Roy Keane

If they are truly going to stick with Solskjear for long term can we atleast have Keane back as his assistant, he's got to be better than Carrick, an argument could be made he is even better than our actual manager but wont get into that.

He could be our German burgos (Atletico's assistant coach)

Damn when they asked him about the striker situation he looked scary. "Why you looking at me? Just buy Kane" OK Roy no problem mate.

Was he not being sarcastic? Cause Souness kept on talking shite about just signing a 30 goal striker.

In answer to the thread title...never.

Even if you think Keane’s ways are out of date and not applicable to today’s players, a team that saw things his way is a team that would be doing better than what we currently are.

I warmed to him more after Gary's assessment of him and that he isn't the man you see on the telly and is actually funny etc. He does actually make me laugh when he does post match analysis

So he is not dead to you?
No and apparently for no one in the stretford end either. Imagine that. I suppose its a reflection of how well the opinions of supporters that go to games is mirrored on the internet.

I said a couple of months back that I think Keane should be brought back as assistant manager simply because he wouldn’t put up with the players being such spoiled cnuts and would drive into them exactly what it should mean to them to play for United.

Yes he’s hardline and at times can be flat out crazy but sometimes you need that hardline approach to show that no one is bigger than the club and if you don’t perform you’re moved on regardless of who you think you are.

Better players than we have were moved on and Keane would install those principles that we’ve been sorely lacking for the last seven years, I’d still move Ole on as despite knowing what we need as far as players and characters go he’s not a good enough manager and I’d love to see Pochettino brought in with Keane as assistant.

There are some next-level silly things that have been said in this thread about how competitive football was then as opposed to what it is now.

Any watching the post match debate? Take everything back that I said about Roy Keane. He does chat shite sometimes but he absolutely adores United and he's proper going all out on sky with Carragher and Souness. Love it!

Love what? Carragher saying Man United should have the best manager in class and Keane disagreeing. Saying Moyes, LVG and Mourinho should be given more time just like Ole should.

He was about 1 comment away from chinning Carragher :lol::lol:

Yeah, lets sum up a 30 minute discussion into one point that Keane made.

Do some of you realize this is the squad Ole has to operate with?

Roy Keane & Jamie Carragher have HEATED argument over Ole Gunnar Solskjær!

Spot on. Souness got it right when he said Ole is getting as a good a tune as you can expect out of what he has.

Carragher is just loving the tables being turned for once, and was contradicting himself just to be a prick. One minute Ole hasn't got a good enough CV so he shouldn't be given time, the next minute Mourinho who has the best CV in the game shouldn't have had more time either.

Keane was raging cause he cares about the state of the club, and he must feel sick watching Liverpool win the title with United so far behind. He's right though about Guardiola, he scraped top 4 in his first season, won it the next two years yes, but where's his magic of improving players now? They're a mile of Liverpool too and that's down to bad recruitment.

I thought Carragher and Souness won most of the arguments really.

The only thing I did cringe at was Souness being so smug about how amazing Liverpool are off the pitch and Keane rightly called him out on it. That’s purely down to Klopp’s recruitment. The minute Klopp leaves that is likely to change. Let’s not forget where Liverpool were only 3 years ago, had to win their last game of the season to make top 4. Football can change very quickly.

Not really, Keane, Scholes, Neville, Evra, Rio and Giggs have all been pretty consistent with giving whoever's in charge more time. Yes they've been critical of how managers have managed the team or gone about doing certain things but they've never said anyone should be sacked or isn't good enough. It tends to be the scouse lot who keep insisting the coaches aren't good enough but what would they know? 30 years without a title says about as much as you need to know.

Keane was quite vocal about Mourinho. I can remember the game against City at Old Trafford where he ripped into every single player at United, especially Darmian. The likes of Keane and Scholes have toned down their criticism of the club since Ole took over.

Giving a manager more time isn’t the answer, giving the right manager more time is.

At the end of the day they're passionate about United because they're still fans of the club, they just get to voice their concerns to a world wide audience. To play devils advocate, if we'd have given Moyes, LVG and Mourinho complete free rein, enough time to gut the squads and given them the players they wanted, they would have probably had some success and maybe won a title. The issue is that their vision for the club didn't align with what the board's vision for the club was.

Part of our issue is that we've swapped managerial styles with every appointment, meaning the last bunch of players we signed no longer fit with the managers plans.

Solskjaer has a clear vision for the club and should be given the time and backing to implement his vision. If we're no better off in 3 seasons then the issue lies with the manager and coaching staff at that point.

