Respectfully disagree, but fair enough mate. I thought he was brilliant to watch. Yes, final product is lacking, but power, pace, skill, strength, directness - he was fun to watch, even if it was against us.
What's the point if there's no end product, though?

Wolves are bringing in Renato Sanches - may mean that Neves is available. Neves is a good passer but immobile. Tchouameni is much more like Kante - limited passing but destroyer. The problem with Fred is that he is also a destroyer-type but is not able to get the ball forward.

Our crucial question is - do we need a Kante/Ndidi/Makelele-type (destroyer) type who might only be slightly better than Fred at getting the ball forward or a Carrick/Pjanic/Pirlo-type (control) Number 6 whose relative immobility may leave our defence exposed?

We don't need a destroyer. We need somebody who can pass progressively from the deep whilst being positionally disciplined and not error prone. Somebody who doesn't crumble under pressure and loose the ball too easily. I think Saul could've done a great job.

Not sure why I posted this in the Neves thread because he ain't it.

Just when I thought I was out, they suck me right back in!!

Is this Andreas Korssund chap reliable?

Carrick didn't leave the defense exposed, he just had a different way of defending then the all action terrier of Kante/ Fred.

I follow quite a lot of journalists and not one of them follows him so I'd say he probably isn't reliable at all (a lot of them tend to follow other respected journalists)

He's a Norwegian football expert. So if anyone is going to get the scoop on a Portuguese player moving between two English clubs, it's him.

not got the right mentality. shin pad tickling cry baby

Great breakdown. The answer imo is the later. We should be looking to be the dominant team and we will be for 90% of the games. Therefore we should be in control and therefore a passer is more important than a guy who's just and out and out destroyer but has limited passing. Ideally you'd want both but that player rarely exists

I wonder if Wolves would be interested in Lingard (loan or permanent move). Their team does look like it needs goals.

Of course, Jesse wanting to go there is another matter entirely.

But given we have CR7, Greenwood, Cavani, Sancho, Rashford, Martial all ahead of him for the front 3 positions and perhaps Pogba as well if he doesnt play in midfield, I would be wanting to leave to get some playing time if I were him.

Agreed, I want a tempo setter and have no idea if Neves can do that.

Just to complete the circle, he's Norwegian, Ole's Norwegian.Case closed, transfer most definately incoming.

How about some context? Saka is something special. Portugal's def mid options, not as.
I don’t think Saka is any more special than Sancho.

I don’t trust Southgate to make the right decisions so why should we blindly trust the Portuguese equivalent.

Pull the Neves signing off and it’s one hell of a transfer window, if we don’t it still is. It’s the only area left we need to bulk up on

Neves looked less slow than I remembered yesterday.

Renato seems like a good partner for him, they might be decent to watch with those 2 behind all their wingers.
So he is quicker than what you remember?

Great. So they're both special, unlike that Portuguese defensive midfield over the past couple of years.

Still no decent link!
I have always liked the player so I would welcome him.

Wonder what the United pecking order was for CM. Is this guy the DCM everybody thinks we need? What about the lad from Brighton?

Neves walks into our side, let’s not over complicate things with international bollocks.

A good midfield signing like Neves would probably result in quieter/safer windows in the coming years as main pillars would be theoretically fixed. I'm curious to see if the club will try to push this now or if they'll leave it to January/Later.

Would probably be a good signing. Allows Pogba to play higher because of less reliance on his long passes also with McTominay they should form a good partnership screening the defence.
