In an interview Botia said that his son told him that he was responsible for La Rochelle loss during the final. The son is probably right but that's brutal.

I don't know if some of you followed this drama a few years ago but when he was playing for Racing Goosen signed an extension but later decided that he wanted to leave for Montpellier(it was supposed to be a secret), Racing refused to let him go because he just agreed to stay and Goosen decided to "retire" from Rugby. in 2018 he eventually played for the Cheetahs and then signed for Montpellier. Now we are in 2021, Goosen has decided that he wants to go back to South Africa and signed for the Bulls but this week he allegedly decided that he wanted to stay at Montpellier...

'Two Cents Rugby' has named a Springbok team to play the British & Irish Lions.

He's also named a British & Irish Lions team to play the Boks.

Bok side picks itself really.
Be interesting to see if they stick with the 6+2 formula.

He must come home, we've got someone who belongs in a museum playing fly half for us.

South Africa's squad for the Lions series will be named later today. Duane Vermeulen will no doubt be named but he suffered an ankle injury the in the Bulls 31-27 win over the Stormers.

The feck is going on at Munster half the team getting burned in a fire pit, my guess is Snyman was bollixd drunk was falling in a grabbed the 3 others to try and balance himself

Wayne Barnes will referee the tour matches the Lions will play against the Bulls and Stormers, Jaco Peyper will referee South Africa 'A' vs the Lions as well as the Sharks match against the tourists while AJ Jacobs will have the whistle for the Golden Lions against the British and Irish Lions in Johannesburg.

Nic Berry from Australia will referee the first test of the Lions series, Ben O'Keeffe from NZ will take charge of the 2nd test and Mathieu Reynal will take charge of the 3rd test. Berry has been refereeing in a country where refs have not been enouraged to be strict on offside and tacklers not rolling away as has been the case just about everywhere else in the world.

Don't know if anyone watch the Quins/Bristol game but what a game it was.

After watching that if Marcus Smith and Dombrandt don't start for England now, I think I'll just give up on EJ altogether.

Absolutely with Smith. England are brimming with back row talent so you can maybe make an argument against Dombrandt, but Smith has to be blooded properly. I love the way he takes the ball to the line before either releasing or going for the gap. I just wonder whether he (and quins style in general) are too risk-taking for Eddie who prizes control over individual flashes of brilliance in his half-backs

RIghto folks, like it or not, as of August 1, two of the three main laws being trialled in Super Rugby AU over the last two years will be trialled globally over the next 12 months.

The goal line dropout law which sees the defending team perform a goal line dropout if an attacking player is held up over the goal line. The drop out must go at least 5m and can be taken from anywhere across the try line.

The 50-22 law will also be used globally over the next 12 months. To explain the 50-22 law - If the ball is kicked from your inside your 50m and goes out on the bounce inside the opponent's 22, the team that kicked the ball will get the lineout. The idea is to open the game up a bit by having the wingers drop back. It must also be said that the likes of Jordie Barrett, Francois Steyn and Elliot Daly will love this law and Rugby Australia who came up with law may have a different view in a year or so.

However, World Rugby were not as keen on the 20 minute red card replacement law. Their advisory board was in favour of the change but World Rugby felt 20 mminutes down to 14 is not enough of a deterrent against foul play. England and France were the two countries who were against the law ( I happen to agree with them by and large).

Rugby Australia though is hopeful of the 20 minute red card law being used in this year's Rugby Championship as they believe the law worked well during Super Rugby AU.

Interested to see how the kicking rules work out, and totally agree on the red card one. Although some red cards are harsh, and my teams have been on the end of a fair few dodgy ones this year, it should have as full a penalty as possible.

A Lions series related trivia question: In a few weeks, Francois Steyn could become the 2nd player to play in two British & Irish Lions series in the professional era. Who is the first?

I know that they have their own fanbase but not sure why they have kept the premiership final at the same time as the Euros game

The commentator on the coverage I'm watching metioned that the Lions have a chance to win a series in RSA for the first time in 24 years. He's seemingly unaware that the Lions have only played one series in South Africa since their series win there in 1997.

Lies, damned lies and statistics

Not good that the captain looks in a bad way after 7 minutes.

That was too easy. Aki and Henshaw have run some good lines which have led to tries.

The ball appeared to be beyond the halfway line when that kick off was taken.

Gatland will have to be happy with that first half. Holding Japanese ball carriers up has proven to be a fruitful tactic.

Would be better for the Lions if this Japanese team could challenge them more.
