RW Options

Almost as if you haven’t seen him play there
Ridiculous. He's a sensational player on either flank. The only reason we needed a left footed forward was because the last 2 managers were so committed to the idea of inverted wingers. Ten Hag has appeared more open to the idea of playing him there in pre season and he's been brilliant. I'd be very surprised if Antony for instance could outperform him there.

Presume you mean Jadon

Yes. Other guy thinks he cant play on the right.

well you are right he can play there, but not if you want him as an inverted winger. He hasn’t been sensational for united there at all, and you are right I don’t count his pre season performances as good, especially as he was actually better coming off the left. If we intend to play him out there in 433 with inverted wingers he will be disappointing again.

You don’t think he’s been good there in pre season? Or you just don’t count it because it’s pre season?

I expect him to be very good under Ten Hag. Left or right.

I don’t think you can tell anything about him playing there from pre season, and I thought he did his best work off the left against Liverpool. Can he play off the right if he plays as a more natural winger? Sure but you lose his goal threat, and when you watch either game he looks 75% less threatening from the right, yeah he created chances and had a few neat moments but never really looked dangerous

Well obviously he cant play as an inverted winger on the right, he's right footed. When we signed him his outstanding characteristic was assists though, not goals, so playing as a goalscoring inverted winger isnt neccesarily the best use of his talents. If youve actually been watching him in pre season and dont think he's been good on the right then i cant help you.

The drop in quality after Rashford and Sancho is too much. And this is also in hope Rashford carries his preseason form to the league. We definitely need a winger, ideally a right winger since Sancho, Martial, Rashford can all play on the left

Still think it's vital to get a left footed right winger in. Doesn't have to be a key starter, but someone to provide competition and rotate with Sancho and Rashford. As of now, those 2 are instant starters but a huge drop off if 1 is out. Get a left footed RW in and we can do different combinations depending on who is fit or in form, as Sancho can go on either wing. Elanga to be the 4th winger, he shouldn't be the first sub or the rotation option.

Yup 100% this. I think Eriksen / Rashford can fill in at RW but just Rashford, Sancho, Eriksen, Bruno for 3 positions is just woefully little depth.

I've wanted a RW for about 5 years but if the choice is Antony for £60m or no one, I'd much rather sign no one and play Sanchos and Rashford there. Both have shown they can play there - Sancho in particular had a stormer against Bayern in the Bundesliga playing there. He's more comfortable going outside on to his right than he is going outside onto his left on the LW in my opinion.

If we could put that £60m towards FDJ or a DM I think that does much more for our team.

Yeah. Last thing we want to happen is for us to overplay some of these guys and bring injuries on them like what happened with Rashford in the past

We have a RW in Sancho. I remember the saga quite well. We spent a massive sum for him and some of us rate him very highly.

Esp. given the focus on workrate from forwards and pressing high. My personal assumption is that we won't sign a winger and go in looking like this.

-------------------------- Ronaldo / Martial ---------------------------------
Rashford / Elanga ---- Bruno / Eriksen --- Sancho / Eriksen / Amad?
-------------- Fred / McT ----- Frenkie / Eriksen ------------------------

We'd have to rely quite a bit on Elanga and potentially one of Amad / Pellistri.

I thought Garnacho would've been a squad option but hasn't seen many (any?) tour minutes. Surprised.

Rashford is also injury prone. We definitely need to sign a RW.

As a move for a RW died down now? Since eriksen and martinez signings looks like we’re all in on de Jong now.

Same I don't see a 60m player in him. I was OK with getting him when I thought it would be for less than 40m.

With Ronaldo stinking up the place I think we will need to add an attacker to the squad as well.

I think we badly need a winger, but for 60M you'd expect a winger who can really put up great numbers and 'm not sure Antony is physical or strong enough to do that, though he is young enough to bulk up a bit.

If we had a Van Nistelrooy or Lewandowski it would make more sense. Antony would balance the team well and give us width, but he isn't a big goalscorer at all and Sancho I think is more of a Ribery than a Robben. We'd need a 9 who can profit off the space and score headers and dominate the box, and I have zero idea who that would be unless we buy Osimhen.

I'm with you that it's all about De Jong or if it can't be him, a quality #6. I'd be fine going cheaper at RW with a decent loan option like Sarabia or maybe getting Malcolm from Zenit on a snip. I always liked the way he set up fullbacks and was a threat to come short or run in behind.

Yup he had some good games with Argentina on the left too. I guess if he impresses in training he gets to compete against Elanga for the backup LW spot.

Agree 100%. We're woefully short there, and with the amount of games we will play + injuries and world cup, we will have to have someone really good enough to slot in without a massive drop in quality. I'm really not certain who but it will be essential. Need to sign a RW and D/CM - I think those two positions are imperative.

I'd be much more confident going into the new season with 3 good wingers and the 4th option being Elanga. As some have mentioned, we could also use Eriksen on the left in some games. But a RW is key. Hopefully we'd be able to get one for £40m or less. I envy Chelsea for signing Sterling for roughly £46m?

Sanche is a massively better lw, I think we can forget any chance of picking up a cf this year. OsiMehn is going to be 85-100m and he isn’t worth that

That's a very good point because CDM/DLP whatever you call it is still top priority

It's not Sancho that needs replacing though. It's Greenwood

Mason was being developed as a CF even while he was being played at RW. Whether he would have been a CF of United sufficient quality we'll never know, but we undeniably bought Sancho for the RW role. Sancho got pushed to the LW during the shitfest season that's mercifully behind us now and he can certainly do a job there, but he when he's up for it he's a force of nature at RW.

Sancho is far better off the left, he is more of a goal threat from the LW, from the right he is v good, but his stats even at BVB look better off the left

Well the problem is that there aren't anywhere near enough good forwards around. Nunez going for 100m just shows how fecked up the market is.

Yeah the problem is City and scousers have taken the two best options off the market

Sancho is definitely more of a goal scoring threat from the left, but overall he looks more effective from the right. It really comes down to what ETH wants from Sancho and although it's early days, if Rashford is back to his old self the left if his and Sancho will be on the right. Question is, who will be our CF?

When we signed him his outstanding characteristic was assists and key passes, not goals. If we try to use him like Rashford then he wont have the same effectiveness.

Dunno about this last season I thought he had better games on the right.

He's more of a creator on the right though. We have Rashford to be a goal threat on the left, and Rashford is a better goal threat than Sancho.

I would have no issues with us spending £60m on Antony. I honestly believe he'd be our most exciting winger. I think his numbers will improve but the most important thing he provides is a threat to the opposition and a function for the system which has enabled Ajax to score a lot of goals both domestically and in the Champions league. He's also programmed to help defensively and plays with a intensity that seems to come naturally to him. He's also physically strong for his size and I'd like to see a player with his high potential arrive at United.