This is why I always look forward to Keano in the studio because you just know there will be fireworks and box office viewing.

Have to say really what was Roy talking about. He has been super critical of everything UTD and tonight just poorly defended his argument. Was strange for me. Even Souness went quiet.

I love Keano and I normally agree with most of what he says, but his defense of Ole is biased as fook. And giving Moyes more time is just crazy talk. But I do love him.

Good post , you disagree with him which is perfectly understandable but he is not dead to you or a moron etc etc. That is how a reasonable person should think.

Can't understand a lot of posters on here who lose their minds and start throwing tantrums and then hurl personal insults whenever people like Keane , Scholes , Neville etc etc say something they don't agree with or are negative towards the state of the club now.

Nonsense , you can see he desperately wants Utd to get back to the top and really believes changing managers again will just take us back a step again.

You can certainly argue that he is wrong in that belief , but don't think his motives can be questioned.

It is a sad day when legends of the club can’t even agree to what needs to be done at Utd.

Im just going to say it that besides the last five minutes of todays game and maybe another five minutes throughout the game we were rightly bossed on the pitch. Liverpool are miles ahead of us and their players give 100% every game. We missed a couple great chances but Liverpool missed 2 if not 3x of that. If they were a bit more clinical, this game would have been done and dusted by half

I personally like Keane alot. He at least has some fire in him. It must piss him right off to see the state of the club and the players in the dressing room

Keane's right, as is Carragher.

In terms of Jamie, fact is you would have to question why we gave a manager with Ole's CV the initial chance to be the manager. We are in a spot where we cannot judge him based on the current team he has and the lack of proper funding he has received in relation to the club's expectations and the amount of positions that need to be filled. With a more experienced manager, you could go off their past to suggest that they have a blueprint of how to take the team forward. With Ole, alot of us are going off of hope and snippets of what he and the team have shown and told us about what they want to be. In reality, it would not be smart to do this as experience can be the best judge of talent. But considering where we currently are, I feel that we need a manager who has the passion and understanding of the club to take us back to where we need to be.

In terms of Keane, Ole has only had a year with this group, and for the most part he has shown his revolutionary ideas by chopping a lot of the fat from the squad. He has also bought players that have suited the model that the club wants to be again. His signings have been sharp and considered. He has also had to deal with a lot of injuries and confusion off the pitch of incidents that occured prior to his arrival and needs a few more windows to put a decent squad in place. On paper, utd look nowhere near the top. But this can change with a few signings and development of players which ole has been more willing to do than other short term success driven managers. With him, it is clear that the club's interest come first and he is simply doing his duty to the club rather than building a career for himself. We need that selflessness now more than ever.

It's because they're modern, internet, have a tantrum football fans. Not supporters. Everything is black or white. Agree or despise. Love or hate. Right or wrong. These current fans don't do opinions properly (ie - you have yours and I'll have mine). If you disagree with them, then they see you as the enemy. fecking idiots ruined football.

I respect Keane's passion but his argument that Van Gaal and Moyes should have been given more time is nonsense. We were in free fall under both managers. Moyes hailed Januzaj as the new Cruyff while ditching Zaha to the scrap heap. He tried to blame the club for poor recruitment yet botched the Tiago deal and signed Fellaini. Van Gaal was decent 80 years ago for 1 season and clearly had no idea what he was doing. The longer they stayed, the more damage would have been done.
When Fergie was retiring, The Glazers were releasing headlines to the media thst we could easily cope financially with a year or two out of the CL once Fergie quits. And that was the attitude at the time. 'We have so much more cash than everyone else, that we can afford a bad managerial appointment after Fergie if it happens that way'
Fenway Sports are a different gravy. A track record of turning underachieving teams into winners, by simply hiring the best of the best to run their clubs. They don't screw around when it comes to firing an underachiever, and have set up the best recruitment team around.

In saying that, I think Ole inherited a team that was on a par with Burnley, yet had the same salaries as Madrid. So I think he has taken us in the right direction, despite possibly being out of his depth. There's absolutely no doubt that Ole would be doing a lot better with 4 realisticish big signings we need - Grealish, Osimhen, Raul Jiminez and Kalvin Phillips, while flogging the last of the trash Pogba, Lingard etc He deserves until Christmas 2020 to show if he's up to it or not.

Completely disagree with Keane. The difference with Pep was that he was laying strong foundations within the team which bore fruit in the following year, and got champions League footy to boot. Same with Klopp. Ole is doing no such thing. I mean going by that logic you can never sack any manager because they may turn out to be SAF/Klopp/Pep. You can have to focus on the progress made, which isn't nearly enough.
