Roy Keane the pundit

Keane could have obviously phrased things a bit better (I know, never gonna happen:D), but I get what he's trying to say and Jose really needs to watch what he says. Technically, Jose is right about the scheduling, however nothing he says will change any bias from the FA or whomever, so he'd be better off having a gripe, if he must, in private but just keep it out of the public arena. It didn't come across well, almost like he was making excuses, even though his frustration is perfectly understandable. It's best for him to say it's not easy, but we have to get on with it or words to that effect..
This.

There was nothing wrong with he said. Some funny responses in this thread. Like the one just above me ^

It's classic management deflection tactics being used by Jose. Blame everything apart from tactics to take pressure of the team.Roy knows that and is just calling him out on it. Fergie did it all the time, create the siege mentality, and if it ultimately works for us than happy days. Some of Jose's deflection tactics are a bit ridiculous though. Saying Pogba was the best player on the pitch v Chelsea was a bit OTT, he was arguably the worst player on the pitch, but I understand why he did it. Both guys just doing their jobs.It is obvious Roy dislikes Jose, but that will be a spill over from the time when Jose was managing Chelsea, and they clashed when he was at Villa also.

I agree with you mate. He could have phrased things differently but it still should not diminish what he's trying to say. I wouldn't want to be in a room with him but he does a lot of sense.

It's funny how if he was ripping into a rival manager he will be getting applauded for being blunt but the moment it's against United, there is a big issue. Same thing when Parker had a few words to say about Rooney, to date he is yet to be proved wrong. But no if it's United, it's bitterness and jealousy. We aren't that precious.

Keane is a parody of himself now, like the Barcelona Vs PSG he gets asked about their selfie in the dressing room and of course Roy lights up and goes "No wouldn't have that, I don't agree". ITV know what they are getting, they've bought the grumpy bitter gold package.

Some of you actually think we staged one of our players eating a banana? thats proper fecking mental

Hes absolutely spot on. If the team were top of the league, he wouldnt care an ounce. He did the same spiel at Chelsea

Roy walked out of a world cup and became a traiter to his country because he wasn't happy with the training preperation.
So... Yeah.
Thanks Roy.

Slightly depressing that unless you're into selfies and complying with the general concensus you're deemed miserable. It doesn't say much for the intelligence of others.

To me Keane seems like the kind of bloke you'd like to know. Honest, forthright, dry sense of humour. Watch the Q&A he did recently, read his books, then watch a few non footballing interviews (like the stuff he does with Guide Dogs). He's infinitely more interesting than the perma smiling, bland, self worshiping characters on BT Sport, Sky etc.

To be fair, it is a tad stupid to refuse selfies with fans but be okay with it if you can find a third person to take the picture of you two.

He dislikes Mourinho (as Keane himself has admitted a number of times recently) and can't or wont be objective about him; therefore, any 'points' he might have about JM are undermined from the very start.
This.

Sometimes Keane's on the mark, other times he's just being a contrarian or even a wind up. In this case, he blatantly doesn't like Mourinho so it's obvious what he's going to do.

Do you guys think Keane ever wishes he could drop his 'ultimate hard man' schtick and try to act like a normal human being again?

He's the epitome of the 'I say what I like and I like what I say' hypocrite. If he had such incredibly high standards, he wouldn't be taking gob-for-hire money from The Keith Lemon Network.

To be fair that's the 'You can't say anything bad about anybody unless you yourself live a perfectly pure existence.' If that were the case nobody could offer an opinion about anything.

I mean what's working for ITV got to do with anything?

He is just one of those contrarian whiners who finds something to dislike in everything. He is also completely unbalanced when it comes to his enthusiasm levels when praising someone vs criticising someone. Goes over the top in his criticism and restrains himself if, god forbid, he finds himself having to praise someone.

Like Chris Sutton and Paul Merson, they add nothing to the discussion and their role is to purely churn out ridiculous soundbites and quotes that get shares, views and clicks entirely due to their outlandishness.

I'd take a Roy Keane as a pundit any day than an ex-footballer still mates with the guys he's commenting on or supposed to be objective about.....Step forward Neville, Carragher, Henry, Shearer, etc

A lot of snowflakes on here who seem to fall apart because they don't like to hear the truth.

Completely agree. How have folk become so overly sensitive. Appearing to be pleasant is now more important than giving a frank and truthful answer.

It is. Come on don't make a story out of someone getting a banana...
I'm not, I'm just not going to pretend like there aren't other possibilities given that it's José. I'm calm after yesterday and it just makes me laugh right now as it would if it was by another manager.

Why should people care what pundits say? They're like the panellists on Loose Women: no-one is queuing up to employ them (except as talking heads), and there's a reason for that...
I love the analogy; very apt.

I loved him as our captain and midfield general.

But Roy Keane the person is a bitter, miserable guy and I am glad he's not on Sky or BT Sports so I don't have to put up with his petulant hard man act every time we play.

Anyone else fed up with him or does everyone here adore Roy?
Not remotely fed up with him. Still adore him ... and think he is right. We haven't played an inordinate amount of games, the way Mourinho has been portraying. If some of the players are feeling the strain, its also cause he rotates very less. Also the "we'll probably lose on Sunday" was silly beyond belief. If this was Moyes making such a ridiculuos comment, he would rightly have been derided.

Ex player kicked out of the club for whinging, whinges about whinging.

"Why do we have to listen to that garbage?" Err because you accepted the offer of money to go and sit in a studio and listen to it, Roy.

Love him, could listen to him talk forever, but take his comments with a pinch of salt. I just hope he's ready to hear some home truths about his own managerial career from Jose...

Well one has a track history of winning trophies and the other one had a few mediocre spells with Championship clubs. I think that says it all.

Keane has said Mourinho is a great manager. He just doesn't like him. Which I'd suggest is an opinion plenty on here held about 12 months ago.

Keane doesn't like anyone except Roy Keane.

He's a self important bellend these days. It's a shame because I loved him as a player.

Given he's a fairly private bloke I reckon you know the square root of feck all about him.

I'm guessing his wife, children, family, the people he speaks favourably about within the Irish set up and ITV are liked by him.

I am guessing you know the square root of feck all about him too. Unless you are actually him, then it that case - Hi Roy.

You're correct I don't. That why I'm discussing his comments on TV rather than calling him a "self important bellend who doesn't like anyone."

This thread is called Roy Keane the Pundit. Not "Give us a sweeping opinion of Keane the man based on zero knowledge of his personal life . Don't hold back."

Save this crap for Facebook.

Keane in massively over the top comments about United shocker

The classic bitter ex sportsman who never finds anything good enough.

You can imagine his fury, these guys are paid 200k a week, and i'm not even on that a year these days. Grrr

Don't worry Dobbs I am pretty sure Roy doesn't give two fecks what some random on the internet thinks about him.

My opinion of him is fair going by how he behaves when on camera. Same goes for Phil Thompson and Eamon Dunphy - they don't exactly have a lot of fans but I bet no one here knows them two on a personal level either.

Forgot to add that I thought him saying he's sick of Jose or words to that effect was really shite. Why say something like that? He turned it personal. It sort of devalued the general point he was trying to make I guess.

Mourinho should just keep things low key in these interviews, just to spare us this kind of attention which we don't need.

I'm worried about you Peanut. You've fallen into the trap of thinking it's OK to say whatever you like because you're on the Internet. Don't join in with the sanctimonious masses on social media, it's not a good look.
