Ruud van Nistelrooy | Leaves United

For the best. This penchant for nostalgia has only ever caused us problems. Also you can’t be having someone under you who clearly wants the job.

Leaves with his rep improved and will surely get a decent job soon. He always has the chance in the future if he does well.

Even if the new guy does well, there's every chance he's here for 5/6 years maximum before moving on. In those rare situations where someone leaves on good terms, there will be always be an opportunity for him to come back at some point.

I'd like to see Ruud maybe take on a decent level team in Spain/Italy. He needs to put his own identity on a club for a bit.

Loved his send off after the game yesterday. Legend

Disgraceful decision and entirely predictable. Keeping him hanging on is despicable. We treated De Gea abysmally and these tight fisted skinflints are producing more of the same to a club legend.

Makes sense really, but a shame. Did a top job in the short while he was here, earned a lot of respect for that I hope. Hopefully we see him back one day, in the meantime if he finds a good job elsewhere good luck to him, the stint here can't have hurt in that regard at all.

Thank you RvN!

Hopefully we see him back in some capacity.

Sad but understandable. Hope he goes and tries his hand at being a manager again as he seems well cut for it.

Correct decision. Grateful for him steadying the ship with class and dignity, hope he goes onto become as good a manager as he was a player.

I thought it wouldn’t have done any harm to announce it before yesterday’s game, although I can see why they waited to announce it. He had a send off but it would have been nicer to know beforehand.

Probably the right decision if you take away the nostalgia. Just a shame for him as I’m sure he was looking forward to being back at the club for longer than this.

I imagine he's known for quite a while the announcement was just held until RvN's last game yesterday and Amorim's last game with Sporting.

He's definitely done a great job over his four games and smoothed the way for Amorim admirably, he's been very classy throughout.

Somebody leaves the club with their head held high for the first time in a long time Ruud.

I hope he gets a really good job somewhere

It was Amorim’s decision. Weirdo.

As much as I would’ve loved him to stay and the fact he did a great job as interim, a lot of the reasoning is from a nostalgic point of view.

Best for both parties in my opinion, he’s good enough to be head coach and deserves a bigger role after his showing. Wish him all the best!

Right decision

I'm sure Ruud would have had some warning

It would be different if he was just a a coach and wanted to remain a coach, but he's stated very clearly he wants to be a Manager so best to part ways now

Weird reaction to Amorim getting to pick his own staff.

Who has kept him hanging on? Amorim said he will make the decision when he comes to England as he was concentrating on Sporting up to last night

Should have been made officially clear when the Amorim appointment was made and Ruud made it clear he didn't know where he stood in repeated interviews. The fans themselves deserved clarity. He had been the height of professionalism throughout all this and will not doubt have his contract paid off but that's not the point. He deserved to stay.

Thank you so much Ruud. You have done so much for this club. Best wishes whatever you decide to do.

Hard not to feel for him a bit. He was brought onboard for a project that blew up before it ever really got going. He should probably have asked for more assurances before taking the gig really.

And you can argue he shouldn't have been put in this position in the first place as Ten Hag should have gone in the summer.

So dramatic.

We waited for our new head coach to actually start his job before HE made a decision on who he retains as coaches.

I'm just pissed off that another club legend has been treated so badly.

Entirely logical decision. Let Ruben come in with his own team and do things his way.

Ruud likely had some discussion over it in advance and knew the scenario, and also he likely didn’t want to be a hanger on in the new team who all worked together previously.

He can leave with his head held high, did exactly what was needed with his caretaker stint.

Hope he moves into a job he wants and is a success. Classy fella, lot of respect for him.
