we didn't think he had the right potential. It's a huge responsibility and if we didn't do it for the proper reasons each and every time we'd be doing ourselves a massive disservice as our reputation is everything when it comes to attracting future non-local, highly rated youngsters.

Can't believe people are complaining about signing a 17 year old. Bloody hell!

Who's complaining? Just joking mate, he won't be ready for the first team in 3 years time (or more) anyway and has cost almost nothing. If he turns good, we have saved a lot of money, if not, it doesn't matter, these kind of deals doesn't harm the club anyway.

I read your post wrong then. I read it as a sarcastic comment based on the fullbacks (and Joens and Smalling aren't really fullbacks!). My bad.

"Undisclosed fee"... Free?

Did we switch roles with Arsenal this Summer or what? Going for under 18s, trying to loan rather than buy players, only making bids when we know they won't be accepted, signing only players the manager has already worked with, getting rejected by players...

Anyway, I hope he turns out to be a good player, so he can provide a cover for Rafael in about 10 years.

About half of them end up leaving for Huddersfield or some crappy German or Dutch side so I'm not sure it's true. Having United in your CV won't guarantee you much, perhaps only that you'll find a club afterwards - you can still be gone and playing for a poor team in no time mind. It didn't help Dong that we gave him a chance, he was still a terrible player no one wanted.

I was just reading some statistics on Dong since he left us in 2008. He's had 77 appearances in 5 years across 5 clubs and has managed to score 11 goals. DOH! What the feck is he doing up front??!

Although he hit a bit of form between 2004 - 2006 at Antwerp, bagging 34 goals in 71 games.

He's shit. I added in the remainder of his story from Wiki. It actually reads quite sadly. He's still playing but ya know...all very downhill.

Return to China

On 27 August 2008, Chinese online media reported that Dong Fangzhuo would join Chinese Super League club Dalian Shide. He was handed the No.9 shirt which was previously worn by famous Chinese striker Hao Haidong. Although his experience at Manchester United meant that expectations of him were high, his performances in the Chinese Super League upon his return were very poor. Dong struggled to score goals, and was relegated to the reserves as a result. His poor performances in the league also prevented him from being called up for the Chinese National Team.

Return to Europe

After attending training camps with Legia Warsaw in Spain and Cyprus, Dong signed an 18-month deal with an option for two more years depending on performance with the club. Despite impressing in the pre-season friendlies, in the league Dong looked desperately out of his depth and managed to notch just two short appearances before dropping to the reserves.

He was released by Legia on 1 August 2010. On the back of ex-Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo's recommendation, Portimonense signed Dong to a one-year deal in August 2010.

Dong was not used often and was on the bench for most of his time at Portimonense. He grew frustrated with his lack of playing time and terminated his contract with Portimonense. In March 2011, after a very short stint with Portimonense, Dong signed for Mika from the Armenian Premier League.

At the end of season, he left Mika for Chinese second tier club Hunan Billows, and is now currently serving pre-match meals to the first team. That part may not be true

I met him in Warsaw once, seemed uber cool. He was absolutely shit for Legia though, amongst the worst footballers I've ever seen play in Poland and that's saying something.

Pity, but I guess they can't all make it to the top

It must be seriously depressing given the opportunity you had and what might have been. He's still only 28 years of age.

Yeah, he probably didn't even earn that much during his career, he's probably going to have to take up another profession pretty soon and it might be tough when your only experience is being a crap footballer. Then again I guess he could make a living making speeches about his lost opportunity and stint at United.

We have signed another full back. Welcome here.

We hate midfielders though. Not that we don't sign first team midfielders (with afro being the first after 6 years) but we don't sign even young midfielders.

Andreas Peireira...Adnan Januzaj..and then we have young prospects like Ben Pearson, Joe Rothwell etc..

Good to see another young player joining even if I have never heard of the lad. Hopefully he can develop well.

Fantastic! He's the new Bale. In the Bellion was the new Henry kinda way.

So why are we signing players with names like Saidy? Surely thats a girls name. Same with Marrianne Fellaini. Whats Moyes playing at?

It's going to feck the feck out of his song.

Come on David Moyes
You and your boys (with girl's names)
We've got Tina and Delilah
Tina and Delilah

etc

Saidy, Cant you see?
Were in misery
We wanted fab but were too tight
So we signed felliani

Woody flew, all alone
I sit and wonder why why why or why?
Why we signed you oh saidy?

Its the Caf. Once they discovered Buttner was a Dutch gypo they had him labellled as shit before he played a game. Same thing for Bebe because he was homeless but in their defence Bebe is shit.
Whereas Buttner, on the other hand, is like Roberto Carlos reborn...

Sigh. Our loan attempt for Coentrao was due to time constraints. We hadn't enough time to put together a permanent deal once we couldn't get Baines so we tried to loan Coentrao and then make it permanent later.

And in all fairness, we'd got the deal done. Madrid just backed out.
