Third time lucky? Two Dutchies have failed but I feel based on the third time lucky law of the Universe...that Ruud will be a guaranteed success at United as a manager. Reckon we could do worse than starting him up front and all. Actually, there's no way our forwards are better than the Dutchman. So yeah Ruud Van for player manager.

Ratcliffe...make it happen.

Please don't do an Ole in March 2019 INEOS if you actually decide to put him in interim charge

Let's do it.

Give it to Ruud ….interim

Fan favourite. Impossible he could do worse.

This is a great idea. We've literally never tried giving a fan favorite former striker the manager job before. I can't think of a single thing that could possibly go wrong in this scenario.

Interim, not interim until full manager.

How did PSV play under him? Did he prove to be a potentially exciting coach or not?

So he is the coach we have brought in to work on the attacking side of our game and improving our finishing??...and we are happy with him taking over

He did manage PSV before coming to United, and it wasn’t just attack.

Ruud is part of the coaching staff who together decide the strategy. Having him instead of ETH won't change anything.

What followed there was 2 seasons well inside top 4, with an attacking mindset and a decent amount of goals scored.
I`d happily take that if offered.

PSV got 81 points in the league - 2 behind ETH's Ajax - in 2021/22 under Roger Schmidt. He then left to manage Benfica (and won the league there) and PSV appointed Ruud as first team manager. The league winners Ajax meanwhile lost their manager (gone to Man Utd), one of their starting centre halves (Lisandro Martinez, gone to Man Utd), their starting right back (Mazraoui, gone to Bayern), their starting left back (Daley Blind, gone to Bayern), one of their starting midfielders (Gravenberch, gone to Bayern) and their starting #9 (Haller, gone to Dortmund). You would think this would be a great opportunity to win the league for Ruud. But PSV finished the league on 75 points - 6 ahead of Ajax in 3rd, but 7 behind Arne Slot's Feyenoord - but won the Cup and were the top scorers in the league. He then left, and PSV appointed Peter Bosz for 2023/24. PSV finished the league with 91 points - 7 ahead of Slot and Feyenoord, and 3 more than Ajax's best of 88 points under Erik Ten Hag - and lost 1 league game all season. Bosz and PSV have also started this season with 10 wins out of 10, with 35 scored and only 6 conceded.

So, unless PSV sold a bunch of important players right before Ruud and then signed a bunch of great players right after he left (they might have, I don't know), I'd say, at least from a quick glance, his record looks quite underwhelming and the more established before and after him did much better.

I'd take Steve from accounting at this point. Or Marley the clubs dentist.
Marley won’t take it, he’s got a crippling phobia of grass

Steve wants it but has lost a lot of favour after accidentally setting Antony’s wages to £200k per week rather than £20

We know nothing about him as a coach and as much as I would like ten Hag to be finally sacked, we have no idea whether he would bea ny better.

That's what I hate about our club - we always seem to decide given memories and affection, and that's why we won't ever compete with Madrid and Barcelona. They didn't have problem with sacking Xavi (although his results weren't that bad) after just two seasons, Madrid have now started to question Ancelotti... we'd just be happy because Ruud seems to be a nice bloke, but we don't know anything about him being fit for that role.

Exactly what people said about McKenna and Carrick under Ole. Turned out they're both better coaches than Ole.

Real and Barca have high standards, winning the league and CL, our standards were just being part of the CL group stage for a couple of years now is the EL, next probably we will have the Conference as our primary goal.
We are already in this pit and going back to be a title challenging team will take such a long time as this damage cannot be undone in 1 or 2 years.

And I would give it to Ruud right now, I can't see how he can be any worse.

The idea he must be the best option because he happens to be right in front of us, is the 'straight dad visiting supermarket deciding what to get for dinner' approach to recruitment.

We were promised best in class not fecking frozen pizza.
But RvN is probably a viable caretaker, if we can't find a suitable coach at the moment.

He didn’t win the league with us as a player so this will be the fairytale story where he wins the league with us as manager. But I don’t believe in fairytale stories. What I think is more realistic is Real Madrid replacing Ancelotti with Xabi Alonso especially if they are left out of sight in La Liga, then we go for Ancelotti.

I see a lot of votes for Ancelotti, but he didn`t pull up any trees when at Everton right?

He won it with us in 02/03?

2002/03 RVN won the EPL and was top scorer, the level of fans not knowing the club’s history is everything that’s currently wrong with our club and between Ancelotti getting Sacked and a coach that knows the club who is the obvious choice, he’s won at the club, won in his first season as a manager and you can see his ideas are complete opposite to ETH, that’s why they are constantly arguing.

I have a feeling that RVN would recall Hugill, work more with Wheatley, Biancheri and Chido and tell them there is at least two glaring holes in this squad right now if one of them is brave enough to take the opportunity.

He coached Jarod Branthwaite into being a top CB, most elite CF’s know what it takes to stop an elite CF.

He might not work but i genuinely think it can’t get any worse right now?
