On ssn they just said that he's a right sided player and that he features more at full back and that we've basically signed him to go into the u18s I believe.

He's been at FC Zurich for 2 months...strange

EDIT: looks like that was when he was promoted to main team from the youth side

No. He's homegrown. You probably just looked at transfermarkt. He was at FC Zurich II, FC Zurich U18 and U17. Born there as well.

He's a super talent for less than million pounds ?

Eddie finding value in the market.

Perfect we'll be needing him when Rafael retires which is like the year 3000.

I've never seen this lad, he could be the second coming of dennis irwin for all i know, but sometimes i think we sign players just to raise their value through association with man utd, then sell them on when they don't make it. I guess it's not a bad policy as everyone gains from it but it does raise a lot of false hope.

Give me one example.

That's odd, I thought we signed players to make us a better team and hopefully win a few things....but what do I know:confused:

About half of them end up leaving for Huddersfield or some crappy German or Dutch side so I'm not sure it's true. Having United in your CV won't guarantee you much, perhaps only that you'll find a club afterwards - you can still be gone and playing for a poor team in no time mind. It didn't help Dong that we gave him a chance, he was still a terrible player no one wanted.

Like bebe, mame biram diouf, manucho, delaet... Did we really think they'd make it here?
Diouf had a realistic chance of making it here, he just came at a very inconvenient time IMO. He's been wonderful for Hannover and will probably end up at a very good club that isn't Stoke soon.

Maybe but we took a loss on all players when you factor in wages and development.
That's true... It's just hard to see the rationale of some of our signings... It's like we're taking a punt on signing a solskjaer type gem... Would it better to sign some of the emerging English talent from lower leagues?

Or we sign promising young players who have the potential to maybe one day play for the first team.

The signing I never got is Bebe, that doesn't sit right at all.

There probably aren't many emerging English talents in the league that probably are as good as what we have in our academy. The ones that are we've either signed up (like Powell) or have gone elsewhere for huge amounts.

True, I just think tottenham had the right idea when they were signing the likes of walker, bale, Lennon etc... They cost a few quid and there's the odd huddlestone thrown in there but it worked well.

We have signed another full back. Welcome here.

We hate midfielders though. Not that we don't sign first team midfielders (with afro being the first after 6 years) but we don't sign even young midfielders.

Wonderful, our second youth team right back of the transfer window!

Considering that we have made only 3 signing this year, and for the right back position we only have Rafael, Fabio, Jones, Smalling and Vermijl, I think that Varela and Janko were necessary signings. They also have super names and apparently are super-talents.

Can't believe people are complaining about signing a 17 year old. Bloody hell!
